Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
DSON content goes into that same folder on my desktop in a DAZ Studio type file structure ( see attachment). I had DAZ Studio 4.6 installed at one time and just copied the file structure. But you don't need DAZ Studio installed to run DSON. It will install a DAZ Studio type folder when you go through the DSON install process if I remember correctly.
Once the DS folder was on my PC, I moved it from the default location unde My Documents just to make it easier for me to find stuff if I need to do any direct manipulation of files. This is the folder that gets linked to Poser to make DSON content work. It's also where I point the DAZ Install Manager to.
Older Poser specific DAZ content that uses the old installers get installed into the default Poser Directory and then moved into one of my other runtimes. Content delivered in ZIP files get unzipped to the desktop and then are copied into the desired target runtime.
Hope this helps.
I am using windows 7
My problem was having a folder called Content that Poser Pro uses and another folder called Studio that Daz4.5 uses.
I could not get poser to read the studio folder.
I am trying to merge these folders so that I only have a Content folder containing all files for both PP and Daz 4.5
I have done my best so far in that I the following tree of folders could you check out the image and let me know if you see something wrong.

At first look it seems like the DAZ Studio folder structure has somehow been merged into Poser's main content location. As you can see from an expanded view of my DAZ Studio type directory, I do not have a DSON folder, nor do I have an Instaqll Manager directory anywhere . Also my runtime folder inside the DAZ Studio looks very different.
For the DSON thing to work there has to be a DAZ Studio directory living independently outside of Poser. Your DSON installer does go into the main Poser directory. But the actual Poser companion files go into that DAZ Studio directory. To see and use the content in Poser, the DAZ Studio directory is added to Poser as an external runtime. I'll post some more pics to see if they help.
I merged everything into one file called Daz3D/Content and left the DSON folder under runtimes.
I merged everything so I did not have duplicate files everywhere and the sturcture was not working anyhow.
I can see from my folder tree that I have Gen1 outside of the runtimes, and gen 2 inside the runtime under DSON folder.
Poser can open Gen2 so I figure I could move Gen1 with it and poser should open it, maybe what do you think. Cheers

I was confused about this stuff for a long time too. Being a long time Poser user ( since version 2) I knew exactly where things were supposed to go. The DAZ Studio set up is completely different, so it took many tries before I could understand where things went. I probably have some folders in my directory that don't need to be there for DSON to work with Poser. But I leave the basic set up alone . It took me too long to figure out how to get this far :-)
Hey just thought I would let you know, I have found multipull instances of a Daz folder in my documents folder and now one in my C:/ PoserPro folder.
Poser loads the Gen1 from its C:/drive and loads Gen2 from my documents folder.
Its become a real mess to navigate so I am having to search and modify what I find.
What a mess, thanks for the help.

I am just having to go through it all to make I know where things are, as long as the program works I am happy.
Daz3d seems to work and find things OK and so Dose Poser now, I thought I could have everything for both programs in my documents folder other than what is needed inside of poser.

I think an image showing what folders are contained and how they relate would be very helpful.
My file structure to access Daz3d Content ie Genisis is a mess, any help via images would be most beneficial please
