I'd like to see the pages come back as well.
As a DAZ Studio user, most products I buy here don't come with DS-compatible materials. That's fine; I'm used to making my own. But while I might immediately install my purchases, I don't always make DS materials for them right away.
I use the store's promo images as a guideline when I make my materials, comparing what I've done to the vendor's previews to see if I'm at least in the ball park. If those images are gone, I can't do that, and this makes me a little grumpy.
I've gotten into the habit of downloading the main promo image for each purchase, for my DIY content management system, but some products have many extra props and/or options and I'd rather not have to download every promo image.

I do that a lot as a Poser user, too. And not just when I'm texturing. Sometimes when I'm rendering something and my render looks a bit "flat," I'll load up the product page and take another look at the promos. LOL Sometimes doing that helps me spot where I can change lighting or camera angles to help my render...
Quote - I'm getting that message on stuff that doesn't look like it would be old at all, and it's getting annoying.
Like this: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/miki4-cute-pose/96817/
Maybe the product just didn't sell well. One of the perils of clearance.
I really, really wish I would have been better about saving promo images. This is going to be nightmare... I have some pose sets that are absolutely gigantic (especially the ones with partial poses... sigh
This is really stupid, I agree. Though luckily, some of the pages, promos, and readmes are on the wayback machine.
I have a question, up until now, was it possible to ask a vendor if they would sell them a non-available product just to them? Because someone on the DAZ forums said that some vendors will do this, but didn't specify where, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't at DAZ since retired items are 404'd for anyone who hasn't already bought it. Renderosity is the only site I'm aware of that up until recently still had product pages for retired products. Also, it seems like things are exiting the clearance at a faster rate all of a sudden. I think Cookie products have been halved in just 1 month, and it's not just a single vendor.
Wasnt broke, why nerf / change it.
Bandwidth, obviously.*
Okay can somebody give me some links that you see this on? Deleted product pages should still viewable just saying "unavailable" rather than "add to cart". The only time it should give you that "Oh Snap...." message is in very rare instances like a product that is in a "held" status due to something specific going on with it but otherwise if it's deleted it should still be viewable so if I could get some direct links so I can make sure something didn't get changed by accident that is causing this on deleted products as you should be able to view the page just not buy it
IceEmpress, it's not a "bandwith" issue if deleted products are giving that "Oh Snap..." message then it's due to another change that was made that might have affected this unknowingly and we want to make sure to correct this if it is the case, like I said above except under very rare circumstances you shouldn't see the "Oh Snap" message but an unavailable while still being able to view the product page as normal.
So as soon as I have some example direct URL's to look at and review with the programmers if something is wrong, it will get corrected
Thanks
First product in my order history "Rameses II for the M3 Pharoh" does it http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=55996
The Gun http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=30228
The Gun 4 http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=44029
The Gun 5 http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=65369 (though admittedly quite oddly, I get this message at the top of the page just below the banner, then the actual product still shows up on this one).
Hope these help.
The New HD Toaster from Wamco toasts bread more evenly and acurately than Standard Toasters. Take advantage of the FULL resolution of your bread and try one today, because if your toast isn't in High Definition, you are not getting the most of your toast!

ALL of the non-available products now send you back to the MP homepage with the "Oh Snap! This product is not currently available for viewing. "
If you want more examples, then just copy and paste this search query onto Google:
site:http://www.renderosity.com/ "mfd" -downloadhelpfile -"studio fantasy" -"poser fantasy"
Erase the minus from "downloadhelpfile" to find the readmes.
Yep, each and everyone I've tried recently have returned "Oh snap" message.
And I do look quite often at old pages, for previous reasons stated. Sometimes when I'm starting a new scene and i have an idea what I want to use, I'll pull together a list of the product pages for the "old" products just in case I want to peek at them while working.
And then, there's the fact that vendors seem to do the Poser shop relocation merry-go-round a lot these days. I try very hard not to duplicate items just because they've been moved to different stores... sigh
Any way... A few examples, out of my humilatingly long order history here...
Hmmm... These are totally random because these are in my bookmarks.

I sometimes keep browser bookmarks of products I'm really interested in, but haven't purchased in addition to my grossly long wishlist here. Once this "Oh Snap" busisness started, I recently axed those. Wish I hadn't now. I'm sure some of them had gone the way of the dinosaur.
Here is one product somone referenced that I don't have. I had recently bookmarked it.

Tiggersprings, the promo images are still there. Just type your product into Google and view the cache.

To be fair, in the case of EmmaandJordi, their products aren't entirely the same as they're now for V4 and Genesis 2 rather than V4 and A3.
Quote - Oh no I am so sorry you did all that work:( I really appreciate it though.
LOL That's okay. It's my slow typing lately.
Thanks, IceEmpress. Using Google cache is a bit slower than the product pages, though. I'm aware that EmmaAndJordi have relocated, those were just examples I hadn't deleted out of bookmarks. ;)
Umm... Okay... I don't "get' Renderosity logic here... LOL
I was just told in this other thread that I was seeing an error on old products' readmes because I'm supposed to...
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=4177473&ebot_calc_page#message_4177473
It's kind of as bad as "Oh, Snap!" since old product pages and readme files can be invaluable. Some of the oldest products I have contain readmes that are just called readme.txt. They all have a tendency to want to overwite each other because of this. So sometimes, it's handy to pull up old documents from their offline source as references, just like old products' promos can be good reference... So now, in other words, old product pages are not as useful without the readmes that are attached.
I'm really not trying to be a trouble-maker or anything. I'm just trying to understand the logic here.
Oh, yeah, the dreaded ReadMe.txt. I even see it on some not so old products. Believe it or not... despit me not doing this on stuff I make, I have had complaints because the readmes don't over write eachother with the unique names... I just don't understand...
I hate trying to find a readme for a product to remind me of important information on many products because often I need to dig out the old zip files and look it up there (or in the case of old Daz stuff, re-install it to get the supid readme).

People complain because yours don't overwrite? That's crazy.
I find it maddening when i have to look up old files because i can't find the readme. I guess if the old readmes are going to no longer be available, I need to work on redownloading all my old stuff and organize readmes or something, making sure to renamde the readmes as need. Just another thing for the to-do list (not to mention one more thing to keep me from making new products or at least producing renders). Not to mention, with the length of my order history, a lot of bandwidth... I guess I'll work on doing it one order at a time. Or, if I want to really make an impact on Renderosity's badwidth, one letter of the alphabet at a time... LOL
I find it odd too, but the reasoning I was given was "It clutters up my folders with lots of readmes".
Since all of my readmes are in a Documents folder, which is becoming more commonplace with many vendors, I just do not understand. I intend to keep my naming conventions though, for my own sake.

Yeah, I hear ya there. I'd rather have cluttered folders (with file names that make sense) than have to struggle to find what I'm looking for in runtimes. Or having to redownload, if I can help it.

Hey,
Can I just say, as a customer how much I hate seeing the above message? Epecially when trying compare things like bundled products that are no longer available to something that is available and on sale or clearance.
I was just trying to compare defunct "RT-Native American EXTRAVAGANZA" to still availabe and currently on sale "RT-productions M3-Native American." And, when I search through my history and finally get to the entry for it in "My Account" I see the above infuriating message... sigh On sales that last a few days, not a huge deal. I could contact Rena with quesitons... But on a 1-day sale... Said vendor might not get back to me in time...

In short, old product pages (and their accomanying online readmes) make for conveient reference materials for customers that have been around for a while. Please don't remove them.
