Woohoo -- Dawn passed my last test!  I took a cube and (very) quickly roughed out a tank shirt, then took it into Poser and conformed it in the setup room.

It conformed, just right!  I mean, my modeling was rough, but the garment moved with Dawn, just as it should.

I LOVE this figure!!!  :-)

(I didn't want to rhapsodize before I tried everything.)

I think it is a combination of the Leiko hair and the pose that does that.  I really like the Leiko hair, and this is probably part of the reason why.

I used the V4 version (not the Genesis) of the Leiko hair. It does not auto fit. It just loads into the scene. I then partented it to Dawns head and moved it to 0,0,0 and zeroed out all rotation. That was still not in the right place. I think I had to move it forward in Z in DAZ. I just positoned it manually.

I firsted tried to use the Genesis version of the Leiko hair, but it tried to autofit, which it could not, and then lost all the hair morphs. By using the V4 version, there was no attempt at auto fit, and after manually parenting it, I still had all the morphs.

I'm not sure you would describe this "naturally with Leiko hair."

Actually I did the morph clone Dawn to Genesis , but I got informed that making V4 or other shapes that help fiting clothing on dawn via auto fit need to be approved for sale by DAZ as it violate the Eula , the V4 and other shapes are copyrighted , I saw happy for 5 min , and can't share with you :(

For an extreme pose, that would not work...so, I looked into how to "create a clone", figuring if I had one, I could autofit.

Found this LINK in the forumarchive, and I got to work. 

As a result, it is possible to get a "decent" autofit of V4 clothes on Dawn in DS via autofit.  I loaded V4 and Dawn, and dialed in the closest possible match of V4 that I could, with Dawn's available settings.  Once done, I save this as a single morph, changed it to a Clone type and saved it off as a Clone morph asset.  (this is a one-time operation, easy to doco)
 
Now I load clothes for V4, and there is an autofit option for this clone from V4toDawn (that's what I named it).  This gets me about 75-80% of the way there...and the smoothing modifier finishes the job.  Morphs are still in the clothes (which I didn't expect), as an added benefit!
 
Just another reason that having a figure native to the application is a real benefit!

I did this quickly, and my feeling is that if someone takes their time to create a V4 morph for Dawn, it would vastly improve the autofit's first pass.  ("V4, A3, etc. Shapes" for Dawn would probably sell very well...hint, hint, content developers...but don't make it too expensive!)

Ok, mark, I just meant you didn't have to morph the face. :-)

Last night, sometime before 3:30, I played with Dawn's movement controls.  She moves very fluidly.  All those bones, I guess.  :-)

Really glad they gave us a version that works in two programs.  So now, it's time to put her to use.

To be honest, I can't even figure it out anymore....even from what I wrote.  Maybe someone else can figure it out this time.  I can't get a single morph made from the dials, and even if I go the export to OBJ route, I get the geom didn't match, even with Base and subdivision=0.  Not a big deal for me though.

Thank you, Richard.  I really loved the Basics 01 set and am looking forward to these.  You did a fantastic job and there are a lot of options.

What are d_f files?  Can they be deleted?  They are in the sharecg downloads.

Well, I took the low res version, did a bit of work on it, got a few sub divs in etc.

Saved, loaded into PP2014, Setup room, Dawn dev rig, done!!!

30 minutes in all as Dawn is not symmetical, and I had to push a few polys around.

But I do have a base mesh now that I can play with.

If you mean the d_b files, yep, you can delete those out, sorry they shouldn't have been left in.

Just use My Computer and brose to the folders.

The in the Search section, type in.

*.d

This will show all teh d_b files and you can delete them.

My mind is boggled.  Why "waste $45"?  Dawn is free. No need to buy anything just to "satisfy your curiosity."

I like her.  There are so many Dawn products I hardly know what to buy first.  Any suggestions for good skin textures, that include no-makeup options?

I fully plan to use Dawn a lot and buy a lot of things for her...but I only spent $20-something on her "stack."  I just didn't think I would use the contemporary clothing and hair in the stack.  Not my style. 

I am planning to go nuts buying Dawn stuff tonight, at the various stores.  That long wait for her debut gave me a lot of time to save up some mad money.  :-D

Is that really four complete outfits for $9.47?  Or do you need to have bought the V4 versions for it to work?

That price seems crazy.

It's for real, but you'd better grab it within 40 hours if you want the discount. If you read the readme file, you'll see that you don't need V4, only Dawn. Be aware that some of the mat files might not work in Daz Studio (though, in my experience, Powerage's stuff generally works quite well in Daz with minimal tweaking, or you can substitute third-party shaders).

Actually, I haven't seen anything yet that really grabs me and yells at me, "Buy me!" just yet, though I've put a good deal of stuff on my wishlist. Part of it is that money is tight, but also, what I really want to get for Dawn, clothes-wise, is more haute-couture/vintage/period outfits and accessories (and I'm not talking about steampunk, either; I mean authentic Victorian and Edwardian-era outfits!)

So far I find dawn poor in morphs. Few for the body but nothing for the face... and no UV compatibility... That mean redo skinning or buy new one. At least someone found a way to do a clone for autofit... I am still waiting to see interest in that character. Yes the debut is not bad but next... Look My Michelle, not bad but so poor stuff for her.

And I was expecting more in the basic free package. I see only a new character and prices the same as all other. They even sell the chair used in the pose pack... So is that really so good. I will wait to see but so far I am not sure that won't end as fast as it started... with a dead website...
