I was thinking if ya want to see how they make flames work in Poser then download some Poser flame meshes.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=74383

So I downloaded CHK2033 candle,
how's CHK2033 making the flame transparent with out a black and white alphas ?

but I forgot how (boohoo)

I can see the nodes in poser but don't really know what I'm looking at.

it's a .jpg ,guess ya can node a .jpg also.

poser can use black and white alphas ,right ?

The jpeg is also acting as a transparency mask. You can modify the 'alpha' behaviour a little with a component node between the image map and transparency node.

the component node is just making it a greyscale image?? nice idea ;-) can you do the same and take it to a displacment node ? (add a math to cut it down a bit ?) off to try that in blender lol could save lots of messing about in gimp

@RK can "node" anything ;-) might not work lol but thats part of the fun (sometimes boucing back an forth from blender[other] to poser can teach you more then sticking in one proggy) dunno if poser can deal with PS images (dont have PS ) jpg's dont have an alpha channel (png's are my fav but tend to be bigger file size then a jpg)

now most of us have 64 bit comps maybe exr will be the next norm ;-) bigger hard drive please lol

Component node extracts the Red, Green or Blue component (0, 1, 2) from a colour image. In this case I'm using only the Red channel, which has more of a 'halo' round the flame than Green and Blue channels; without the comp node you get the average of all 3 channels. ( Or is it the mean? Or the median? )

Here's another use of the comp node: in Photoshop you could combine three separate grayscale images (e.g. specular, bump and displacement) into a single RGB image for ease of management, reduced data footprint or whatever, then once in Poser split the channels using comp nodes and direct those to the relevant root node.

True... but Going from blenders beautiful instant feedback node layout  over to posers clunky system is always a bit of a let down.

@ cspear nice idea !!! why do I never think of things like that lol ;-) will have to have a practise if I get stuck watch out a yell for help

@wolf nice set of nodes have to get my glasses on and brain in gear to study that a bit rofl poser's pretty good but but blenders cycles(with a good gpu) beats the pants of most proggys
