Subject: How do I know if Poser cloths, props, scenery works for DAZ?

alfhak712 ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 1:44 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 12:49 PM

In redme files for diferent products on the MarketPlace say that the item is working for Poser 5 or above some products say it works for Poser and DAZ. Some say only working for Poser 6 etc! How do I know if I can use it in DAZ Studio if it does not mention it work for DAZ! I know some Poser item works for DAZ and some not!

Here is one product named "Flapper Dancer"

System Requirements:

PC and Mac compatible
Poser 6 and above

Needed Files:

Victoria 4 and/or Aiko 4 and/or The Girl 4

but it does not say if it work for DAZ or not!

Halo alfhak712 .

Most of the models will work in DAZ Studio.

Only poser dynamic clothing wil not work, as desired.

Different is with textures, as some might use advanced shaders, which DAZ Studio cannot read.

As for de dress you talk about, I suggest sitemail de vendor : http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/search_member_adv.php

Hope it will help :)

If it does not explicity state it supports DAZ Studio, you are taking your chances on how much may or may not work. It could work fine, it could need textures adjusted some, or it could be totally useless. There is no way to know other then to contact the artist themselves and ask. Also, if it does not say it supports DAZ Studio, you will have problems returning it, as in.. you might not be able to.

I was buying a number of items and missed that one of them did not mention DAZ Studio support. I immediately test products after getting them, and found this one fell into the 'useless' category. I contacted The store and asked for a refund. I was given it with the admonisment that I should not expect that in the future.

Statements like 'most will work' are dangerous as the person making them are not offering to refund your money if they don't.

Thanks for all comments and reply!

I bought one car some time ago that say only Poser but thought it was going to work

for DAZ! I could install it but could not edit or change things on the car!

I think the best thing would be to sitemail the vendor for products and ask if it does not

say it works for DAZ!

There is a simple solution. If it doesn't say that it works with DAZ Studio, assume it does not. If its a large ticket item, Id ask the vendor or just skip it. These models are just too complex to make assumptions - you are right to be cautious.

The store's position is entirely reasonable though. After you have downloaded the product, there is no way to ensure that you are deleting it after you get the refund. All brokerages and vendors rely on the honesty of their customers - but unfortunately there are some bad apples who exploit that. Ive had models that were clearly purchased through brokerages that were then posted to various Poser focused warez sites, for example.

There are a number of older models from my group that do not say that they work with DAZ Studio. That is because they were never tested and never will be tested. However our "R2" generation models are all tested with DAZ Studio (and we always list the version number as well) and the READ MEs all cover them.  If we find some incompatibility later, we also fix those problems - if we previous stated there would be compatibility.

Best regards,

chikako

Well their position is frankly why I do most of my purchases at another store that has a policy that is more in lne with what I believe is reasonable, to the tune of over many 100x the purchases there vs here (no exageration.)

There is not one poser product that hasn't worked in DazStudio as far as the geometry and morphs go from the main 3 stores. If the materials are a problem for that particular product, I have a whole bunch of dedicated DS shaders that I've bought that quickly re-texture the item. And we're good to go.

That is an incorrect statement.

bbost I know, the model and morph wise everything should work, but it is not said it will. Always is best to make sure. if the program is not mentioned, and it is not a dynamic cloth/hair better to ask vendor.

Point taken, I should have prefaced my comments with the couple extra words, "Of the products i've bought that stated they weren't tested in DAZ Studio, or only tested in Poser" . That said, a buyer should ask questions prior to purchase, but generally speaking if a product is made to conform to V4, A4, Girl 4, it's going to work in DAZ Studio with a small amount of material fiddling. The caveat though is I've probably been doing this for a while so tinkering doesn't phase me, other might find it more of a challenge. No one said art is easy.
