Subject: SR 4 issue

mr_phoenyxx ( ) posted Fri, 15 August 2014 at 2:06 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 9:47 AM

I've already submitted a ticket to Smith Micro about this, but I wanted to know if anybody else has experienced this:

Poser Pro 2014 SR 4 was released on August 12. I downloaded it last night (Aug 14). The download link provided via email for the Poser Pro 2014 install file was actually a Zip file with two files inside: a Poser Pro install and a Queue Manager install. There is a separate URL provided in the email for downloading the Queue Manager install file. When I downloaded the separate file though, it was SR 3.1 for Queue Manager and not SR 4.

I basically ignored that oddity though, and installed the Poser Pro 2014 SR 4 update. The update went very smooth and my Poser Pro 2014 is now version 10.0.4.27796. I then used the Queue Manager file from the ZIP (not the SR 3.1 file I downloaded separately) to upgrade a separate computer's Queue Manager, and it is also now version 10.0.4.27796 of Queue Manager.

However, when I check the version of Queue Manager on the same machine that is running Poser (the one that I ran the Poser update for), it is the SR 3.1 version of Queue Manager and not the SR 4 version.

So the Poser Pro 2014 SR 4 update appears to not be updating Queue Manager on the local machine.

And now I'm not sure just how to get the proper version of Queue Manager running on all machines as you are not supposed to use the separate Queue Manager install on a machine that already has Poser installed.

I believe there's a separate updater for Que Manager.  Did you try installing the one that came with the zip on that same computer instead of on the other machine?

I didn't even know it was released, is there a link where the fixes/changes are listed?

You aren't supposed to use the separate Queue Manager updater to update the system that has Poser installed on it though. So no, I haven't tried that yet. I thought I'd wait to see what SmithMicro said.

So SmithMicro is telling me that if I have a separate Queue Manager folder, which I do, then that isn't right.

I don't recall having ever run the Queue Manager install separately on my Poser computer. I am pretty sure Poser's install created that separate folder.

We'll see what they say though.

The Queue Manager needs to be installed ONLY on the slave machines.
If you have no slave machines, you do not need that QM  installer.

Odd. I wasn't alerted of an update, unless it went into a junk folder. Poser Pro 2014 didn't give an alert either, but I'm not sure if it would.

Well don't let us confuse you (especially me, I don't use Que Manager). Send a support ticket to Smith Micro Tech Support.

I put my Poser Game serial numbers in and it would not accept these numbers. However when I put my Poser Pro 2014 numbers in I was able to download. Before I install the SR4 update I am wondering what affect it will have on Poser Game? Cheers

I suspect Poser Game already has these enhancements/fixes, given the timing....

Unlike Teyon, I use Queue Manager.  A lot.    On the master machine with Poser & Queue, you only run the Poser Pro installer;  that installer contains its own Queue.

On network render drone machines which have only Queue installed, you run the Queue installer.

On a master workstation, Poser Pro and Queue executables will both be in the Poser Pro 2014 folder.  On your render drones, Queue exe will be in the Queue Manager folder.  Within C:>Program files>Smith Micro, you should not have both a Poser Pro 2014 and a Queue Manager folder.  This would result if you ran both the Poser Pro installer and the Queue installer on the same machine.  That would mean you have Queue executables in both of those folders.  I can imagine there would be software confusion from that.

Poser 12, in feet.

If you have installed the Game Dev version, you already have SR4 in it

Yes, I know. :)

I do not recall having ever run the Queue Manager install separately on my main machine - the one that runs Poser. Obviously I have at some point though, as there was a separate Queue Manager install which was the issue. Uninstalling it and running the correct EXE file from the Poser folder resolved the issue.

Interesting though that my Queue Manager has been updating properly prior to this...

Anyway, No issue with SR 4 - just an isue with me. :)
