So I've shaped Roxie's face to look like this. Her name is Shante. There's a joke in there for anyone who was into hip hop back in the day. Think Roxanne, Roxanne.

Anyway, I think the face turned out great. So much so that I want to distribute it as a freebie character for Roxie. The problem is what is the best way to do that?

cedarwolf ( ) posted Fri, 31 January 2014 at 10:42 AM

Nicely done.

Thanks. Right now, I'm working on the body texture to match the face.

So far, It's all Roxie, but I was thinking of distributing more as a morph for Roxie.

Do it as a PMD injection...

http://nerd3d.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=13

The pain is deleting the uneeded morphs, so if you have a dev version of Roxie (I'm not at my Poser machine right now), export the morphed head as an obj, load the dev version and bring it in as a morph target, and then proceed as above....

Okay, I'm having a hard time comprehending somethings here. I want to make a distributable morph for Roxie's face. Everyone says there's two ways to do it, Save as a cr2 file or as a PMD.

Okay, I choose the PMD route. Now I'm following Nerd3D's in structions except he's having me save the figure to the library, then create a PZ2 file. What I don't  quite get is why?

And why add all the other morph groups.

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Sun, 02 February 2014 at 1:30 PM

That's a lovely morph you have there!

For the face only, export the morphed face as an obj file, then use PhilC's PoserToolbox to save the morph for distribution following his instructions. That creates an obj file with no actual geometry in it.

I still have to master morph injection files.

Okay, so I put together a pz2 injection file as per Nerd3d's tutorial. I basically just cut and pasted the text code and saved it.  Moved the PMD file and the Icon.PNG file to a Pose library. I loaded Roxie, then tried to inject the morph PMD file, but I got Not a valid Poser file. See the Screen grab. Any idea what went wrong?

Saving the figure created the .pmd file.

Did you save the pz2 as a plain text file?

I saved it as an RTF file and changed the extension on it. TextEdit doesn't recognise the PZ2 file extension. but it will add it on as long as the rtf extension is there as well. I then deleted the .rtf extension.

hborre ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2014 at 9:04 AM

Most text editors will not open PZ2's directly, you usually use a "open with..." command on the system to initiate the file recognition.  At least, that is how it works in Windows.  I don't know if it is similar in MACs.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2014 at 10:14 AM

Funny thing is I use TextEdit to open and alter cr2 files with no problem. Poser will read them. Just not the Pz2 file. So I need to figure out why Poser doesn't think it's a valid file.

WandW ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2014 at 11:32 AM

RTF is Rich Text Format, which won't work.  Try saving it as .txt and renaming it...

As long as the text editor doesn't rearrange the format upon saving, most should be good.

Okay, I downloaded Textwrangler and it did save the file so that Poser could read it, but... When I tried to load the pose I got something I can't quite explain. The main thing is that nothing worked even though the morph did seem to be injected. In fact, it seems there were dials  that I have no idea where they came from.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Mon, 03 February 2014 at 9:54 PM

I still want to distribute it as a freebie, but it looks like It's going to have to be as a cr2 unless I can get that PMD injection working  by the time I get the texture right.

Thanks for the compliment, Rokket. I'm glad you like it.

You know, another issue I'm having is with the texture. trying to get the head and body to match shades. Tried to use Snarey's ezskin, but it doesn't reconize Roxie. Tried to import the presets, that's not workin all the time either.

WandW ( ) posted Tue, 04 February 2014 at 12:31 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2014 at 12:32 PM

file_501544.txt

I was just playing with it and was able to get it to work, with a caveat.

I created a Faceroom morph applied it, and then exported the head (And only the Head) as an obj, with As Morph Target, Include Body Part Names... and Use Exact Interal Names... checked.

Since the supplied Dev Rig for Roxie is Roxie 1, I then stripped the morphs out of a copy of Roxie. ** I loaded this morphless cr2, selected the head, and imported the obj file from above as a morph target .  I then checked Use Binary Morph Targets in General Preferences and saved the figure to the Library. I then unckeched Use Binary Morph Targets.

I copied the .pmd to a Pose folder and created an injection Pose to load the .pmd.  it loads with the dial set to zero, so it needs to be set to 1.

The caveat is that the Faceroom may also change the shapes of the teeth and eyes, so they may need to be exported seperately and brought in as morph targets; the example I did had a bit of the gum protruding below the lip when I applied the morph with certain expressions.  However, you can get around this by exporting the entire figure and importing it as an FBM...

** I since discovered that the Roxie 1 DEV rig could be converted to Roxie 1.1 by changing the .obj file reference, so attached is a Roxie 1.1 DEV crz; just copy to your Roxie Character folder and remove the txt erxtension...

Okay, I think I know why I may not be able to do this. with a PMD. I made this face morph a couple of weeks before I used the content updater from SM. So I used Roxie 1.0, but now I have Roxie 1.1 in my runtime. I don't think my Roxie Dev Rig has changed because I can inject the PMD into the Dev Rig with no problem. But when I try to inject the PMD into Roxie 1.1 it doesnt work. I still have  the face morph, but I'm going to try and recreate in with Roxie 1.1 and see how I do.

**Blender object file import-export options.**

Roxie 1 and Roxie 1.1 are different object files to get the polygon lashes.

A head morph for Roxie1 will not work with Roxie 1.1
The faceroomfiles are also different.

If you want to sculpt Roxie1.1 it is best done in Blender.

Load the Roxie 1.1 object file in Blender and sculpt as much as you like.
File Import object file, use the above settings.

Then export that object file from Blender (again using the above settings) and import it in Poser as a FBM.

if you only morphed or need the head?
Goto the properties palette.
Click the little arrow behind => Delete morph.
A pop up will come and delete all, only leave the head.

This is an example of a FBM for Roxie1.1.

These import options let you load an opbject file as a single object file.
There are other options, but then you get all the groups at import and selection becomes a mess.
Anyhow, these settings work. That is the most important.
Been doing it for some months now.

The DEV rig didn't get updated to 1.1 for some reason; someone should probably report it to SM.

If you have PP2014 the morph transfer tool should work, although since the Face Room seems to alter the mesh rather than creating  a morph, you will need to export the head and load it into a copy of Roxie 1.0 from a saved scene or the 1.0 DEV rig as a morph target .

You could also try using the morph brush to transfer the face to the 1.1 dev rig, but the lashes may be problematic.

Well, whatever I'm doing wrong, apparently I'm very good at it, cause I can't do squat right. I can't get a compltely  morph free Roxie 1.1 because there's always two or more morphs, usually somewhere in the head thaat I can't delete.

I did go back into the faceroom with Roxie 1.1 and make a new  face though, so I'm thinking maybe Im doing it wrong.. Maybe i should just do a texture for Roxie and people can make their own face in the face room. I don't know.

I think you are strugling with (and I do not have an answer for that one) :

  • Some morphs are driven by bones and some morphs are, well, morph driven.
And then you also have a ton of dependencies.
All very nice and working extremely well, untill you try to get rid of them. :-(

Sorry , but I have not yet tried to create a morph free face myself.

Okay with W and W's help, we finally got Gwen to load into the Roxie cr2. Just need to package it up I guess.

Anyway, thought I'd show how she looks next to Roxie. The other Black chick is named Shante, I changed Gwen's name from that. Anyway if you happen to notice a strong resemblance between Shante and Roxie, it's because she's Roxie's sister from another mother. Roxie's daddy was stepping out on her mom. No, not really. I just used Gwen's Mat texture on Roxie to see what she'd look like.

Not bad. The texture will obviously need some work but cool. One of the nice things about Rex and Roxie is how well they work in the face room. A capable ZBrush/Mudbox/3DCoat artist could take a morph from there and tweak it to the next level too. Lots of potential in these guys and I'm glad you're exploring using them.
