I was inspired by the news of the Batman vs Superman movie talk. They are keeping a pretty tight lid on the new Batman costume. The web is full of fakes, so I thought I would see what I could come up with.

I still have to UV map a lot of the parts and finalze the textures; I have a few issues to fix, but overall, this is probably my best modeling to date.

Would you want this if I offered it up in the freestuff? Can I even put it in there, or does it violate some sort of copyright?

I got it UV mapped, so I will be spending the next few days creating texture maps and seeing what I can do to make it really pop.

Thanks for the kind words!

You can offer it freely as long as you don't call it Batman.  Conceptually, I don't think it is in any violation.

Beautiful job.

Yeah, I was going to call it 'Hero Suit for Tyler' anyhow.

If you think he looks good now, wait until you see the finished product. I am going to rig it, and since you have a DC character of your own, I would like to see them together in a render. Give me about another week or so and it should be uploaded and ready to fly.

Uhhh... no pun intended....

I seem to have found my niche. I've tried modeling motorcycles, arctic snow cats, massage tables... all a success, but doing these costumes gives me a lot of pleasure.

If I can pull this off, I may try the new Man of Steel costume next. That one seems to be pretty straight forward at first glance. But if you dig deep, there is A LOT going on with that suit.

Maybe I'll wait until the pics of the new suit come out and try that.

I would like to see conceptual costumes for the Legion of Superheroes, breaking away from the comic book silver age traditionals.  Especially since current action movies are redesigning costumes with real world appearance.  Just a nudge to your creative juices.

Everything is UV mapped, and this is the initial materials. I am not happy with a couple of them, specifically the symbol and the cape, so I am rethinking those. I am putting this out there for opinions. What would you change? I liked the original enough, but it looked a little plastic for me.

A side-by-side comparison...

What I really like about the new materials are the gloves. I managed to pull off a great white shark body appearance by both modeling the seam in there and the UV map.

I am not a merchant. I will end up putting this in the freestuff section as a fully rigged conforming costume. I was doing it as a concept on the new Batman suit for the next Man of Steel movie.

I am going to do some touch-up work on the boots and redo the symbol and the cape textures.

Perhaps it's tume to become one and get a little in return for all of your hard work ;-) I'm not saying you should ask a fortune for it, just a little in return. There are a few stores around that allow you to set your own price and sell for a small amount everyone can afford and will give you some money in return to buy some stuff you would like.

From what I've seen, I don't think the effort would be worth it for me. I only produce something I feel strong enough to post about once every 6 months. I don't really want to get into the selling game because it would turn a hobby into a job for me. Then it would lose its luster.

But thanks for considering my work good enough to sell...

I used the morphs that Tyler came with (basically they are Ryan 2's morphs) to beef him up, but I still wanted him to look a bit more realistic in body proportions. I will include details on which morphs to dial up when I package this.

I think I have achieved what I am going to use as the final textures. I'll post that next. Thanks for your kind words!

The final textures.

Next I am going to fix a couple issues I discovered in the body suit's mesh and in the gloves. I am going to fix the eyebrows of the cowl and move the eyes down to cover Tyler's eyebrows, and then start rigging.

I think for the rigging, I am going to follow suit (no pun intended) with what I did for Miki 4's armor, and rig the suit as much as I can as a single unit.

rokket ( ) posted Wed, 01 January 2014 at 4:16 AM

I fixed the asymmetry in the thigh armor and added some detail to the boots. I am going to fix a poke through issue on the suit and the gloves, then I start rigging.

The next render I post will be the rigged suit.

Are there any tutorials about rigging a cape? I am thinking I will just leave this as a dynamic cloth for now.

I think I may have that one. I'll have to check and see. I have a lot of DC and Marvel animated movies.

When I started this out, I was going for a look between David Finch's Batman The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Arkham Origins video game. I changed some of the textures around to give it my own twist. The costume in the pic is pretty damn good, though. I would have copied it, but I couldn't do a cowl and cape as one piece without bad things happening to the mesh...

I also have a funny feeling that the bat suit for the new movie will look a lot like the one in this post. It's the Batman from Arkham Origins.

It'a not a film. It's a game. Blur Studios (I think it was Blur) did an animated intro for the game (as well as for DC Universe Online - you should see the trailers for that one) hat really would justify a full length movie being made but nothing ever came of it. They do have an ongoing series I believe that takes place within the game's alternate universe.

I was not a fan of Bat's look in that game at all.

There was an animated film about the Justice League fighting the Injustice Gang, called "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" but that has nothing to do with "Injustice: Gods Among Us" beyond the fact that it's an alternate universe where some of the Justice League members have gone bad (in Crisis on Two Earths, the entire Justice League are villains).

Teyon ( ) posted Fri, 03 January 2014 at 1:34 PM

Also, Bill Finger had just as much, if not more, influence on the creation of Batman (back in the days of him carrying a gun) and never gets mentioned. Kind of sad.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Fri, 03 January 2014 at 1:52 PM

Yeah, I figured it had something to do with a game. You could tell in the fight sequences. Still wasn't bad though, and you can find the "movie" on Youtube.

I have most of the rigging done, and I am tweaking what is left of the joint parameters. But my creative juices were flowing the last couple days and I came up with this. There are, of course, changes I am going to make, but I banged this out in less than a day, start to finish!

Yeah, I thought it was one of the animated movies. I have several of them, and the two animated series. It was the second animated series that sparked the interest in the Amazon Princess above...

I am working on the Flash right now, using Ryan. I won't do the Martian Manhunter, but I am going to do a Green Lantern and MAYBE the Man of Steel. Then I will offer them as a set in the Freestuff section, maybe minus the logos (but there may be an Easter egg with them hidden in the files somewhere). All in time...
