Yes it is, a major fault on the Programmers Part, good thing I don't sign their paychecks, they wouldn't get paid for this month that's for sure.

Happy New Year everyone

The Fractal Showcase for December is now up December Showcase

I have been trying to figure out how to get a wider variety of Fractals into the Showcase. I like the Fractals layout for the Showcase better than say the Poser, Daz or most other Subcommunities here on Renderosity but unlike Poser and DAZ(which has several Staff members adding selections to be Showcased)  Fractals just has me...Any Staff member can add an image to the Fractals selections if they wanted to but none ever do so it's just my tastes that get represented in the Showcase.

I will ponder this a bit and try to come up with a way to get everyone involved in selecting Images to be Showcased every Month and if any of you have any suggestions on how we can achieve this let me know either in this Thread of Sitemail.

I don't mind doing it that's not a problem but it only seems fair to have more than just my Taste in Fractals represented in the Showcase, let me know what you all think.

Good choices again, Len.

I think you do a fantastic job with everything.
But I can understand you.
Would be nice if YOUR images were picked, every now and then. :-)
Maybe we should take turns in  picking images for the showcase?

Corrie

Lenord ( ) posted Wed, 01 January 2014 at 10:42 AM

My images can't be included anyway, I'm Staff it's just not allowed, same goes for Challenges and that's OK. I hadn't thought of a rotation but not sure that would work, whoever's turn it was would have to be here everyday....a lot. Plus the fact not all of us fractalists are here on a regular basis and I am not sure how many even know there's a Fractals Forum at all.

I was thinking along the lines of creating a Monthly Thread where any Fractalist, or any member for that matter, could post a selection they deem worthy and then I could add it to the Staff Picks Thread in Mt Doom(Staff Holding place for everything) where they are stored until posted in the Showcase.

Remember...No matter where you go there you are

peedy ( ) posted Wed, 01 January 2014 at 10:48 AM

Darn!
I want to be able to pick your images, too!
They all are fantastic and I really don'see a problem with them being in the Showcase!

Hm, that monthly tread could work, yes.

dochtersions ( ) posted Wed, 01 January 2014 at 11:23 AM

First of all: "A very happy new year"!

A pity indeed, that your beauties are excluded in order to see in the showcase, Len.
Incidentally, your last proposal seems excellent to me.

Lenord ( ) posted Tue, 07 January 2014 at 7:34 PM · edited Tue, 07 January 2014 at 7:38 PM

I haven't forgotten about the idea for a thread for Showcase picks. Just been busy lately IRL, plus the fact I've been having troubles deciding if I want to continue being a Moderator much longer, don't want to start something and not be able to continue, so we'll see what we see. It's nothing to do with the Fractals Subcommunity just politics, I hate the politics.............

Remember...No matter where you go there you are

peedy ( ) posted Tue, 07 January 2014 at 11:20 PM

Oh, so do I, Len, so do I. ;-)

Just take your time on deciding. :-)

Hi Len,

Politics is working worthless nowadays, and we never interfere with those things.

I hope everything is going to be easier for you, and I already now know, that we will miss you, Len.

You really are the driving force 'behind' this forum.

Of course you should feel completely free to do what feels right for yourself,  and according to your ability.

In any case, you have brought us all much good, with your commitment to the fractal forum, Len.

Cheers, Mies. :)

spiegel428 ( ) posted Sun, 19 January 2014 at 5:02 PM

I'm not sure that a public thread to suggest images for the showcase would be a good idea. I think it'd look like a popularity contest, no matter what good intentions all involved have.  For a similar reason I understand why Len as the moderator can't participate in the showcase and the challenges, even though his images are outstanding.

Whatever you decide, Len, thanks for your work on the fractal forum.

I've decided I'll stick around, I wouldn't quit anyway but I thought I might be getting close to getting Fired there for a bit. I'm not exactly a shrinking Violet when it comes to voicing my opinions and sometimes that doesn't go over too well with the bosses.

As for the Monthly Showcase Spiegel has a point, plus the fact that it's called Staff Picks I should probably let it stay the way it is, it was just a thought anyway.

We appreciate your decision, Len, just continue what you are,

Hoping you will not lose any more weight, both literally and figuratively.

Thumbs up.
Mies :).

spiegel428 ( ) posted Mon, 20 January 2014 at 4:27 PM

Good to know you'll stick around, Len.

FWIW, I thought the latest showcase was nicely well-balanced.

I was thinking today that it might be nice to have a thread to point out and welcome newcomers to the fractal gallery/the site. I always try to comment when I notice a new face, 'cause I remember how encouraged the comments made me feel when I was starting[1] and I'm sure others do too. That's the kind of thread where we could all help.

[1] Back in pre-history when we had to carry our fractals in the snow uphill both ways and OMG I just looked at the date and in a month I'll be here 10 years!

Lenord ( ) posted Mon, 20 January 2014 at 5:13 PM

The problem is I don't think many Fractalists even know there is a Forum for Fractals, only a very few ever post in here. There hadn't been a post in so long in this Forum when I first decided to jump in and do something there wasn't even 1 Thread visibly present. No challenges in a year the Showcase hadn't been updated in 6 months and in fact the last Moderator and Coordinator had quit 6 months earlier and no one even knew they'd left.

That means to me Fractalists would just rather be doing them than talking about them, that goes for me too, doing is the name of the game.

Fractals has the Best Showcase on the site, best layout dedicated to actually Showcasing members works, all the others have basically a Thread or Sidebars in their Forum with a few Mentions. We have a whole page dedicated to Showcasing. Of Course Poser/Daz have the Marketplace, guess you can call that a Showcase of sorts.

Any member who wants can start a Thread here, as long as it's Fractal Related and content and conduct adheres to the TOS it's fine, some Off Topic Threads would be OK too. Jokes, Current events, Games whatever...One of my favorite Forum Threads on an old site was "Music Lyrics" Give s few lines of a songs lyrics and whoever gets the Artist and Title right gets to give the next set of lyrics(no Googling allowed)....

This is your Forum not mine, it belongs to the Fractalists....

dochtersions ( ) posted Tue, 21 January 2014 at 2:21 AM

It's interesting information that you share with us, Len.

So anyone can take initiatives so that the fractalists may have more contact with each other, or the like.

It sounds like fun.

Cheers, Mies :)

Lenord ( ) posted Tue, 21 January 2014 at 8:15 AM

Exactly right Mies, this Forum belongs to Fractals, the Gallery is where we showcase our talents as artists, the Forum is where we share Ideas and showcase who we are as people. This is Fractals Forum, it belongs to the members, I'm just the Janitor around here.

Remember...No matter where you go there you are

spiegel428 ( ) posted Tue, 21 January 2014 at 3:37 PM

I don't know if I'd say that fractalists would rather be doing than talking. I think what happens is that the community here is (sadly) too small to have a busy forum -- although I'd hope it could be slightly more active than it is.

Of course if as you say people don't realize there's a forum, they may simply think that there isn't a venue for talking.

Len, can you turn a thread sticky if someone else starts it? I didn't see an option for me to do that. Er, if I'm not presuming too much in thinking that a "welcome/introduce yourself" thread is worthy of sticking.

Lenord ( ) posted Tue, 21 January 2014 at 5:34 PM

Sure I can make a thread a Sticky, that won't guarentee they will stay on top though. Even Stickies get pushed out after zero activity for "X" amount of time, I have a lot of stickies I have to search the Archives for every time I need one.

But yeah I can Stick a Thread

Remember...No matter where you go there you are

spiegel428 ( ) posted Sat, 25 January 2014 at 11:08 AM

Really? The stickies don't really stick? Huh.

Anyway, I've created a thread, now we just need some replies. =)

I'm all for game threads, how about a fractal related one? Like a mini-challenge? One person suggests a couple of words like "red, bird". The next person posts an image that fits one or both and changes one word for the next round  like "bird, square" and so on. Or several people could post images and the... third or fifth or tenth to post, picks the next round using a completely different theme.

Lenord ( ) posted Sat, 25 January 2014 at 11:22 AM · edited Sat, 25 January 2014 at 11:23 AM

I'm not sure what the time frame is but yeah...normal threads I think get archived after 30 days(maybe 28) of inactivity, Stickies and Announcements I'm not sure but just look at the Archives, full of Stickies. Threads don't go away just archived, all you have to do is click archines and they are all listed in order, or do a Search and check by time frame, subcommunity, user, topic or certain words and phrases...

Start a thread like you were suggesting, state the objective and rules and I'll stick it and see if it flies, it'll either fly or it won't. You can link to it on your Image posts if you want, onsite links are allowed anywhere on Rendo, Forums or Gallery, you could even add a link to your Forum Sig if you want.

Ok! Before I do that, any size limits for the uploads on the game thread?

Lenord ( ) posted Sat, 25 January 2014 at 7:29 PM

Actually I'm not sure what the limits are for attachments in Threads are guess I'll have to check that out with Admin, don't think I ever saw it listed anywhere.

Lenord ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2014 at 8:29 AM

Ha, yeah Yellow, I like yellow/orange, does best Volumetric light IMO...had a running thing for years with a good friend Jazzie(Jollyself), she hates yellow and will never use it, she uses a lot of pink I hate Pink, always digging on each other about it. Actually I just prefer earth tones but it's whatever works in the end.
