Hi gang... I decided to try my hand at making a texture for Victoria, and I never could get the hang of making photographs line up, so I'm trying to hand paint one... I put the very first render into the gallery if you want to see that one... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=89364 But the image above is where I'm at now, I still haven't done anything to her body texture, and yes I know her body is a bit splotchy, but I'm going to fix that... but I'd like oppinions on her head texture, and her face morph, I'm rather pleased with how her face came out... I'll post another image with better lighting... this one is the one I use to test the texture out, it's rather harsh lighting...

I like it! Very soft use of color, not overdone, rather just right

Has a dreamy feeling. Nice.

Very nice, "dreamy feel" yup I totally agree. Well done, can't wait to see it once it's done.

Beautiful! Kinda reminds me of Pocahontas (SP?) from the Disney movie.

Cin- ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2001 at 10:59 PM

Pocahontas?? I think that's just the hair... :) I'm having fits trying to get the body texture... :( A texturer I'm not... I'm getting the hang of faces, or at least putting make up on already done faces, this is the first time I tried my own from scratch, but the head texure I'm pleased with... I'm just not having much luck with the body so far... but I'll keep at it, I should've started this project Friday night, instead of Sunday afternoon, at least that way I'd have had more of the weekend to mess with it... thanks everyone for you input so far... I'll try to keep everyone updated.

Okay, this is as far as I'm going to get on the body texture tonight... bed time... must get up for work in like 6 hours... bah, who needs 8 hours of sleep... zzzzzz (snore)... I know she still needs a LOT of work, but for my first try *I* think I'm doing okay...

lalverson ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 12:47 AM

Pretty damn good..

TeenOob ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 1:56 AM

It's because of the combination of hair, eyes, and lips. If she was a darker skin tone, and maybe had more pronounced cheek bones, she'd be a perfect match for Pocahontas. Funny thing, before I started reading the posts, I thought you were trying to make Pocohantas, I think it's mainly the lips though. I absolutely love it ^_^ Though, I think the hair is a bit too high on her forhead, but that's just me.

Famine ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 2:07 AM

Its really great. The skin looks to shinny. I might buy that one if it gos on sale.

gladiator ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 2:24 AM

Very nice work. Just one comment. Maybe you should make the eyebrows a little less brushy. A beauty like this wouldn't go out if her appearance wasn't perfect. :)

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 3:53 AM

I do like the face tones...very nice. Sharen

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 5:51 AM

I really like the eyes - are the highlights from the lighting or painted on? If part of the texture, you might consider having an alternate set without, so they can be matched with a scene's lighting.

Cin- ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 10:01 AM

Answers - :) TeenOob - Okay, so maybe she does look like Pocahontas, but that wasn't the goal, but I guess it's a compliment, considering how much money they paid those Disney people to make Pocahontas look like that. ;) Her hair is pretty up on her face, but I just put it there to get a better view of her face... hair always helps define the shape of the face. Famine - I've got a slight highlight set for the skin, that's probably what is making it look shiney... that plus the lighting I'm using... I use that particular light set because it tends to pick up flaws more, so I can spot them more easily... do think it looks shiney in the second face picture, the one with the blue and pinkish lighting? I don't think I could sell it, I've borrowed a "bit" from another texture... let's just say I couldn't get her "nether region" to look at all human by painting it in... Gladiator - Her eyebrows actually aren't painted onto the texture map, they're a transmap on the "Upper Eyebrows" so you could actually repaint them on the transmap, and create different looks... the transmap I'm using right now isn't mine, I'm going to make one after I get the texture how I want it, and it will be thinner. ;) SAMS3D - Thanks Sharen! I plan on making a few different head textures with different made up looks. gryffnn - Part of the highlights are texture, part of the highlights are from the lighting... I'll have to test it in different lighting schemes to see how it reacts. Thanks again everyone for you comments, I'll keep at it, but since it's the regular week now I won't be able to work on it as much... have to do the regular job thing or they don't pay me. :)

Mehndi ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 3:46 PM

Cin I like it alot :) Good work on the eyebrows and a very soft eyeshadow :) The lips are natural, and do not overwhelm the face despite the fact she has full lips, which is a trick in its own right to pull off! The only addition I might make is to add a very slight hint of blush across the cheeks perhaps, just the slightest amount, and maybe over the bridge of the nose too. Perhaps a freckle here and there, or a slight spot to the skin too will increase realism and give it that "is this painted or is this a photo" effect :) You are doing a great job, wish my first efforts had shown such promise!

Poppi ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 5:18 PM

Oh, I like her lips.

Okay people... I didn't have much time to work on this, and it's past my bedtime, but I wanted to post another picture showing off her body texture a little bit. I took Mehndi's advice and painted on a few more freckle spots, but I'm not that satisfied with them, so I think I'm going to re-do that part, and I plan on adding a few to her face as well, just didn't get that far yet, and I SO need to do something with her fingernails, they're kind of creeping me out with that dead flesh look they have now :) Thanks again everyone for your comments, it's helping to keep me going... :) So, to give me something to work on, how 'bout some suggestions as to what make-up colors you'd like to see for her once I finalize the texture base? (The bronzy-beige-y eyeshadow is on a seperate layer, I just wanted to add some color so it didn't look so plain.) Oooh, and names would be good too, so far I've been calling her Erika, and at one point I had spelled it Aerika... but I dunno... (Sorry about the big-ish picture, but I wanted you to be able to see the detail a bit)
