Not to throw you off but in Blocks 81---City 1 to 17 and the time period depicted...shouldn't the kids be able to walk up towards the hills and find a hidden swimming hole complete with a rope swing to swing out over the pond and let go and drop in during the day and a lovers lookout make-out point by night? (hint, hint) :biggrin:

Nice idea but not sure why there would be a swimming hole on top of a sand dune. :-)
Might do something like that in the future though.
Right now I am focusing on keeping the poly count as low as I can.
Have gotten the ocean down from 2,254,256 polygons to about 45,079 polygons and still able to maintain the waves pretty well.
Did that by reducing the diameter of the scene from 2 miles across to 1.5 miles. Helps the whole scene in that it will allow the 5,700 trees
to be closer together or reduce the amount of trees. Also have yet to reduce the sand base by trimming off the extra polygons around the edge so to speak.
As of right now I have the polygon count down to around 104,553 polygons for the whole scene. Hope to keep it under 200,000 max as I have yet to build the snack stand,
showers and bath building which will be just outside shower heads like I see at the beach here. No interiors on any structures for obvious reasons.
The beach is arched in shape so you can have a camera at either end, and not see the other end, just to help with the infinity I am going for here.
Also added an extension to the pier for the wave break and additional warning light pole. Still need to add ladders and more mooring posts but getting pretty close on the Pier.
Still have a bunch of work to do on the lighthouse textures.
Total pier is 1,383 feet long which is a little over a quarter mile or two or three city blocks. In the distance you can see the road that goes up and over the dune. It ends at a rather large parking lot with stairs to the beach.

This set is big but will still be easy on your system resources. The girl at the end of the pier will give you a sense of the scale of this scene.

Misunderstood. Not for this set but a new Movie Sets, City Block Eighteen, or Nineteen, or Twenty. When placed in 81 blocks, you have the hills in the background or I guess you could call it the top where it could be located. The topic of a swimming hole came up in a group I trade emails with on illustrating stories. Nobody knew of one. Then somebody asked about a 50's 60's make out point. Figured if done right you could spin the camera 180 and have one on side and one on the other.
But lets not distract from the ocean front. My characters have lots of boats and love to go out on the water and make the guys drool while showing off their newest bikini's :laugh

Glad you found what you want. Here is a look at the bathrooms, exterior shower area, and the snack bar from left to right. One picnic table will be included. Also one grill will be included. Both will be separate objects.As I said before there will be no interiors on this set due to keeping the polygon count down as much as possible.
Still have a way to go on this product. Hope you like what I have so far.

The water is not animated. Sorry to disappoint you. Doing that would require millions of polygons of geometry, with a load-unload geometry spinner. I do not want this product to go over 150,000 polygons if at all possible. That way you can add people to the scene and still have enough power on the average system to do a render and have good settings for a high quality render. Also if I did waves at say 15 frames a second I would get complaints like " how come I can't do a one minute movie with waves?!". Also as I am sure you are aware the waves breaking on the shoreline is way too complicated for Poser to handle well.
Maya, with the help of a water plugin like Real Flow would be the way to go for an effect like that.
Here is another look at the Snack Bar at a distance to give you an idea of the scale of this product. The snack bar is just above the bow of the boat on the left. You can also just see the life guard stand just in front of that. So as you can see this scene is very large. :-)

Here is a view from way down the beach. I added a guy in the lower left have corner of this image walking along the beach, to help you get an idea of the scale of this product.
The pier is 1,358 feet long or about a quarter mile long.
My biggest hurdle now is going to be able to do a great water shader for this scene in Poser.
Anyone have a great water shader that they would like to share with the rest of the class? The waves are modeled into the geometry but are now extremely detailed for obvious reasons.

I talked to Ted and he said he might be able to help me out if he has time. If anyone here has a good shader for sand that gets darker the lower it goes from world zero that would be a great help. Would also be very cool to have a wet sand a little above the shoreline as is the case on a lake or ocean. Ted is a very busy man and I need help asap. Also help with a good water shader would be excellent as well. Those are the hardest shaders in this scene, and as I am not a materials guru in Poser I would love to get any help I can. Here is the water and sand that I am talking about.

It was relative to the wood shaders in your furniture sets.
But I guess the same principle could probably be applied to the sand here...???
I simply do not have time to try and learn how to do it at this point. If you have a sample shader that I can use that would be great!

The people in this scene were created with a new feature in Max and they took two clicks to create. Sorry they have so many clothes on. :-)

Have a pretty good start on this set called Movie Sets, Ocean Front. Well at least I think that will be the final name. :-)
The entire model is two miles across in every direction. This scene shows a little of it with the end of the Pier with the light house. Pier is about a half mile long.
Will include about a mile and a half long beach with dunes, a long entry road, life guard stands, Bath house with outside showers, and maybe a snack stand, and on and on with the list of details...
A Two mile diameter sky dome to add your skies to. I will include a link to where you can buy huge images that are 15,000 x 7,500 for great renders. Will include one low rez image that is 3000 x 1500 with the set just so you have something to work with.
People, Plane, and boats are not included.
Keep in mind as always that this is just a test render in 3D Studio Max just so I can get the materials and proportions right.
Hope you like what I have so far. Still have a long way to go...
