Subject: Can't view anything in RPublishing store

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2014 at 6:42 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 8:10 PM

Got an email about RPublishing's huge sale, clicked the link and I was greeted with no preview images.  I hit refresh and I get one or two loaded, but then others don't load.  I seem to be having a great deal of trouble getting products to open as well.  The entire page is slow to load... and come to think of it, getting to the forums here was a bit of a task, is there server maintainence going on or a backlog of people?  Never had an issue like this before.

Hi,

My apologies for the delayed response.

Are you still having this issue?  We did have some site issues yesterday, however I believe that they are all resolved at this time.

Please let me know if you are continuing to have issues and I will research a bit further.

Thank you and have a great day,

ShelbiE

Yep, still the same issue and now it's even worse.  It seems that most of the marketplace is affected, here's what I see when I look at RPublishing:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/psxyq56k74dc6eh/rosity.jpg

If I click on a product to open its page, I notice a lot images with broken links, mostly on advertisments for things on sale/related.  So far it's just this site I've had an issue with and it was only very recent.

StaceyG ( ) posted Wed, 23 July 2014 at 9:32 PM

What browser and version are you on as well as what operating system?

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2014 at 4:18 AM

Firefox31 (just had an update the other day, R'osity still wasn't working right before it too), Win7, 64bit.  The entire site just seems to be sluggish.  Seems to be right about the time there was another big change in the Marketplace.  I've not installed any other addons or anything web related in the past few months, so this is just very mysterious.

StaceyG ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2014 at 8:56 AM

Can you clear your cache and do a hard refresh and let us know if that works. Also do you have an adblock programs running as this will prevent the images from showing now.

If not, let me know and I'll get with the programmers for further help

Almost two weeks later after store relaunch and product previews still don't properly work. :( It's not my browser cache either. I've tested this in Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer, all of which use different caches. It's bad coding.  Sometimes the preview will work when right clicking and opening one in a separate tab. That's about 50% of the time. It makes shopping here really, really, really inconvenient.  When you have a cart of about 30 or so items and are planning a big purchase, but want to pick and choose particular items it makes one want to give up the process and go elsewhere.

Beta testing the website would have been ideal rather than releasing it with bugs. I know and appreciate many bugs have been fixed but this one is pretty annoying.... Not meaning to come off angry. Just trying to tell the truth as a customer who's trying to make purchases.

Kazam561 ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2014 at 9:34 AM

BTW what happens is the previews will hang forever trying to load. Not my browser, ad blocking, or my ISP.  On the opening the image with right click I do get an message when it fails. Next time it happens I will post the message.

Thanks for the details Kazam. The more details we can get the easier it is for the techs to isolate the issue:)

Will pass this along right now!!! (Well I "may" let him eat his lunch before having him look into this, heehee)

Looks like Kazam is onto something.

Yep, I had already done the shift-F5, cleared cache manually through options and yes, I do have an adblocker, but R'osity is one of the few sites that I allow because the ads aren't intrusive like some other sites (Youtube, what?)

I was going to try IE, like Kazam did, but it likes to hang randomly... even though I NEVER use it, so I couldn't test it on there.

I have a feeling by the time there's a fix, I'll have missed the huge sale.

**@**cujoe_da_man sounds like you have a Firefox 'Add-On' issue. We have had similar issues with extensions in Safari, due to marketing Ad-blockers. We get our images from S3 now which has 'Amazon' in the URL. Some out-of-date Add-Ons block these images, similar to how you described with your screenshot. Here's what I recommend trying and let me know if it works:

***1. Open Firefox ***

2. Click 'Tools' button in the top menu

3. Click 'Add-Ons' in the dropdown

4. Click 'Extensions'

***5. Turn all extensions OFF. ***

***6. Close the browser ('quit' process from the dock if on a Mac). ***

7. Reopen. If the problem is resolved, turn extension back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

**@**Kazam561 We have made a few tweaks, let us know if your issues have been resolved? If not please let me know where the issues are occurring, with URL's or screenshots.

Thanks!

Ok, I went through all of my addons, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.  However, I can't seem to open their page at all now, I doubt it's from your suggestion to disable addons, but just wanted to mention that.

I did get another saved page to open: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=75046 , but it's super slow to load and the promo images at the bottom show broken links, the promos to the right are ok.

What it almost feels like is the page isn't being cached and it's reloading from scratch, as if I had cleared the cache with shift-F5, because the images that do load will completely reload as soon as I open the page, instead of showing up instantly.

I know I'm having a slight speed issue today (stupid ISP), but even on slow days I've never experienced this and so far, it's only been confined to the Marketplace.  Not sure if that helps, but that's what I've noticed.

Try one more thing with the addons for me if you don't mind. Disable Firfox's addons, when you do a little 'Restart Now' button becomes active. Make sure to click that button to hard restart your browser when ready. If you don't the addons will continue to work.

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2014 at 4:16 PM

Oh yep, did that, kinda made it a habit to restart from there instead of the X to close.

On a side note, when I recieved the email for the reply to this thread and clicked on it, I kept getting "it seems that thread no longer exists" and this was the URL for the link in the email: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=4164385&ebot_calc_page#message_4164385

What I'm looking at now is: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2883169.  I had to search it out manually to reply here.

Oh well, looks like I'm one of those rare few that gets bugs for no reason with no way to fix.

Sry, I permanently deleted that post because I misspelled some words, didn't know it sent you an email for it. That's why you got the thread error - it didn't exist when you clicked the link.

As for the Firefox issue, here's what I can tell you:

The issue is in some way connected to how your browser is recieving/rendering images from our S3 Amazon directory.  I honestly believe it still has something to do with your extensions (your issue is exactly identical to the Safari issue we had - but this is the first occurrence in Firefox). You might try to use a different browser just to see if it works (I recommend Google Chrome), if it works in Chrome it's definitely your specific Firefox browser. However, if the same issue occurs in Chrome it could be your Internet provider or the speed of your connection.

If the issue is problematic only to Firefox, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling, that is if you don't mind losing your bookmarks and history.

But my guess is that the ad-blocker or some marketing extension is seeing 'amazon' in the url for the images and thinking that you are being spammed if a large number of requests are being received simultaneously. This would also explain why it blocks groups of images in the main content area and allows the images to come through on the sidebar.

Sorry about the wordiness.

BTW: It should have nothing to do with caching images. Also, might want to try the extensions one more time, since we actually were having programmatic errors with them about the same time you were testing.

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2014 at 5:03 PM

hmm, odd, I'll have to look into it.

Saving passwords and bookmarks is no issue, I made it a top priority to make sure I could back those up (firefox has a nice addon to export passwords to an XML file that you can re-import).

I'll try to get Chrome installed and TRY to get IE to work, it doesn't like my rig for some reason... guess MS doesn't like people building their own computers?  Anywho, I'll also try actually uninstalling the ad blocker instead of disabling it too.
