DAZ|Studio F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 05 6:14 pm)
The GenX-Plugin is required to transfer morphs or characters from V4 to Genesis1.
The GenX-Update to transfer morphs/characters to Genesis2 is not released yet. But is anounced at the DAZ-Forum to be released soon.
To answer your question spefically, applying the V4-Shape to your Genesis2-Female is all you can do. There is no short way to dial in a character designed for the V4-Base-Figure.
What I'm really asking (after some self-clarification) is this:
There are new figures released all the time or sold here or at DAZ that require the base figure of another model - like V4, Michael, or whatever.
So the question is if I actually need those original characters in order to make use of the "new" character that requires those older base characters as a base, OR can I use the morphing products from DAZ that morph Genesis or Genesis 2 into the older versions, and then work from there.
My guess is that I need the original characters because when I've inadvertently tried to apply a character to a base I didn't have (hit the buy button without reading the full description), I get the error message that I don't have the required base character. As such, I don't guess the newer model "know" that the V4 character (as an example) is really just a Genesis morph, and the new character wouldn't load.
I just want to know for sure.
There are the Generation4 Base Figures V4 and M4.
There is the Generation5 Base Figure called Genesis.
There are the Generation6 Base Figures called Genesis2-Female and Genesis2-Male.
V5 and M5 are not Base Figures, these are just Morphs/Characters for the Genesis Base.
V6 is not a base figure, just a morph for Genesis2-Female. M6 is not a base figure, just a morph for Genesis2-Male.
As an example, if you buy Victoria 6, you don´t need Victoria 4 or Victoria 5. You only need the Genesis2-Female Base Figure, because its just a Morph/Character for Genesis2-Female. Same thing for Gia, Olympia, Girl6 and Stephanie6 these Characters only require the Genesis2 Female Base!
For Michael 6 you only need the Genesis2-Male Base Figure. You dont need Michael 4 or Michael 5.
As a DAZ Studio 4 User you will find the Genesis Starter Essentials and the Genesis2 Starter Essentials in your Product Library. All three Base Figures are included in DAZ Studio4.
As I´m writing this , I recognize that it might be really a bit confusing ... :-)
(Quick Necro)
Dritter...I have been out of the game for just close on 4 years, so you can imagine my initial WTF!?!?!? when I start looking into the latest models heh.
Glad I stumbled upon this thread as it is similar to what I was wanting to know. I see Genesis (1) seems to have come and gone with little support or products and Genesis (2) now seems to be being pushed.
From what you say above, the 'base genesis' comes with Daz Studio correct? And this is needed for any of the Gen 2 models to work. Yet I'm seeing Genesis 2 Female(s) Morphs, Genesis Evolution Morphs and the like. So what the hell are these and are they really required?
Now primarily I am a Poser user, and have been reading about DSON. How does this work in relation to importing to poser, in terms of say, I wanted to use V6 in Poser, how would I get the 'base genesis 2' to import over also?
Finally (Sorry), Tried to download the latest Daz Studio to find that I can only download it using the Daz Install Manager, is there now ay to download it manually? (I hate not having control and having to install separate programs/apps just to install what I originally wanted to).
Many thanks.
You don’t need the Genesis1 Figure (=Generation5) to work with the Genesis2 Figures (=Generation6). Each Genesis Figure is independent!
The Genesis Figure (Genesis1) is an androgynous Base Figure for all Generation 5 Characters. With Genesis2 (Generation6) comes the gender split again. So there is a Female and a Male Base. Like it was before Genesis1 with V4 and M4. But now the Base Figures are simply called Genesis2 Female (G2F) and Genesis2 Male (G2M).
The >Genesis Evolution Morphs< and the >Genesis2 Head/Body Morphs< are like the Victoria++ and Michael++ Morph Packages. These Morphs adding more variety to your base figures. Some additional characters will require those morphs but some do not … like it was with Victoria++/Michael++.
I agree, the whole thing is a bit confusing and you have to read the product description carefully to know what exactly is required.
I assume you have an account at DAZ3D? DAZ Studio 4 is free software but only available with registration and purchase for 0,00$. :-) ... so you need to put it in your shoping card and go through the check out process!
If you are logged in to your DAZ-Account, in your product library, there you find both Download Versions. One for manual installation (.exe-File) and one for the DIM. On the bottom of that page you will also find the links to the Genesis Base figures.
I would post a screenshot but I´m not at home. Later this day I will catch up …
As far as DSON goes, I´m just playing around with DAZ Studio. I don´t know anything about the DSON and how it works. Maybe someone else can step in here?
I´m glad you found it!
A further suggestion, at the DAZStudio4 library you will find a folder called >Scene Builder<. These are a few >ReadyToRender<-Scenes. These scenes might be helpfull to get a grip how things work. Take a look at youtube you will find a tutorial made by DAZ to every scene. Just search for the name like >Fiery Genesis< or whatever the other scenes are named ...
Have fun with Genesis! But be careful, you might get addicted like I am ... :-)
In answer to boundless,
Yes you can use those charaters with genesis to some degree.

I should totally know this after all the money I've spent on models, figures, etc. for DAZ, but I'm really not clear.
If a product has a V4 base requirement, for example, I'm clear that if I actually own V4, I'm good to go.
But with the advent of Genesis and Genesis 2 figures, we're able to basically morph them into a V4 character ( as well as earlier versions of The Girl, and many others).
Does that mean that we could use products designed for V4 (or whatever) if we use these morphs for Genesis to recreate that character?
Hope the question is making sense...but there are a few products that I have interest in that I don't have the actual base character for, but CAN morph INTO with Genesis 2 with morphs designed to do that.
Thanks,
Bob
