You also have to have min shading rate set well - like .2 to .5 is how I usually have it.

If you really don't intend to zoom in on the cloth, then you should reduce the resolution of the tile in some 2D editor so those individual threads get blurred.

I'm finding this is a better way to handle these Loom textures - having two or three different size tiles and skipping the procedural completely.

I am thinking about automating this so you can generate procedurals OR image tiles at the push of a button.

Here an example with MSR at 0.5

The moiré gets reduced with MSR 0.2, and it is better, but it is still there.

Only a single Infinite light in the scene.
And NO, Unfortunately, I can NOT render with Raytraced shadows.

Raytraced shadows and dynamic hair together in one scene makes Poser pp2014 "hang" at the end of a render with some buckets not released to screen.. (Reported)

Right so .5 is not how I have it when .5 doesn't work. I only have it at .5 if it works at .5. Try .2.

This is .2 and there is very little moire. At .1 there is none, but I understand that is extreme.

As I said, if you are going to routinely stay far from the cloth, convert it to a lower resolution tile that is a little blurred.

Will this suffice, BB? Each different color is a different mat zone. I can make more or less zones for you if you wish. It has princess seams, and (as you can see) a separate waistband. The skirt is a full circle skirt, so it will show the bias angles of cloth just as a real circle skirt will. You can slap a procedural or patterned texture on it, and it should look like it was cut off a bolt of fabric. I have not gone through the trouble of trying to align things in any way that would suggest pattern matching (As it would be pattern matching for a single pattern/scale and everything else would be off), but I have kept them upright so that you can use one-way patterned textures.

A big "thank you" to Ladonna, who gave me some silverware props to demonstrate BBMetal. I have been working on the metal set for a long time. An EZMat version is just the ticket to make it easy to apply.

This is my stainless steel - nice, but too clean. Now that I see it on a realistic prop, I feel it is necessary to make it have scratches. Hmmm..

By the way - the last bit of photorealism must come in postwork. Shaders cannot simulate the bright highlights bouncing around in a system of lenses and Poser's "camera" has nothing in it to cause it to behave like a real camera. So a little postwork is necessary to make the highlights glow properly as in a photo and also to tweak exposure level a little because re-rendering with more light over and over is just too tedious.

This Metall shader is fantastic. I agree, with some little little scratches like real silverware.

I'm practicing techniques using a couple scratch and stain maps I downloaded. Once I get the shader handling these correctly (almost there) I'll see about making the scratches and stains procedural.

My apologies for not being very active here lately.

I don't want to go into details, but my domestic life has recently been thrown into turmoil and, moreover, my body has recently decided to reject the long-term medication I've been using and my health is deteriorating rapidly. I'm expecting good news on both fronts soon, but right now things are pretty difficult.

Anyway ... an update:

I have two specific code additions I want to make to EZMat, and my intention is to get them in place by the end of next weekend.

At that point I shall provide a release candidate to beta testers.

While they're doing the final testing I shall produce the User Guide, Developer's Guide and EZMat API Reference documentation.

I guess a release target of mid to late March is on the cards, then.

I'm sorry it's taking so long to get to market, but I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait :-)

Thank you,
Snarly

I will.

I have visited wood many times over the years and each time I figure out some more about it. This time is no exception.

This is not my best wood grain pattern (it's actually pretty trivial) but what I'm experimenting with here is new for me:

  1. The planks are completely random in length and position

  2. The finish is more complex than just a simple blur. The blur varies with viewing angle. I had noticed this effect many times when I took pictures of things that are glazed.

I have no idea how you're doing that, but to add to the debate... wood can be oiled or sealed with an acrylic. Both give different wear patterns. Scratches in a clear layer over the top of the wood for a used acrylic? Wear patterns are an issue then... masks?

The 'lint' on your fabric (BBLoom?) might be a starting point for wear on an oiled wooden floor? Certainly be a possible dust layer...
