Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
Rendo files are zipped so that if you extract using the included paths, everything winds up in the right directory.
There are a lot of opinions as to the best path to take. Some say unzip to your runtime (or whichever runtime you want the item in) while others say unzip to a dummy runtime and then move the files (by copying the runtime folder and merging it with the desired primary runtime.
I don't think it makes much difference, personally, but you are going to get all sorts of advice here, all of it probably valid at some level or the other.
If you REALLY want to be confused, I'll explain to you how I move all the prop and pose files to the character folder and place those items inside the character folder for the item. Confused yet? OK. Ignore that... it's for people like me who have a heck of a hard time remembering what goes with what. Go back to the top of this post for the simple answer.
Nope, that is initially it. As long as the zipped content is set up with the proper Library hierarchy, you are good to go. You always want to unzip to the Parent folder of your runtime, not the runtime folder itself. Otherwise, you will create a nested runtime which may or may not get recognized within Poser.
Extracting to a temporary folder allows you to examine the content and how it is laid out. Some vendors create an author's folder, then place the runtime within that. This causes considerable problems if you were to directly unzip into your primary content folder. Better to be safe than sorry later on when looking for content hidden away elsewhere.
I use Winzip, and have it set for "Use Full Path Information."
You can use the built in uncompress in Windows if you like. Just tell it to "Extract Here." You then can find the "Runtime" folder that results... may be the top folder, may be the next one down depending on how the Zip was created... and move it to the runtime folder where you have all your content. If you are using the default Poser setup this is located at: "C:/Users/Public/Documents/Poser Pro 2014 Content/Runtime. (You don't say what version of Poser you are running... it could be different from what I say here.) Drop the folder in the PP Content folder. Tell it to Merge the contents. Your new content is installed.
Someone else may know an even easier way... I use Winzip.
(I just cross-posted with Hborre... he is basically telling you the same thing I am. Hope that between us, it makes sense to you.)
just unzip the folder and nameit something. IT hould have a folder called Runtime inside it. Drop the folder into a folder that has all your other external runtimes in it. from inside poser, navigage to that folder from the library and add it.
if it is a matchign set to one you already have eg a texture set for a clothing or hair or something, then just merge it into the appropriate folder. this works on both pc and mac.
Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

Sorry for the noobie question, but how do i install renderosity files in poser and daz? The way I used to do it was to manually extract the files in a locaiton then move the folders one by one in their location. I hope there is a better way please.
