Perhaps switching off gamma correction on your renders may avoid this or at least bring an improvement?

If I use photometric I have to change how I treat my daz characters which I bring in as OBJs. I always make changes, but now I have to redo how I do it. I won't use photometric because of that. It didn't seem to improve my landscapes noticably enough to warrant all the work.

In the atmosphere editor you can change the atmosphere model to photometric, but only in Vue 2014.

Ok. I don't have that version. I can only imagine though that Vue's atmosphere/camera gamma no longer ignores the diffuse gamma for objects, which it always did before. So it's probably a gamma setting that didn't need looking at in previous Vue versions.

Perhaps an image showing us the problem would help :) We're all guessing now.
