Subject: Downloading Rederosity files to DAZ|Studio in Windows

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Fri, 05 July 2013 at 9:58 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 5:08 PM

Hello, i know this may have been put out before or in another format but how do you go about putting RENDEROSITY files into DAZ|Studio so i can use the programs/files????

I tried various things but nothing seems to work, about at my wits end trying to figure out what is wrong, any help would be gratefull. Thank You

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Fri, 05 July 2013 at 10:16 PM

On another note, if the file dos not have the specified file (ie. Runtime), if the file des not have that folder can the "program" still work in DAZ 3D Studio, if so how does one go about getting it "installed", any help would be benificial, Thank You

animajikgraphics ( ) posted Fri, 05 July 2013 at 10:25 PM

Daz Studio can read the files if you place them in the Runtime folder struction (same as Poser)  All zip files on Renderosity are archived in the correct folder structure.

If it's not a DS specific file, you can import it into DS (file->import)

For character, import the .cr2 file

For props, import the .pp2 file

If everything was placed correctly in the Runtime, DS should be able to load those files and texture correctly.

well i tried to follow one of the "instalation" guides and i still am getting no where, though i can see some of the files i placed i still can't access them to work on them, getting to be very upsetting, right now i am still new to this sort of thing, and i would like to make something for a firend of mine. But as stated, i am not sure what i am doing wrong still, getting upset cause i can't figure it out.

ldgilman ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 1:10 AM

I found it much easier to unzip the files, then move the file contents to the various folders in the Runtime. Yes it does take more time, but for me, in the long run I had a lot more success.

Also, be sure the files you want to use in DAZ are DAZ compatible. I found out the hard way that not all Poser files will work with DAZ. If you are not sure, or the file description, or the Readme inside the file does not say DAZ compatible, it may not be.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 7:22 AM

I have checked that the files i purchase are and can be used by DAZ 3D Studio. The files in the Readme file state the you need DAZ Studio 3.1 or higher, i am using DAZ 3D Studio 4.6, the files should work with the version i have. i check and double check before i buy anything, that it would be compatable with what i have, i am just having problems getting the files into the right place or at least working it so i can use the product i ordered.

jestmart ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 7:49 AM

There are a number of vendors here that still include a "Content" or "My Library" folder in their zips.  These are not now, nor have they ever been, required folders for Studio.  If the zip has one of these folders exact the folders inside them.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 8:01 AM

One more thing, i keep seeing that the files should be put in a "Content" folder, i do not see anything like that when i am looking to place these files, i see the "My Library" and the "DAZ 3D Library" no content folder or anything that is listed in the README file. Am i missing something or am i just not looking in the right place?

jestmart ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 8:41 AM

Most of the time when people speak of a content folder they are using the word in a general way, as in a folder that contains Studio/Poser content.  The same can be said of the words library or runtime.  If they actually mean folders named "Content", "Library", or "Runtime" they should put them in quotes as I did or at the very least capitalize them.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 9:22 AM

I see what you all mean, i still am having trouble trying to put these files into the right location so they work, as stated earlier, all the ones i have purchased are able to run in DAZ Studio programs.

if it helps to figure out, i have the following Items; DAZ Studio 4.6, Victoria 4.2 Starter Bundle, Young Teens 5 Julie, Andrea for Genesis Young Teen Julie, Orianne Hair.

So far all those work cause they came from DAZ

I am trying to get the following files to work with DAZ;

Lucy Zepp for V4, S4, Elite, MRL Tiffany, VYK_Dannika.

All of them state that they work with DAZ and i think i have what they need to work, since i looked in the Readme file and on the main web page, as far as i know i have all the requirements for the files, i just don't know how to get them to work.

animajikgraphics ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 10:53 AM

Extract the original zip file.

Your should see a folder named "Runtime" or somoe other name. If it's something else, then look in that folder and see if there is a "Runtime" flder in it.

Look at the structure of this "Runtime" folder and see what's in there.

Copy those files from this newly un-zipped archive folder to the "Runtime" folder on your hard drive or whereever you have your main "Runtime" folder located.  Note the sub-directories and place the contents from the new un-zipper "Runtime" into the same sub-directory names as your main one.

ie:  Runtime/Geometry/someobjfile.obj   -> go into your main "Runtime/Geometry/" sub-folder.

Etc...

Will give it a try, if things don't work then i am just gonna have to stick with DAZ files only, gonna be such a disappointment cause Rederosity has some very good files.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 2:28 PM

OK i unzipped everything and put things into their prospective folders and still the 3 files are not working, unless with all my putzing around has screwed something up someplace, things "should" work, but they do not.

animajikgraphics ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 2:50 PM · edited Sat, 06 July 2013 at 2:57 PM

I use stuff from renderosity and other sites all the time.  Even props and characters that are marked "Not tested in Daz Studio" and have had no issues other than re-texturing or applying shaders to make it look better or more to my liking.

How are you loading the files into Daz Studio?

Do you use the content browser or import them?

The Content Browswer is tricky if you don't have it set up right. Importing will by-pass this and allow you to load it directly in DS.

As a test: un-zip your zip to your desktop.  Open DS and try importing the files.

Navigate to your desktop and folder you just unzipped.  If you're loading a character, navigate down to Runtime/Library/name_char_or_whatever/character_name.cr2

if it's a prop do the same except go to Library/props/name_of_prop/prop_name.pp2

OK I have tried Importing the files but it don't work, i have tried to "look up" the folder through DAZ and i tried putting the files into the spots that i see there, they show up in the COntent Browser, but i am unable to use them, nothing shows up or is highlighted.

animajikgraphics ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 3:05 PM

When you say "Won't load", what exactly is happening?  You can find it?  It's "greyed-out"?  More info from you would help.

It is hard to describe what i have going on my computer right now, but as far as i can tell, i have done something that is conflicting with DAZ Studio. either i have done something or i have not done enough, the DAZ Studio 4.6 PRO does not tell you how to install new files. it does give a very basic instruction on how to install new files but no troubleshooting or other help.

also, it may be that i have downloaded the files wrong, since they get opened up with WinRAR, i do have 7Zip, that i have been using to open the files with, could this be one of my problems?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 3:42 PM

No, the locatuion of the files would be the problem. What are the folders in the zip, where are you putting them and where is your DAZ Studio and Poser Content directory?

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 3:55 PM

Well when i first saved them, i saved it to the Desktop and then tried working it from there. I even tried uninstalling DAZ and then reinstalling it, thinking it may solve the problem, no luck yet.

ldgilman ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 4:52 PM

This may be a crazy question, are you looking for the files in Content Library??

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 5:22 PM

OK, i uninstalled the DAZ Studio to get a fresh start, the only files i am having problems with are the Rederosity files, everything else is working fine.

For the Directory file i have 2 settings and mulitple areas that has the DAZ 3D Studio folders, but they area ll put there by the program when it installs.

I have folders in the Program Files and Program Files(x86). The MY DAZ 3D Library is in another folder in the Users.

The file path is as follows for the Library: Computer/ (C:)/Users/Public/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library

The file path for DAZ Studio is: Computer/ (C:)/ Program Files/ DAZ 3D

This folder has 2 files in it 1 Content Management Service and DAZStudio4

The second path is: Computer/ (C:)/ Program Files(x86)/ DAZ 3D

This folder has 6 files, DAZ3DIM1, DAZStudio4, docs, plugins, resources and scripts

not sure where or what folder to put the "problem" files into. i can try to do the install to the destop but not sure where to send them to

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 6:52 PM

Well, i must have done something right, i am seeing files from the 3 downloads, can't gett hem to work just yet but they are there in the Content Library

Getting closer to getting this thing resolved.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2013 at 10:55 PM

Well with a bit of fiddleing around and looking at what the folders are, i think i got the files to work, need one more program for the one but in all i say they work. Thanks for all the help.

sriesch ( ) posted Wed, 10 July 2013 at 4:27 PM

Although it appears you got everything working already, I want to add that some downloads (from various sites, including but not limited to Renderosity) are zipped into differring folder structures that may need to be rearranged before the products can be used.

Sometimes they unzip directly into a runtime folder, sometimes they create a subfolder within that folder and you have to move the contents up a level or two, and sometimes they won't even have a runtime folder structure (even though they may still require it) and you'll have to create those folders manually (or if you use a single runtime, move the files into the correct places within it.)  I have also seen a product with two zip files where one file unzipped one level deeper than the other file for the same product, so you had to unzip half the product, move it, then unzip the other half to get them together.

It may seem confusing at first, but once you do it a bit, you'll get the hang of it.  When I think something should have installed but it didn't, I might compare it to a known working product's runtime and then my incorrect unzip location jumps out and I can correct it.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Thu, 11 July 2013 at 7:35 AM

I understand, once you get things working you can look back and see what is wrong, i did download a file but it stillisn't working, says that there are missing files and i have no idea which ones i need or where to look for them.

The error message says: Cannotfind a file for "/Runtime/libraries/DAZ/Victoria3/Body/Deltas.PBMMuscular1.pz2".

it give several messages like that with a different thing behind the letters PBM, any help in directing me to the files i need either online or the files i have on my computer already, any help would be good.

The file i purchased was LK Zeila, everything is in the right place cause i can see it in my DAZ Studio, but can't get them working.

Paula Sanders ( ) posted Mon, 15 July 2013 at 9:26 PM

this is how I do it with all zip files. It doesn't matter what site they are from. I am on my iPad so I can't give screen captuUnzip right click on the zip file and unzip to the name of the file. You will see that option when you right click. You will now have a folder with the zip files name on it. Open my library folder. Copy the contents of the zip file into the my library folder. With generation 4or props it will probably be only runtimWhee sometimes you will be asked to merge the file. With genesis and some morphs , etc. you will have data, people, etc files. Just drag all of these to the library. If you are still struck, Wilmap has an instructional file on sharecg that explains how Yao open her zipped files which are consistent with others.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Mon, 15 July 2013 at 11:41 PM

Thanks, any new information i get will be put to good use, can you tell me some of the websites that may help me, cause i am still having a bit of trouble with a few files i have, even though i have them all in the right locations.

Otherwise I suggest followindado rums on daz on daz3d and here. If you read them regularly and bookmark posts that might help you in the future, you will find working a lot easier.

Quote - You need V3's morphs.

http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-3-0-head-body-morphs

OK i have that purchased and "installed" but i still can't get the one "figure" to work, not sure what to do anymore, starting to feel like i am just wasting my time with this, for awhile i thought that i was starting to get the hang of the program and roughly knew how things went and where they went in the Library. Now it is just plain getting to be to much, seems like 1 thing is needed to run something else that in turn is needed to run another program which in turn is needed for something else, it just goes on and on, very confusing, very frustrating, i even have that "latest" link that was posted here, but then again, i may just have something stuck in a wrong file.

tparo ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2013 at 6:38 AM

Could you be a bit more specific about exactly what you are trying to do, and what items you are trying to use, perhaps post links to the items you are having trouble with.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2013 at 7:32 AM

the item i was having trouble with was posted, one of the next posts had a link for a "solution", but i still can not get the one file to work.  it keeps asking for certain files, i thought that the link would sovle the problem. But if it makes people happy.......

"The file i purchased was LK Zeila, everything is in the right place cause i can see it in my DAZ Studio, but can't get them working.

The error message says: Cannotfind a file for "/Runtime/libraries/DAZ/Victoria3/Body/Deltas.PBMMuscular1.pz2".

The next post gave this "solution"

"You need V3's morphs.

http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-3-0-head-body-morphs"

I purchased the files in the link, i unzipped them and put them in the respective folders they needed to be in, i still can not gett he file LK Zeila to work, really getting to be upsetting, i have all these files and i only get a few to work right.

jestmart ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2013 at 9:00 AM

The products you listed at the begiing of the post are for Victoria 4.  The error message posted at the latter part of the post suggests the the product is for Victoria 3.  Do you have Victoria 3 or Victoria 4 or both?  V3 and V4 are not compatible figures I recommend sticking with Victoria 4 and getting a refund on the V3 morphs.

DrachenHaven ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2013 at 5:55 PM

i am new to this sort of thing, i do not have Victoria 3. not even sure if there is a site that would have it listed. BUT, if i must give everything i have on my computer, i will list all my stuff i have on DAZ3D/Renderosity.

Oskarsson's Wondergirl

PreTeen Starter Pack

Hr-098 (hair)

Zelia  V3

Living Doll for V4 - a merchant resource

Lucy Zepp for V4, S4, Elite

VYK_Dannika

RL Tiffany

MYoung Teens 5 Julie

DAZ Studio 4.6 Pro

3.1 Great Art Now - Posing And Morphing

Andrea for Genesis Young Teen Julie

Orianne Hair

Victoria 4.2 Starter Bundle

Victoria 3.0 Head & Body Morphs

Andromedas Legend for Genesis

This is all that i have on my computer for DAZ3D. When i place things, i put them into this directory:

/Computer/Dragon's Den (C:)/Users/Public/Public Documents/MY DAZ 3D Library/

then the respective folders from there, if there are any problems or if you see something wrong please let me know, i am still new yet, not as good as everybody else .

If you do not have Victoria 3, Zelia will not work

It flatout says it's for Victoria 3 on the product page

ldgilman ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2013 at 11:53 PM

@AlanaDale   There are a lot of us new-be's that when we first start don't know that there are no compatibilies between V3 and V4. "It flatout says it's for Victoria 3..." don't mean squat if your new and don't know.

I think a little patience here is needed. There is after all a steep leaning curve. With only 92 posts to your credit, you are not adding anything positive to Drachenhaven's situation.

AlanaDale ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 12:07 AM

I don't think its a matter of just being new.  There is a readme that explicitly says what is required.

Product Title: LK Zelia for V3

Author: Lene Kiilerich (lkiilerich)

Product Date: September 2006

Product Copyright: Lene Kiilerich (lkiilerich)

Needed Files List and System Required:

LK Zelia's Morphs requires Victoria 3.0 and her head and body morph packs from DAZ/ Poser 4 and up

I'm surprised this thread has gone on for so long for someone who is either unwilling or unable to understand basic information about the product.

That last post is a unfair and uncalled for, one person is abrupt with you and you forget about those trying to help.

Daz 3D have a 30 days return policy so anything you got from them thats no use and you bought within 30 days you can return.

I know I said stick with Victoria 4 but now that I have googled your purchase list I have changed mine mind.  Stick with Genesis, it is DAZ's most versatile figure ever.  Try getting a refund or store credit on the rest, the two hair's may be worth keeping as most hair products can be made to work with most figures.  Be aware that there is a new Genesis 2 Female figure that is not compatible with Genesis.

Hi DrachenHaven.  Your frustration is understandable. And true, we were also once at the very beggining, and apart of learning how the program works, needed to learn about the content.  Which can be pretty confusing at the beggining, not one përson has got something that looked like great outfit and than turned out to be a texture expansion, but once learned, makes it easier to enjoy and create.
