Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 17 12:50 am)
There are a few outfits that I wish could be converted, but I hate trying to fuss with stuff like WW and cross dresser, so for some really popular items, hair in particular, it would be nice if some fits came out. I love what Outoftouch and fabiana have done for theirs.

Quote - I don't understand the idea that XD is difficult and time consuming to use. I've never had it take over a few minutes to convert something. Yes, posing can be touchy at times, but I get around that by making the body part that pokes or poses wrong invisible.
Which ver are you using? The early ones were kind of sucky.

I'm using XD4. And yes, an earlier version was somewhat twitchy, but no problems with this one. Not even using a major name computer, just an off the shelf eMachine from WalMart.

Is that so.... Do you know if the figure files from Ver2 will work with XD4 or will I have to repurchase them?
I do things the hard way. I export the .obj file, tweak and scale it in Wings, import it back into Poser, apply the DEV rig I scaled it to, and then edit the cr2. But I like doing it that way. It's free, and I am learning things as I go.
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
I add a rough posefile to get started.
Load Dawn, Load a V3 conforming clothing, do not conform the clothing but aply the pose to it. Tweak if necessary (the fit of the arms looks horrible but works) In the pose room make a new fit, do not zero the clothing, but zero Dawn, and fit fit.
No guarantee whatsoever, but it works for me.
Quote - What are the Improvements to V4? Where can I buy this?
Thanks!
The Dawn figure itself is by Hivewire3D.com and is free for the time being.
I've been looking for a side-by-side comparison between V4, Dawn & Genesis, in terms of features, etc. but so far not much out there. She's only been out three days though, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will do a features YouTube vid or a pros & cons list.
Who honors those we love for the very life we live?, Who sends monsters to kill us?, and at the same time sings that we will never die., Who teaches us whats real?, and how to laugh at lies?, Who decides why we live and what we'll die to defend?, Who chains us?, and Who holds the key that can set us free... It's You!, You have all the weapons you need., Now Fight!
Quote - I bought the Dawn License for XD4. It works well for clothes and hair. However, the foot wear conversion is unusable. I would like to know how well WW2 does with Dawn Clothing/Footwear Conversions. Anyone have any experiences there?
AFAIK no converter does a good job on shoes and gloves. YMMV, they might have improved since.

It's sounding like I stay with G2 Female and V4...
I converted over 80 V4 hair characters to Dawn over the past few days using the Fitting Room in Poser 2014. I used these basic settings on the body of the hairs and usually got pretty good results: XScale 105%, ZScale 104%, Ztrans .197. Somebody else may come up with a set of tranforms that is more accurate.
I'm trying to convert jewelry next. Both necklaces and earrings take some tweaking before converting.
I bought the pose set/tutorial here for converting V4 clothing to Dawn in the Fitting Room. The tutorial was worth the very affordable price. Converting is really quick and easy.

Have you tried shoes?
While shoes are some of the easiest things to rig (other than boots), I realize most users don't wanna go that route. However, if they are just plain old shoes and not boots, export the object and reimport as props and they work really well. This won't work too well tho if the shoes are paired and will only export together as one object. If you know a little bit about a modeling program you can split those up and export them out of your modeler as separate shoes, then reimport as I've explained above.
Doesn't take as long as you think. The longest bit is refitting them to your new figure (and the most fidgety) ;).

Unfortunately yes with no success. I tried both a character where both shoes are together and characters for separate right and left shoes. I couldn't get either one to work right. I tried converting the Shoot 17 Cherokee boots and the heels disappeared completely. The rest of the boot look okay until I parented it then the toe went really weird. I even put Dawn's feet into the high heel position within the boots and didn't zero either item. I'm a total newbie with the fitting room. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting shoes to work?

What tutorial is that? I have so much stuff I want to use on Dawn
I'd also like to know about that pose set/tutorial @pigfis9.
Edited to Add: OK, I think I have those sets, one for Dawn and one for Dusk by Lyrra called Fitroom Helpers.
Unfortunately, I only see the Dusk set available here and at HiveWire. Not sure what happened to the Dawn set.

OK . . . Where's my chocolate?
I hate to tell you this, but I have no idea. I have debilitating hand issues so I stopped converting once more content became available. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I used the fitting room in Poser.
I did searches in both the marketplace and my purchased content here at Renderosity. I did searches at Dawn’s original home, HiveWire3d, and Poser’s content site, Content Paradise and found nothing at either.
Maybe the creator or another Poser user will remember.
I'm guessing it may have been this.

I'm not sure if I'm annoyed or hopeful with what's going on with the base figures right now - too much of a good thing? Vic 5 was barely out and then we have Vic 6, Genesis 2, Improvements to V4, and now Dawn (I guess Alice never made it and then there's Steff and Miki).
I guess I diverged there - anyways to business - does anyone know if there will be a converter to go between V4 and Dawn? As I understand it the people who made V4 were the ones who made Dawn but are no longer with Daz. After so many years with V4 I really don't want to start purchasing another wardrobe. I that's the case I probably won't bother with Dawn.
