Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:44 pm)
Hello kyraia
I see you say it is Blender 2.70 on Windows 7 are you on a PC or laptop? I know that may not make sense but sometimes with Laptops you need to make a few tweaks with in the User Prefrences to get Blender to behave as if on a PC. Second did you download from Blender.org or graphicall.org reason I ask most of the Blender releases on graphicall.org are builds that have sometimes extra options that are still in a sort of beta that are not full release canidates. Did you try redowloading the latest release again from Blender.org and uninstalling the one you have currently and reinstalling a fresh copy it does happen sometimes that Blender can become corruptand needs to be reinstalled. You can also check for potential errors in the System Console which you can make visible by going to Window(along the top menu) >Toggle System Console and it will bring up what looks like a command prompt window that will list if there are any error that Blender might be experincing. If there are errors we might find those useful to try and further help you with your issue.

I never run Blender from an exe file, instead downloading it as a zip and extracting to a folder. I then pin the blender exe file to my start menu. I have read somewhere before to do this, and can't remember the reason why. Regardless, it always works well for me. What Lobo says makes sense. I usually find that if I am having these issues it is because my settings are for a trackball instead of a 3-button mouse. A good hint is to get Blender working as you want it to and then when opening a newer version import the settings. That alone has saved me a lot of grief. I have limited vision, and alway use the Blender 2.4 interface theme from presets because it is much brighter and easier to read. I have just had a very powerful computer built for me that makes a great deal of difference in Blender performance. With 32 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro K2000 vid card, it makes all the difference in the world. It runs Win 7 - after the horrible experiences I have had working with Win 8.1 on my wife's desktop and tablet, I am glad I opted for Win 7. At 70 years of age, I am thinking this computer should last me for the rest of my life. My thanks to Lobo for the info on the two different sites to download Blender from...
C~
I am glad some of my info help. I run both a 32bit and 64bit versions of Blender one as an exe and the second from zip since I have a few addons that will not work at all in the 64bit version. I have found many of the version of Blender on graphicall.org to be user compiled versions that have many bells and whistles that are still in the Blender development pipeline but unless your system specifically meets the same as the user who has uploaded their compiled version doesn't always play nice so I tend to stick to the releases from Blender.org. I have also heard many complaints about Windows 8 and Blender one reason even when i upgrade my current system it will still be a Windows 7 machine dual booting into Linux. One of our very knowledgable members in this forumRobynsVeil has pointed out many benfits in using Blender within a Linux enviorment. Kyraia if ti is a PC issue then I would suggest making sure your graphic cards drivers are up to date that in my experince has been the cuase of 75% of any Blender problems I have had in the past when it is PC related.

Hello,
today I am trying Blender (version 2.70 on Windows 7) for the first time, but the user interface turns out to be almost unusable because every input lags behind by one.
I'll try to explain:
For example on the left side there are tabs to access various sub-menues (Tools Create Relations Animation ...). When I left-click one of them nothing happens. It opens only if I click a second time or if I press Enter and move the mouse a little bit after the first click.
If I click on the menues in the top bar (File Render Windows Help) again nothing happens. The menu opens only if I move the mouse after clicking.
There are data fields where I can enter numbers but they don't display correctly. There is always one input missing. If the old value is 1 and I enter 2 it still shows 1. The 2 appears only after I press Enter or I input more values (like 2.5) but in this case it doesn't display 2.5 but only 2. The 5 is missing. So I never know which value is actually valid.
This weird behaviour happens everywhere in the user interface and makes it very hard to use. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?
Thanks so far,
Kyraia
