Here is a brain teaser that has been driving me crazy!!!

  • The image on the left was lifted from Poser preview pane, everything looks ok...

  • The image on the right was lifted post rendering, and as you can see, pantyhose is sticking out of the skirt and shoes!

Is there a way of showing the pantyhose in the preview pane so that I could adjust the skirt and shoes (prior to rendering)....

I guess one alternative might be to set the pantyhose texture less than 100% transparency, but I am guessing there must be a smarter way of acheving the same result...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

thank you all

I think the pantyhose are visible in preview but a displacement map is making them expand a little in the render. Make the dress and shoes a little bigger.

That would be my guess also.  Although, you do have pokethrough on the shoes in preview mode also.  The toes can be made invisible for those problems.

 2 things can do this:

One is a displacement map on the stockings.
Second is : Do you have Smooth polygons enabled in the figure parameters (can be set on each group) => Smooth Polygons "expands" a figure or group it is set on.

"Smooth polygons" => expands a figure at render time.
"SubD" => Shrinks a figure at render time.

Thank you all for your advice...

Just as an fyi, in the render setting, both "displacement map" and "smooth polygons" were not checked... Hence my confusion! I am also stuggling to find a way to make the pantyhose visible in preview pane... This should allow me see the areas that are poking through and make the necessary changes prior to rendering....

Further advice in making invisible items visible in the preview pane would be greatly appreciated..:c)

Also, what is "SubD".. and is there a thread that shows how to use different "smooth polygon" setting for each group... The only place I see this parameter is under "Poser Setting" for the entire scene...

Thnaks again for your support/advice...

From what I can see, there is poke through on the right breast of your figure as well, which would suggest that your figure morph isn't translating well to the dress. Ashley9803 is right. You need to make the shoes and dress a bit larger.

As far as making the panty hose appear in the preview pane, about all you can do there is mess with the settings in the material room. If you are familiar with the advanced tab, you could go in there and change either the transparancy or maybe the specular to something that will show in the preview pane.

Sub D is subdividing, something that is only available in the latest version of Poser. Poser 10 and Pro 2014 have it as an option.

Sorry, you can never see a displacement map in action in preview.
As Smooth Polygons, the effect of a displacement map is calculated at render time.
SubD is subdevision, only available in Poser10 and PP2014.

Ahaa, you say that displacement and Smooth polygons was checked OFF for the render.

So all you have to do is set them visible in preview, and you will be able to correct their position.

Select the stockings (you will have to check that group by group) and check their visibility in the properties palette.

If the stocking color is procedurally dependent then you will not see any results in preview.  Another words, if the shader nodes in the Material Room do not have any image map associated with it and the color is not derived from the diffuse_color chip, you will not see any changes in the preview window.

hborre,

You are absolutely correct on the fact that there is no image map associated with the pantyhose.... What is strange though, sometimes the transparency does show up when I apply the python script (for changing the PH color) that came with the product... I have tried to find the root cause of this anomolie and so far I have been unsuccessful!!

Do you think it might pay to play around the different node settings in the material room?

Thanks

Changing the Stocking display style to something like wireframe may help you see where it is poking through.  You should be able to find an whole chapter in the Reference Manual that explains the display controls in depth

PERFECT!!! The mistake I was making was changing the entire display to a set  style... by changing the elements of PH display to say Silhouette, I am now able to see the poke through!!

Big thanks to you all for being so helpful....... :c))))
