Subject: Any workarounds for the geografting (genital prop in genesis 1&2) bug?

arcady ( ) posted Sat, 02 August 2014 at 11:16 AM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 1:00 AM

I recognize that there are issues with Genesis figures in Carrara, and this one is even called out on the product page:

  • Geografting - Geografting a mesh to an existing figure uses the UV set of the figure to which the graft is being applied. However the graft may not necessarily show up on the same place of the UV map as the replaced geometry.

But has anyone found a way to get Genesis figures, 1 or 2, to render nude, despite this?

As this appears to be an error that occurs only when you take advantage of geografting - has anyone found a way to get the 'genital prop' into place without a seam, without using geografting?

And also, are there other props that this will occur with beyond just the genital props?

No ther is no fix to the genetailia issue. And I'm not aware of any other props; aside from the geografted one.

Are there any others? Not something I worry with because I know they wont work, so I've never checked.

{snide remark at DAZ's cost}

This was a known issue long before C8.5 was released. Since it hasn't been fixed yet, I doubt it ever will. Well not in C8.5.

Oh I haven't had a chance to test it yet but here:

# 23

Someone has found a way to 'hack' past this error and get geografting to work.

The method is to load the genital prop twice: A and B.

Fit A to Genesis, but fit B to A. Then hide A. B will, they claim, render properly.

I need to get an idea for a project with a nude figure and try this out... :D

(or just mess around and try it).

Victory is achieved on this. Though animators will hate it… I hacked my way to a renderable result.

This is what I posted on Daz:

Export your genesis 2 figure from Daz Studio with the settings I have attached, and she will come into carrara as an obj file that has textures intact, and will render in global illumination.

You can also get it worked with a rigged figure by exporting as collada - but it came in as a mess of files, and the genital prop was locked to something, and as a newbie user I could not sort it out. But that -might- be a clue for an animator who needs… ‘adult’ functionality for whatever.

Now I can get back to sanity on some other project, the bug in my brain has been stepped on. :)

Notice how I am NOT letting Carrara know this OBJ came from Daz… things got really weird when I tried using the daz preset, but my OBJ export was different at that time too - so I am not sure which end of this process is the important part that fixed it… :)

I am guessing the rules at renderosity also forbid me from posting a render of the results given what is being focused on here?

(Now if I ever need this in a project, it will be like back in Vue 3 when the only method of import from Poser was obj, and so I had to be very particular about having all my things set up perfectly before taking them out of Poser…)

OBJ export settings from Daz Studio to keep geograft working.

OBJ import settings for Carrara to keep geograft working.

Yes, but this is yet another work around for something DAZ should have fixed a year ago, it should have been fixed before the release of C8.5 because it was a known issue.

Let face it. Based on the evidence at hand C8.5 may very well be the last build of carrara. I have seen no real evidence DAZ is actually developing C9. But this is a typical senario now a days. Developers do an inept job developing an application, they refuse to fix anything, the app loses it's fans/customers, and the company blaims the nay sayers. So even though I have nothing to do with the development, marketing, or sales of carrara it's my, and people like me's fault carrara sales have plumited.

It's certainly not DAZ inept development of carrara, or it's complete lack of marketing for it, or it's off handed, second thought sales of carrara that has caused it's demise. It all our fault for wanting a better working app with all the features working as advertised.
