Subject: Pose problems after deactivating IK

I've come across this problem before, but now it's really affecting my workflow. I'm working on a series of still images, each in a different key frame.

For some key frames I activate IK chains for the legs, while for other frames I deactivate it, however, sometimes when i deactivate the IK, the figure's feet get in a different position in the rest of the frames.

  • I'm using Victoria 4 weight mapped.

  • Limits are off

  • Tried locking the feet actors before deactivating IK, didn't help.

  • Using Poser Pro 2014 with latest SR.

I tried replicating the problem in a new scene, but it happens randomly. Perhaps I'm doing something regarding IK chains I'm not supposed to do, or I'm setting up key frames wrong.

Has anyone experienced this?

I set all key frames to "constant", also, there are no emtpy key frames, since this are still frames in sequence, I don't need interpolation.

IK's can be problematic with Posing as well as animations. I would encourage you use them when you need to (positioning the figure) but before you save the Pose/Animation you turn them Off.

Hi I am afraid you have belatedly discovered the bane of the poser animators existence.

The IK system of poser is broken
in the sense that it is an ALL or nothing
option.
If you turn on IK and set merely ONE keyframe with IK activated  poser will not let you forget that it was once on and will retroactively attempt to reapply
in later key frames after you have supposedly deactivated it

This is a long standing bug known since
poser 3 and SM seems to have Zero interest in addressing it directly as IK is an animation feature that does not seem to interest SM

So you will have to leave IK off and manually pose the feet
in relation to the floor etc........sorry

I was afraid that was the case. My current workaround is to save all key frames poses to the library (by saving it as an animation) before turning off IK, then re-applying the pose after, but sometimes I forget, especialy when working with simple poses and many characters at once, and I realize this after saving the scene... sad.

I'll put up a ticket FWIW.

But I'm still asking for the fixes that we need!

Hopefully, we are reaching a point where the animation controls are getting more important (with Poser being used in a successful web series, and the upcoming game developer version, the attention all the motion systems need will be highlighted).

Not holding the old breath, mind you, but still hoping......

I have been wrestling with IK-bugs since Poser 3 was the latest version, in single still shots.

This really is an annoying fault in the programming.

I do a lot of animations and find that when posing keyframes where I want a character to move his body but keep the feet where they were, I simply save the file, turn IK chains on and pose THAT SPECIFIC KEYFRAME, save the pose, and then reload the file I saved before turning IK on and then applying the newly saved pose to the keyframe.

Even this doesn't always work as Poser seems to always try to apply the most illogical interpolations it can dream up, but it usually works pretty well.  A few tweeks is all that's needed.
