I use- trying to use- Poser Pro 2014. How can I get M3's beard less transparent and fuller- more like it's unrendered look?

Medzinatar ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2014 at 8:14 PM

change gamma on transmaps to 1.0

Uh, what Gamma?

Click on the texture name in the node you have outlined, then in the box that comes up set the gamma to one.

According to your setting you have the beard completely transparent. Set the transparency to either 1 or 0.9, then set your transparency edge to a setting between 0.1 and 0.9... Your transparency fall off should be set to 0.5 or 0.6 ...  My numbers are just suggestion but you really should have your transparency setting no greater than 1.

I have M3 beard and my mat room setting is 1 for transparency, 0.7 for the transparency edge and 0.6 for the transparency fall off. Ray tray is enabled in the render setting. Hope this helps.

Also change the filtering on the texture & trans maps to "crisp" on all the materials. You'll notice a difference.

If you really want to get fancy, I plug the trans maps into the bump map channels. Play with the strengths depending on your focus length. It can really help make the beard "pop".

Poser Display Units = inches.

Gamma is at 1.0

Transparency is at 0.9

Transparency edge is at 0.7

Transparenct fall off is at 0.6

And it's still not what it should be.

Do you have the gamma set to 1 on all transparency maps of of the materials of the beard?  There is a script on the Scripts menu that can change it all for you easily; under Material Mods you will find ChangeGamma.  Select the beard, run the script, and enter the the value 1.0, select current figure on the next menu and all of the above on the last menu....

Both the texture map and the trans map are both set to 1 on the gamma setting. I may have to run the sc ript to get it to take effect. Unfortunately, the comp is going inthe shop tomorrow and I won't have it back till Friday. I'm trying to come up with an answer that will prevent 2014 from crashing every few sec onds. It took me 6 tries to get this latest test rendered.

You don't want the texture maps set at 1, just the trans maps (and bump maps if any).  Texture maps should be set to get the value from render settings.....

OKay. I misunderstood. I'll fix that when I get the comp back on Friday.

Here's a quick render I did.  The skin is from DAZ' Men of the Year with EZSkin shader, render GC at 2.2 and no IDL, and the lighting is the default PP2014 lights.   I loaded the beard, (no, Vicky is NOT his beard!  ) applied the dark colour MAT pose, applied the Full A-01 MAT pose, and ran the ChangeGamma script as noted above.  I then set the texture filtering to crisp using Snarly's SceneFixer.

SceneFixer, EZSkin and other cool stuff can be dowloaded here...

Okay. The comp's in the shop now. I'll try this when I get it back.
