Subject: Normals in Poser

Hi! We have got another problem in Poser. Seems to be, part of our modell are loaded with normals. We don't know how to get them out. - Modell was created in RDS 5.02 - unmarked ....export normals.... - no vn in the *.obj Perhaps you have some good advices. Are there any tools to fix this problem? Can we do some changes in the *.obj? Cheers Daniel

You can use the grouping tool in Poser to reverse the normals. A good grouping tool tutorial at http://www.dacort.com/ Another good tutorial at the 3D-CC. You might try loading your OBJ into UVMapper, then saving it back out, un-checking the Export Normals box.

We try this tutorial. Using UV-mapper to reverse the normals was not succesful (unchecking the normals), because we used this good program to create a texture. thank you Daniel

We fixed the problem. We had to change a setting in RDS. It's not a Poser-problem now but RDS. If you are interested: - We had to select the part in RDS-modeller, which cause the problem in Poser - We had to mark the '...reverse surface normals...' in the properties of this selected surface. Now in Poser there are no more normals anymore. Simple solution. Greetings Matthias + Daniel

Hi guys! Actually, I think there are still normals there, they just face the other way. Normals say which side is front, and only the front side is shown untill you render. I'm sure you knew all that!

heyas; hmmm... unchecking the 'export normals' in uvmapper should make poser not care which way ray dream had the normals facing, shouldnt it?

heyas, think Jim gave us a good hint. Yes indeed, this part which can be seen transparent in our image, was duplicated in RDS and turn around with 180. There are no normals (vn) imported into Poser. Nevertheless we got the solution how to erase this transparency in Poser. It's just a blemish, because after we have rendered the model, it is shown correct. First we thought, uv-mapper can fix this problem, but is doesn't.

I had a lot of problems with reversed normals in Max until I figured out a procedure. Normally (!) if you mirror anything in Max Poser treats the normals as reveresed, but Max doesn't, so if you reverse them in Max they are correct for Poser, but not for Max. The answer in Max is to attach the mirrored part back to the source part, then detach again if required. I don't know if that will work with other programs.
