file_503203.jpg

Hi, everyone.  My latest model is a simple necklace/jewelry *display bust* for showing off your necklaces, pendants, jewelry, or other items.  This model is built entirely of quad polygons, and subdivisional modeling techniques, and consists of only **1,728** polygons, and 1,730 vertices, which makes it ideal for almost any CG requirement.  The model has been UV unwrapped, and comes complete with **diffuse**, **specular**, **gloss**, and **bump** maps.  I have also included a base UV Template, in case you decide to create your own textures, but I recommend using just any seamless, procedural material in place of the given textures.  Each texture map provided was created to **2048x2048**, which should be suitable for most close-up rendering.  All of the preview renders were created with the exact texture maps provided, in the Octane render engine.

The model is available as in several scale-specific OBJ files, for use in other applications, like Blender, Poser, or Daz Studio.  Most OBJ users will need to load the reflection and glossy maps manually in their software, as the export/import options of the OBJ will not automatically load them with the model.  *******OBJ Users, please refer to the instructions below for specific direction on how to load this model into your scenes.  The model is also available as a native 3dsmax scene file, compatible with all versions of 3dsmax 2010 and up.  The .max version is awaiting approval in freestuff, but can be obtained now from the alternate download locations.

You can also download this model, and view more production renders and wireframes, at the following resource locations:

Turbosquid.com
ShareCG.com

You are free to use or modify this model as you see fit for your own projects or scenes. As with all my freebies, this model can be used for both commercial and non-commercial renders. You may NOT, however, resell or redistribute these models or textures, or any derivative of them; individually, or as part of a package/set.

******* OBJ USERS: There are 3 different OBJ files, and one MTL file for this model.  You will notice that two of the three OBJ files are labeled for specific applications (Poser and Blender).  It's recommended to use these in the specific application.  POSER USERS:  The OBJ with (POSER) suffix was exported with a scale conversion that will allow the object to load with appropriate scaling into Poser 9 and above, or Daz Studio 4 and above, with Poser import settings. To import this file into Poser, please BE SURE to DE-select all the check box options in the OBJ Import Options dialogue box. DESELECT the "Centered", "Place On Floor", "Percent of Standard Figure Size", etc. so that no options are checked.  This will import the object exactly as intended into the scene, with proper scaling.  DAZ STUDIO users: Select "File/Import", then navigate to the folder on your hard drive that contains the model in this pack.  Choose the "(POSER).obj".  In the Import Options dialogue box, pick the Poser (1unit=8ft) option in the "FROM" dropdown list.  Be sure all other options are checked, and click "Accept".  BLENDER USERS:  Select the "(BLENDER).obj".  All other software packages should import the standard "(STANDARD).obj".

As always, if you have any questions or comments regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, either here by PM, or email.  Thank you!

I got this using jancory's corals from freestuff.  used texmaps supplied with obj, however it came out jet-black (IDL, 8 bounces).

changed it to this.

@Miss Nancy,

Not sure why it turned out so dark in the first one.  Do you have the ability to increase the gamma on the texture in your materials?  If you open the diffuse map in Photoshop or similar, you will see that it is indeed a dark black color, with some worn edges which are lighter.  It shouldn't render jet black, as in my preview examples using the same maps provided, but different engines handle color maps differently, and some may require color correction of the map (gamma, exposure, etc) either internally, or in an image editor.

I like both of your renders, but the second one is really good, even without the diffuse map.  You can always just use any procedural material, so long as it's seamless, in place of the textures I provided.  Great work!

o.k., here's final one using all maps excepting diffuse.  initial attempt to drape chain not entirely successful :crying:

Mr. T would love that chain!  That's a very nice gold material there.

I don't know how Poser's materials or lights actually work; I've never actually used the application on my own.  However, one thing I recommend, in typical render scenerios, is to use the specular map as the reflection control map (if you're using HDR lighting and environment), and use the glossy map in whatever channel controls your reflection blurriness or clarity.  The gloss map is actually intended to control areas of the surface where reflections become more or less clear (glossy), due to environmental factors like smudges, scratches, dust, etc etc.  Using it as the actual reflection "level" map may, or may not, provide optimal results.  Of course, you can do whatever you like, if the results are acceptable.  I think your render looks fine, and it works in this case, but just wanted to mention that about the maps, in case you didn't already know.

o.k., thx fr info, luxx.  poser reflection node has softness channel.  0 (black) = no softness, whilst 1 (white) = alotta softness, but can go higher than 1, implying I would invert your glossy map.  can then use fresnel shader with {reflection, specular} and diffuse nodes as inputs to fresnel blend node.  if using shader in above img with diffuse channel, would have to violate fresnel's law.

T would dig it - doubles as knuckle-duster 🤣

Great work!  I think you totally nailed the shader and textures for the bust in this one. Very good result on shaping the chain to it as well.
