It's world cup time again.  I'm not a huge fan of the sport but I've been watching the games and mostly enjoying them.

  1. So who are you all rooting for?

  2. Who do you all think will be the last two teams?

  3. Also, who do you all think has the best color uniforms?

As for me:

1.  USA, followed by the Netherlands and Japan

2.  Netherlands vs Brazil will be the last match up, unless seeding screws that up.  I don't think a matchup of the last one will repeat (spain looked bad). Brazil looked good for the opening match and the Netherlands look strong as well.

Team USA's german coach openly admitted they aren't going all the way.  Ghana will knock us out for the 3rd time in a row, they have our number.  And Japan's club is too small to survive a physical match up.

3.  See number 1.  I'm root for teams who I like the uniforms for.  ;)

WARK!

The last 2? ?

The ref and the ball.

Must be a good ball too. They have been kicking it as hell, ans still no dents.
Or they are doing a bloody bad job at it.

Foolish sport too; Running like mad to get to the ball, and when they finally have it? ?
They kick it away? ?  Who can understand THAT....

And when they finally get in in some net?
They take it out and start all over again?

Crazy stuff, crazy stuff . . . LOL.

Sorry to be a party pooper as well but I don't really care most of the team sports either.  If others enjoy it, great, but it's not really on my radar.

Now, even saying all of that, I do find it enjoyable to see games in person at the times that I have gone.  There's something to be said for being there rather than watching it on a screen, which I find beyond boring.

orange orange orange. Either our soccer team will be in the finals, or our referee-team will. We won't have both :-)

anyway,

yesterday, the hockey girls won their World Championship over Autralia.

today, the hockey guys will win their World Championship over Australia.

wednesday, our soccer guys will win over Autralia.

So I guess we won't be welcome to Down Under for some time :-)

have fun!

I have to agree, not much into team sports but if people find it entertaining then fine.  What annoys me is when people take it for granted that everyone thinks the same way with statments like "everyone in the country is behind you".  It doesn't matter what sport it is, there is a body of people who are not the slightest bit interested in the results.

That said, at least I regard football as a sport, don't get me started on Darts.

I'm for the Netherlands since I'm half Dutch and live there at present, so I'm hoping for them to finally be world champion for one. I always like USA and Australia as well. Not because they're so good, but because they're always working so hard, while other teams get lazy at times. Since I'm half American as well, I always follow and support them.... hoping that the Netherlands doesn't have to play against USA :)

I don't think Brazil looked good at all in their first match. Without the help of the referee they would have never won. I've watched 5 games by now and I'm surprised how bad these referees are. They do make very biased calls throughout the match and at times they make horrible decisions favouring the team they've been biased to the whole match even more. There have been at least 2 matched where the outcome has been decided by the referee and not the players. My son thinks that some of them have been bribed :) The referees are annoying, but some of the soccer is fun to watch.

I find it interesting that this time around some UK companies/advertisers are saying they won't be running any football based promotions or running only short term ones. It's because they've found customers see the English team as something that will never win, or will go out of the competition quickly, ergo any brand attached to that team isn't that hot. Plus despite the media hype a large part of the population has zero interest in football and will overtly not to buy any associated products. Personally I'm with hornet on the whole benefits of sport thing, especially when it comes to gym membership. I've got friends who'll drive there and spend 40 minutes on a treadmill! A kick around in the park with the kids or a nice walk in the countryside will keep most people fit enough, better still with the latter if theres an old country pub at the end:)

At least the large supermarket-chains fight wars over it. Now let's wait till the temperatures go up (or we are kicked out, whatever comes first).

I'm English, so you'd think I'd find football gripping. It's actually taken me a while to start enjoying the game, but since hubby watches all the games, I've started taking an interest again.

I was a hockey fanatic for a few years, but I found the inconsistent refereeing infuriating. Though, I admit, it might just have been the inconsistency of the local team that annoyed me the most. ;)

Great thing about football, though, is that the players aren't hidden away in bulky armor, and most of them are extremely fit and very nicely tanned. My only complaint is that, like most outfits for men, the uniforms cover more and more skin every year. 30 years ago you'd actually get to see some fine pairs of legs on the field. (Chile has a very sexy roster.)

Edit: Oh, and I adore Lionel Messi, so it's Argentina all the way! :D

Football is the sport, more, more, more, more, more popular in the WORLD!
It is a sport that stopped World War II during his departure.
and is a "cheap" sport ... I mean cheap only in the fact anyone can play!
A ball is cheap! Still if you do not have a ball, you just get an empty bag and fill it with cloth / fabric, then tie the ends of the bag ... And voila, here is a ball to play with your friends, and family / relatives etc..
Even a stone can be ready to kick a ball ... An empty beer can, an empty shoebox ... Who does not this always kicking something?
This sport is in the vein!
Now ... Not everyone can buy a bicycle for sport, how much does a tennis racquet?
Only a few moneyed can buy jeeps for fun on trails of mud ... and so on will ...
But football everyone can play! And the ball ... Anything turns into a ball ready to be kicked (not grenade, not).

UK has not a national soccer team at the World Cup or European Cup. Such a national team existed only for the Olympic Games (but only until 1972, however it was resumed in 2012) where no one cares for soccer.

Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England all have their own team. UK is the only country in the world which can send four national teams to the World Cup due to the history of their teams.

Scotland did qualify the last time in 1998 for the World Cup, Northern Ireland in 1986, and Wales in 1958. But they all had a little bit more luck at the European Cup. England's team is the most successful of them.

I wonder how UK would fare if they combine all their efforts for ONE national team.

dude, it's unbelievable, Brazil lost the World Cup.
It seemed that the Brazilian players were bewitched, seemed hypnotized, ran from one side to the other without knowing what to do.
You could say that the Germans alone played the game today.
I'm shocked (The Brazil is in shock)
But the sport is that, the team that wins this better prepared, estrategic
This gives a pain to say but: the selection of Germany deserved to win, they played alone, the Brazilian team was just running behind them

I did not see Brazil in the finale but neither Germany. I'm really surprised that Germany kicked them off with this result. Brazil obviously relied too much on Neymar during the World Cup. We'll see whether the Netherlands or Argentina will join us. On the first page I thought Italy and Argentina would be the two last teams. Since I was so wrong about Italy I hope now that the Oranje team will follow us - still like their orange uniform the most.

Quote - Brazil - Germany 1:7

I did not see Brazil in the finale but neither Germany. I'm really surprised that Germany kicked them off with this result. Brazil obviously relied too much on Neymar during the World Cup. We'll see whether the Netherlands or Argentina will join us. On the first page I thought Italy and Argentina would be the two last teams. Since I was so wrong about Italy I hope now that the Oranje team will follow us - still like their orange uniform the most.

But the danger of Germany, this in midfield, the whole world saw it in previous games, only the coach of our national team did not see it. He did not put the defense of midfield.
The coach will rule in a few moments ... In prior he takes the blame for the defeat.
