Subject: Square Shadow in PP2014

I modeled some objects in Hexagon.  I brought them into Poser 2014 and when I do a test render I have a square shadow on the ground plane.  Just tested in P9, same thing.

The preview shows the correct shadow but once I render it's rectangular.

Anyone know what is happening here?

Yes it's a known bug with depth mapped shadows. SM has not shown any interest in fixing it.

I won't bother with details.

It happens if everything in your scene fits in a small bounding box (small being under 10 inches if I recall correctly).

Fixes:

Add another object that is more than 10 inches away.

Make your object bigger than 10 inches.

Use raytraced shadows.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

You are amazing!  Thank you.  I thought it was something to do with my models...whew.

You're welcome. You're not alone - many people making their first small prop (jewelry, insects, pens) encounter this bug and post here. So I'm not amazing - I just have a memory. grin

I did a search but did not find this exact problem.  That's why I worried that it was my props.  I thank your amazing memory then :)
