Subject: Genesis 2 - what does it take to make it "work"?

sandman_max ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2014 at 7:53 PM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 3:39 AM

I see Genesis 2 characters over at DAZ - Victoria 6, Giselle 6, Stephanie 6, etc and now Aiko 6.  And they all say they are compatible with Genesis 2 Female.  But I can't find such a figure.  What is the minimum "stuff" I need to get started with Aiko 6/Victoria 6/Genesis2?  Just the base packs?  Do she come with everything?  I'm sure there's a morph pack I need, right?

Razor42 ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2014 at 8:17 PM

Genesis 2 Female is availble for free and is available to download from Dim or your account at the Daz Site.

A6, V6 are morphs built on the G2F female base which is generally the only requirement.

Each level of pack has more content from a starter pack which will generally included the base figure morph, some skins and some poses right up to the pro pack which will contatin a number of products and are the only pack that include genitals.

The base Genesis 2 Female comes in the Starter Essentials pack that comes free with DAZ Studio 4.6.x. Victoria 6, Olympia 6, Aiko 6, etc. are all "morphs" of the Genesis 2 Female. The afore mentioned figures don't need anything other than the free Genesis 2 Female. Other figures often require the Genesis 2 Female(s) Morph Bundle, and sometimes one of the other morphs like V6.

Hope this helps and I didn't just confuse you even more.

Darn - Razor42 beat me to the post, going to have to type faster.

nope this makes sense. Thanks y'all.

Ok - I found Gen2 in the download for DS4.6.  I'm still on DS4.5. Do I need to upgrade Genesis, also, to use it 4.6?  I'm actually quite happy with things the way Genesis things are (in my runtime, that is).  Genesis is working perfectly in Poser Pro, so I don't really want to muck that up.  And from my experience, upgrading Daz Studio tends to break thingsfor a while until everything gets sorted back out.  That's why I waited to upgrade.

DustRider ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2014 at 5:56 PM

To easily use Genesis 2, you'll need to upgrade to 4.6 (see here for more info). the initial upgrade to 4.6 was pretty painless for me, but I haven't upgraded to the latest version yet, due to the new CMS not being compatible with Carrara.

If you upgrade Daz Studio your previous 'libraries' that you had before upgrading should still be the same. The new difference would be that you have another figure 'Genesis 2 Female' and if you download the Genesis 2 male starter essentials you will have that as well. You can even create a new 'library' for the Genesis 2 figures, have Dim download genesis 2 items to that new library. Plus Genesis 1 content will work with Genesis 2 figures. And with a few other purchasable products you can use V4 and M4 content with Genesis 2 figures. There is also Genesis 2 figure clones that will allow you to use Genesis 2 items on Genesis 1.

That works for me.  I'm already getting Gen 2 figures put in My Library (just because I bought something for both V4 and Gen 2).  They all seem to be co-habitating peacefully.  I know about the clone packs.  I bought all the legacy figures for Genesis but I found that I'm not using V3/M3 anymore for anything, and when I want V4, I just use V4.  It helps that I have two different weight mapping systems for her and all the Perfect Fixes. But then there's Michael5.  I am totally in love with M5.  Not abandonning him anytime soon.

What about UV maps?  It looks like Gen 2 uses the same UV maps as Genesis but that was just eyeballing a couple of them.

There is a product that allows you to use Generation 4 textures on Genesis 2 family. You would need the V4 and M4 shapes package and skins auto converter.

V6 can use V5 uvs. Manyof the texture artists who create textures for Genesis 2 female use V5 uvs which means the textures work on Genesis 1 also

You do not need to upgrade CMS to upgrade to the latest DS. The new DS still works with Valentina.

You can use the lagacy morphs to morph Genesis to those figures shapes, but the lagacy shapes; in my opinon, are far more usefull for the autofit clones. With some tap dancing I can get V3 clothes on to G2F and fit reasonably well; as well as autofit can make them fit lol, with out the mil4/3 legacy shapes for G2F/M. Although I do have the V4/M4 legacy shapes for G2F/M on my wish list; mostly because they have clothing fixes.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 4:21 PM

G2F has the Victoria 5 UVs as a default, as well as additional UVs with the "name" characters. If you want to use V4 maps you will need the Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 female product, as MS says.

sandman_max ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 6:09 AM

that's weird. I did a test With Genesis 2 female and used Mec4D's UV mapping script  to map it to v4 and the texture work just fine. that Was in poser by the way

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 10:05 AM

Do you have Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female?

sandman_max ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 4:25 PM

My bad... I was working with Genesis and I have the V4 clone.

sandman_max ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 4:30 PM

I found another key ingredient to making Genesis 2 work, if you're just getting started.  Platinum Club membership.  The $39.95 price tag for V6 base is on sale for $19.95 and when I re-joined PC, it dropped to $13.98.  And it works fantastically well in PP2014.

sandman_max ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 6:14 PM

Ok - back to questions.  I thought somebody said that the Genesis morphs work with Genesis 2 but that's kind of confusing me.  All the morphs for Genesis show up in the Actor and I just dial them in.  How would they work for Genesis 2?

fictionalbookshelf ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 7:54 PM

One way would be to buy Genx and Genx2 add on.

There are several how to's in the Daz forums for using the transfer utility under edit-object-transfer utility.

Yes, but wouldn't it be much cheaper and easier to just buy the morphs for G2F/M?

sandman_max ( ) posted Thu, 26 June 2014 at 8:14 PM

But if we didn't go through all this,  then we wouldn't appreciate our vendors as much.  Every time I load up clothing for another character and try to turn it into dynamic clothing (cuz it doesn't fit), I end up buying something new, because,  well,  yes,  it's a whole lot easier.

sandman_max ( ) posted Thu, 26 June 2014 at 9:02 PM

Actually, I did buy GenX for Genesis.  And hardly ever used it.  I just never really saw the need to turn Genesis into a legacy character.  Turning Genesis into really cool characters of my own - YES!  Totally.  And I have a rather large gene-pool that I hate to waste (or buy over again).

manleystanley ( ) posted Fri, 27 June 2014 at 7:01 AM

Well carrara can't turn conforming clothes in to dynamic clothes, but you can use the soft body physics to drape the clothes ;)

Just saying lol

sandman_max ( ) posted Fri, 27 June 2014 at 5:31 PM

Oops.  I forgot to say that I was using Poser Pro 2014's cloth room for dynamics.  Or trying to...

sandman_max ( ) posted Fri, 27 June 2014 at 8:27 PM

Whoo hoo!!  I got a V4 dress fitted onto Aiko 6 in Daz Studio.  Saved it as a Scene (which is a DUF file).  Imported it into PP2014 with the DSON loader.  It fits like a glove, poses perfectly, like it's on a real body (with a few glitches if you get crazy with the poses but the morph brush can take care of minor issues).  Applied Poser textures and rendered.  No spending hours trying to get clothes to fit.  It does seem that the dress is melded with the character.  Grab the skirt to move it and her leg moves.  But all said and done, this is pretty wonderful!

Thanks everybody!
