Subject: Is this a Poser Unimesh bug?

Choosing skinning method: Poser Unimesh, and then exporting the geometry as an OBJ file while in that mode causes the mesh to split into its various body parts.

Is this a bug or simply a limitation of the Unimesh technology?

Tried that...doesn't work.

Oh, that's V3 by the way, but it happens with every figure I've tried so far.

Doesn't work to try to weld the mesh on import either. Doesn't work to weld the mesh in UVMapper, as well.

well depending what you are doing you might do better just grabbing from the Geometries folder

Well, I use Dimension3D's "FigureToProp" Python script a lot, and it's directly affected by this problem.

BTW: For you Vue users, I just checked and figures with unimesh on won't load into Vue properly. Need to get a new SDK from SmithMicro to E-On.

I would not imagin that a sub-d mesh would work outside of poser...sounds too good to be true that you'd be able to sub-divide the mesh in poser then export it to another app.

It shouldn't...but neither should it break the original mesh on export.

I had/have a problem that may be related in that, when I first got Poser 2014 I did a portrait render in Luxrender, via reality 3, using the Unimesh method the join at the neck is visable.  Going back to traditional skinning cleared the problem.   I have not used the combination since but I suspect from what is seen here is that it would be the same at all the joints.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I've also found that you want to disable Poser unimesh on any figures you are using in the Fitting Room, as the resulting mesh is likely to have breaks after you save the cr2 if you don't.

try exporting without groups in export settings.

export the figure with all export settings unchecked, reimport with just weld identical vertices. the figure is now one piece (a prop) with all material regions intact and no splits at the groups. works with Gen3, Gen4, whatever.

edit_ haven't used the latest version of Poser so maybe the is a curve-ball that I'm unfamiliar with, usually disabling groups on export and then welding does the trick though.

Just tried it (V4 this time)...no luck! Nothing so far fixes this.

What boxes did you have ticked when exporting?  Even you tick weld, if you also tick some of the other boxes, that will "re-break" the body parts.

Poser 12, in feet.

OSes:  Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64

Tried all different combinations...no change. Again, Poser is doing something that is creating "uneaqual vertices", preventing the mesh from being welded after export.

Try exporting with EVERYTHING unchecked and see what happens. I did a test awhile back where someone was complaining about unwelded meshes. I found that if the check box to include group names was checked, the mesh exported unwelded, but if unchecked, it exported as a single mesh. I checked by importing into Blender and Wings 3D.

Really? I tried obj export on a figure with all boxes unchecked and it came out split - in fact I tried every possible combination.

The only way I found to get the mesh out in one piece was using collada.

Anyone else having a problem with material zones after converting to unimesh and SubD? I have a figure with nipples on the shoulders and teeth on the abdomen. Strange daze indeed.  :)

Y'all have a great day.
