Subject: Thumbs

Can any one show me how to create thumbnails for my renders in the Poser gallery?...

I am breaking my head figuring out how to do this!...i just want a portion of my image to show in the thumbnail...not the whole image.

I know that a miniature of my image will be shown in the thumbnail...if i dont make my own thumbnail...but i dont want this...is there a tutorial somewhere on how to just show part of my image in the thumbnail?...

The rules for thumbnails are very specific in the upload instructions...any slight deviation in the measurements and the thumbnail will not be uploaded!...

Please help and tips.

Thx

Are you asking for training on how to crop images? Because that has nothing to do with thumbnails for renderosity. If that's what you need to learn then say so. Otherwise, you're going to get a lot of irrelevant explanations.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

You might also be asking how do you crop and/or resize the thumbnail as part of the upload to Renderosity. If that's what you're asking, then the answer is you don't. You prepare your own thumbnail before you come to rendo to upload it.

You can do that with programs or web sites. There are lots. You need to tell us which you want to use. (Such as Gimp, Photoshop, Picasa, www.picresize.com, etc.)

If you already have Photoshop, you can use that; however if you don't already have it, it's pretty pricey, and Gimp is free. Depending on what platform you're on you have other options as well.

You could also just create a new camera on your scene that you rendered, set the render dimensions to the thumbnail size, and render out a portion you want shown as the thumbnail.

Sheedee which photoshop do you have? (The UI has drastically changed over the years.)

I believe that version's crop tool supports a typed-in size for each side and while you're selecting the region, it will treat it as an aspect ratio. Upon completion it will resize what you selected. If not, then I'm pretty sure the rectangular lasso will do that. (Aspect ratio)

Say you want a 200 x 200 thumbnail. You want any selection that is square, so you use whichever tool will let you type a 1x1 ratio. As you select, the box will remain square.

Or - if you wanted a 300 x 200 thumbnail, you would use 3 x 2 aspect ratio.

Note, however, that I think the crop tool will let you type the final size you want. Only if it doesn't, you can use aspect ratios, and then resize as a final step.

Resizing is easy - use Image -> Image Size. Enter the size you want in pixels, and make sure bicubic resampling is enabled.

Finally, use File -> Save for Web. Select JPG and adjust the quality to stay under Rendo's 30K byte limit.

If the cropping or selection tool you're using does not allow restriction by aspect ratio, but instead does restriction by exact pixel count, then it's a little more of a pain in the butt. You have to guess what size rectangle to select/crop up front which might take a few tries. Once you've positioned the region you want, you crop. Then resize to final size, and save as JPG.
