I considered it, but like you said, it'd be a bitch. Plus, I don't have any good pictures of the relief sculpture on the parthenon. If I did, I might be able to scan them, turn them B&W, then import them into a terrain and use that for relief, but even that probably wouldn't look right. So, I probably won't do reliefs, though I wish I could.
Hey there .. As someone that lived in Nashville (where there is a full size replica of the Parthenon) I have a few suggestions ... Also you might try going to http://www.munnsgallery.com/ cause he has awesome renders of a similar structure .. Built the 7 wonders of the world ... But anyway .. The columns are too short and there is a secondary interior set that goes about the main structure ... The roof is not made of stone like that but is a open woodwork lattice or was originaly to allow rainwater to colect in the center as a reflecting pool. The pillars are not perfectly in a row, they sort of bow a little to diminsh the effects of perspective and also slant slightly for the same reason ... Hope that helps some and I have more things but cant remember them right now .. If you have questions let me know and I will try to help.. Back to work
Actually, I knew some of that, especially the parts about the columns being taller and not standing straight. In the actual one, they're also not spaced evenly and taper funny (called entasis). I didn't know about the roof, as the only image I've got is of the real parthenon in Athens, with only part of the roof still standing. But I'm only basing it loosely on the parthenon, so I'm not trying to recreate it exactly. Thanks for the help, though. Some of that stuff would be really tough to accomplish, or I'd try it.
It may not look exactly like the Parthenon, but it looks good. Nice work. As for saving your scene files I'll quote Clinton and say......... "I feel your pain!" I have some scene files that take quite a long time to save and load, not much you can do about it except get more RAM, grin&bear it! It's the price we pay for detail. ;)
By the way, GhostofMacbeth, I'm glad you were picky. I can't improve without criticism or suggestions. Actually, though, the columns would be very difficult to do, mostly because there are so many of them... something like 136 or so. As for the roof, I might try it out if I find a picture... I'll check out that page you mentioned later today. Neal, I think the columns are what make it save and load so slowly as well. Something along the lines of 5 minutes, which for my computer is a long time. Thanks guys. =)
