Subject: Need help installing content.

I just got the Poser Bundle from SmithMicro and I'm having issues installing it. According to the Poser User Manual, the default install file is the Poser Downloads file. However, for some reason, it's installing Miki4 and Tyler into the Users file on the HD. Also, how do I add things to Runtime, such as clothing and such. I also have some G2 figures in the bundle. How would I add them to Poser? It's a little confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would expect it to go to C: > Users > public > public documents > Poser Pro 2014 Content > Downloads.

Don't put it into the Runtime which is within the Poser folder in Program Files.  The User Account Control feature of Windows Vista and later will deflect attempts to modify anything within Program Files.  This feature helps protect you against malware attacks.

I forgot to mention that I'm using Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks. Sorry about that. What should I do?

Okay. Figured out how to get Mki4 and Tyler to install properly. Now I'm wondering how to add the G2 figures and the other items such as Animals and Forest bundle and so on. The unzipped folders say "Runtime" and have files such as Libraries, ReadMe, Templates and Textures. Where would I place these files?

Still haven't gotten Miki4 to install properly. It defaults to Users/Shared/Miki4. How do I get it to load into the Poser content section. This is driving me crazy. Using Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks.

I've tried a couple of different things but it's still not loading properly. I thought I had it installed but when I went to load the figure in the pose window, it wouldn't open properly. It didn't have any of the skin textures. I'm really getting frustrated with this. I wish they would make it easier to load this stuff. Help!

Did you link the Miki4 folder to Poser?

2436mm ( ) posted Sat, 21 June 2014 at 8:13 PM

How do I do that? It was supposed to install into the Shared/User/Poser/Runtime folder but didn't. According to the Poser User Manual, the default is supposed to be the Poser Downloads folder.

ATM, the Poser manual is irrelevent; it is merely a suggestion on how to begin installation.  Many users do not install content in the recommended locations but create their own unique runtime folders and link them to Poser.  Those unique folders can be placed anywhere, even on separate external media.

The Share/User/Poser folder will contain contain 2 runtime folders, the second can found under Downloads.  However, your application folder will also contain 2 runtime folders similar to the folder found in Shared/User.  Confused?  Yep, this is confusing, and the purpose for creating a separate, shared folder for content is to offset security interference found in Windows.  I don't think this exists with MACs.  Now unless the Shared/User/Poser/runtime folder is the only folder on your hard drive, then we have a different issue.  I would check because I, myself, use Windows XP and Win7.

See illustration on how to add an external runtime folder.

I tried the "Add Library" method and it worked, so I'll unzip everything else and go that route. Most of the other stuff is G2 figures and their add ons and some animals and insects and such. If I have any more trouble, I'll let you know. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. I'm still on a bit of a learning curve with Poser so I can get a little frustrated some times.

Still having trouble. I unzipped some of the files and they open as Runtime files but won't load. They have four folders in them "Libraries", "ReadMe", "Templates" and "Textures". Do I have to just add the Libraries to Poser or everything? Annoying, to say the least.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 21 June 2014 at 10:24 PM

Does your MAC OS allow merging similarly named folders without overwriting their content?  I know the issue exists with older OS versions and the only solution for loading Poser content was to add them to the runtime manually as they appear in the zipped heirarchy.  However, I have heard mention of an application (ZipIt?) which can do that for you.

Mac OS doesn't have the file merge function. I used the Install From Zip Archive in the Content room. Things are a bit of a mess. I'm thinking of doing a clean re-install and start over and then bring everything in using the Zip Archive function.

Stuffit might be the program I was thinking about, but I think manually installing the content might be your best course.

StuffIt is what you're thinking of. The Install from Zip Archive seemed to work. That being said, I may re-install Poser and start over adding the content, since I seem to have things all over the place.
