Subject: Reality development update – 6/25/14

Hello.

A very quick update because I’m in the middle of a complex bit of code.

I just wanted to let you know that development is continuing at a furious pace. It’s actually exciting to see several new features, which I desired in Reality for quite some time, taking form and start working.

First of all, distribution and installation of material presets, aka ACSEL shaders, is going to be much simpler and cooler. If you are a maker of products for either Poser of DAZ Studio, and you want the thousands of Reality users to get the most out of your products, you should contact me asap. Developers of skins, environments, props, clothing etc will benefit greatly from the new system of distribution of Reality material presets. Please contact me using reality at preta3d dot com.

The other great bit of news is that I’m implementing a way of applying a set of shaders for a figure to another figure. Yep, you asked for it and you’re gonna get it! This means that, if you have an ACSEL shader set for a skin and you want to apply the same settings to another skin, you will be able to do that with a click. This will make the creation of new presets a breeze and it will save a ton of time. Reality is all about making you enjoy the creative part of your work, and with this new feature you will spend less time repeating the same tasks and more time on the creative, fun part.

That’s all for now, I’m gonna go back to the code. The more I code, the sooner this baby comes out :)

Stay tuned!

Paolo

Paolo ? You are also Amethst25?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I'm curious if it means we would also have sync across materials, for example, if I change the properties of the skin specular for the head, will it update the skin specular for the body to match?

Either way, it was good to hear about the upcoming features!

Hi.

While that might be a desirable feature for specific uses it's hardly useful in the general case. You want to be able to have distinct shaders for each material so, no, that is not the case but there are tons of new functionalities in the new ACSEL system that will make the job of setting materials as simple and enjoyable as possible. I'm also working on specific UI improvements to make copying of properties between materials easier and simpler.

Cheers.

I'm just getting around to installing, with the intention of (CPU-only) network rendering.  So, I install Reality only on controlling workstation(s), and install Lux on everything which will participate in rendering (workstations and render drones)?

My primary network is all 64bit, but my secondary network is mixed (some 64bit, some 32bit computers).  Does the Lux engine on all computers cooperating on a render need to agree in "bitness"?

*Thanks for the head-up, sounds interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
