Subject: Is it possible to save a pose for a prop?

jjroland ( ) posted Thu, 03 April 2014 at 12:41 PM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 3:30 PM

If I want to save an alternative location for a prop in a scene - is it possible to do this with a pz2?  I've tried all the ways familiar to me for saving a pose, it's not working.

I've tried just editing a pz2 to include the info I want.  Doesn't work.  I tried with very little success to find props I already own where there are alternative poses for them. Even so, editing those pz2s did not give me any success.

Any info on this is appreciated.

Oh and I'm using pp2012.  It appears there is a utility that will save it from DS for Poser, but I'm not having luck editing those .pz2s either and found after purchasing the utility that it does not work from poser.

Hi jj,

Adjust the prop how you want it  ... and then ...

Try saving the prop using a different name, yes, no, maybe? :huh:

P.S. Sorry, I don't have PP2012 so I can't test it ... maybe someone else can try this method. 😄

I'm not quite sure what you're asking for. Are you asking about saving a prop in a particular space so that it will load there every time?  Are you talking about parenting it to someone holding it?

That would work if it was for my own personal use.  But I want to share this pose and it's not my prop to start with.

Poser writer seems to save it.  Only it behaves wierd.  You apply the pose, and the parameters dials SAY it has worked.  Only nothing changes until I move something else in the scene.

Very odd.

Just so you know the answer is yes to both of those, but I do need you to clarify what you want.

You can parent a prop to a figure and save it as a smart prop.

jjroland ( ) posted Thu, 03 April 2014 at 1:35 PM

I don't want to parent the prop to a figure.  or save it as a smart prop.

I want to have a pz2 that changes it's location in a scene.  Like if I had a chair and I wanted it next to a door, or in another room.  I would like to create a pose for it, to change its position.

(when I posted last there was only one response, so I apologize that I didn't address the other comments in that)

I have successfully used Poser writer panel to save the pose.  But it's still behaving strangely in that I have to actually move something else in the scene before the pose applies.

try something like this (in this case the poser ball prop), your x,y,z values will vary:

{
version
    {
    number 6
    }

actor ball_1
    {
    channels
        {
        translateX xTran
            {
            keys
                {
                k  0  0.391769587994
                }
            }
        translateY yTran
            {
            keys
                {
                k  0  0.553652107716
                }
            }
        translateZ zTran
            {
            keys
                {
                k  0  -0.0585827827454
                }
            }
        }
    }

figure
    {
    }
}

and remember that there must be a figure in the scene for a pz2 file to work on a prop

Do you want to parent the prop to another prop then?

WARK!
