Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 5:13 am)
You first have to install the DSON importer into Poser's main directory:
http://www.daz3d.com/dson-importer-for-poser
Then the DSON companion files go into an additional "Genesis" runtime you have to link to Poser.
Then you can load Genesis figures into Poser.
BUT...Some things like the scaling are completely broken and the bends are also inferior compared to using Genesis in Studio.
If you do not have at least DS4 installed on your system, you much make sure the install DS4.x files is checked when you install the DSON importer.
This gives the module the DS4 files it needss to "translate" it into Poser speak.
If you have a version of DS4 installed, it doesn't matter. Also make sure the DSON importer is installing to the Python folder inside the Runtime folder which is in the main Poser app folder. This is where it looks for it by default.
Some users get decent results using DSOn and others get crappy results. I've always ended up with crappy results so I won't say mucy more....
Well bottom line:
It seems that after reading these posts about Freak 5 in Poser...there seems to be more negative reactions then positive...
I think that if i want to use Freak 5 to its full potential, and without glitches and errors...i might as well just install him into Studio, where it gives no problems and works the way he is supposed to work...after all he was designed for Daz anyway. The problem is that mostly i use Poser for my work instead of Daz Studio...so that is why i am a bit dissapointed to read that it will never work perfectly within Poser...
So at the end of the day...if i want to use any Genesis base figure...i will just use Studio.
Funny thing is...that no where the vendors and the creators of the Genesis platform figures make known all the issues that i read here in the posts...yes...they created the DSON importer to make it all work in Poser...but then why all the glitches and imperfections?...they never mention that you will be confronted with them...in my opinion they could at least have said that we must not expect any Genesis figure or its derivatives to work as good in Poser as it works in Studio. At least that way you would know before hand what to expect.
Welllll...
That'd be like listing everything you don't get included when you buy a TV, for example. I don't think DAZ ever claimed you'd have error free, fully functional Genesis features in Poser, same as your TV box doesn't say "Elephant not included". :)
As you said, the simple solution is to use Studio, which is what the Genesis figures were designed for. AFAIK, the DSON stuff is to give you some functionality in an app that isn't immediately compatible with the Gen figures.

Well... Sam.. Although I agree with some of what you say, it would be like selling an NTSC tv in Europe. Or a PAL TV in the US. Sure you get a TV, but hey.. you can't use it.. too bad...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Not quite. TVs - Here in the UK - say what system they use on the box.
