Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
BUG:
Open joint editor and click on any body part of any figure that has fall off zones. Select the bend or ide to side (again, anything that has fall off zones).
the inner and outer mat sphere is no where near where they are supposed to be. this is sr3 AND sr4... needs a fix ASAP for content creation.
Game Dev version.... tested 1 thing so far, the kinect.... the results are horrible to say the least.
I've hit a weird snag. Running Poser Pro with SR4. Using the Aundrea hair by OOT and the Mixed 06 mat pose. Poser keeps applying a custom gamma value to the image nodes. Even if I go in by hand and manually change it. As soon as I reload the file, the custom values all return. Even if I make my own material file, and apply, again, they custom gammas all return. (custom gamma of 1.0 btw)
I've been using this hair for about 70 images since may (sequential art) and since the SR4 update I'm hitting this weirdness, I was not getting it before.
I've just saved an uncompressed mat library file and will take a look at it.
I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
Quote - That's a known bug. I thought it predated SR4, though.
It probably was, I just never hit it before, it's odd that I've rendered that hair file about 70 times and it never did that until now. The work around I just came up with was to save a new material library file with a forced gamma setting instead of "using the render gamma setting"
I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
Lots o fun... I'm still waiting for SMS to get back to me. But, it's only been 8 days I've been waiting....................so yeah...
Quote - also - my library in Poser Pro 2014 keeps losing the ability to display pngs after a few hours of use, I restart poser and it's fine.
I get something similar: After some hours of work my PP2014 takes 10-20 seconds for the thumbnails to eventually appear when I change/open a folder or category. It keeps displaying ones it already displayed, and the problem only happens with some (not all) folders/categories, mostly with those I hadn't used for a long time (or not yet in that session). Looks like a thumbnail caching problem, like if the library eventually "forgets" some unused thumbnails and has to rescan the affected folders all over again; Or, if it scans thumbnails on the fly, some really marked sluggishness in doing so.
As I said, for me waiting 10-20 seconds brings them back, so it's just a minor annoyance.
(64-bit Poser Pro 2014 build 10.0.3.26510 on Win7Pro, single runtime of around 200 GB. Runtime is inside Poser (old style), and Poser is on its own partition (not on C:). Flash and Air are kept up to date.)
Do you have the hard drives set to turn off after an interval. If you have then, after that period the thumbnails will display until to change folders at that point the library will wait for the hard drive to spin up, around 10 - 20 seconds depending on the hard drive (assuming it is not an SSD) before it reads the content of the folder..
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Just thought I would mention it as mine does that and use Shaderworks Library Manager 2 but then my harddrives are set to spin down after around 10 minutes. Not seen any change since upgrading to the Game Dev version.

I do, but I don't think this is a spin-up issue, for it would happen much earlier (HD sleep time is 30 minutes). Also, once the drive has spun up again one would assume any further thumbnails should appear instantly as before, which I don't think they do.
I'd need to check more closely; As I said it's a minor annoyance, so I never bothered exploring it. For the time being let's say it might indeed be a spin-up issue.

I don't think this is spin up/down issue, have set in Power Option-> Hard Disk-> Turn off hard disk after to never and have same issue
I still think this is down to the Adobe Air
Thanks,Jura
I have started to have a similar issue where the pics go away and come back. they are also showing double pics again and again. I have to refresh for it to go away, but comes back again and again....
I will not bother with a ticket due to it being my fault some how, in some way....
just having a blast - now I can't open several files that I created in poser in May - every time I try poser crashes. It looks like it's "smartskinbaserlease? Why did this run before the update but not now... and how do I fix it? anybody?

Have you tried a system restore back to a point before the update was installed? If the problem showed up after the update, the update may be the issue.
Quote - and the response I got from Smith Micro - uninstall and re-install poser. Rolls eyes.
I had a friend with the same version test the Aundrea hair by OOT and got the exact same weirdness I keep seeing if you don't manually set the gamma on the texture import.
You were expecting something else? It's your fault if their software doesn't work you know...
I just wasted an hour of my life on the game dev "webinar". No questions asked were answered that would have anything useful to "how to" or "we will fix this". Granted I left after an hour and 2 minutes... when it was clear that the questions asked were just to pat themselves on the back or answer things already said.
SM, when will you answer for saying you "support" something and taking my money when you clearly do not "support" Kinect? I love the way the Andy example didn't work and you sure didn't try to do it again. I Love the way the Live Draw doesn't work (on my system it doesn't work either, and I'm not streaming a webinar). I love the way you cannot use any angle other than 0. I love the way you cannot use any figure other than Andy.
Pluging something in is not "support". Making something work as advertised... then you might have something!
Just popping in as I have the same issue with dissapearing thumbnails (while the content itself can be loaded). I can only get rid of this issue when starting Poser again. As others stated this happens after working for an hour and so and trying out different things. My computer is set to run at least for one more hour when there's no activity - as I found that he is interpreting a render as no activity and falls asleep when it should work.
Hopefully this problem will be adressed as it's really annoying!
I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!
And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

This may have come up before, but it has just frustrated me again, "Paste onto background" is messed upin wireframe and outline display modes. It fills the outline area with background colour, so I can't paste one outline image over another for onion skinning/reference.
The same thing and worse occurs in png renders in preview mode. I did regullarly export clips of single body parts in outline mode with joint centre/origin visible for motion tracking in Moccha/Hitfilm but now the background colour fills the outline and obscures the crosshairs of the origin. Just to add to the weirdness, it does this from the 2nd frame, 1st is as previous versions of Poser a transparent image with just outline and origin visible.

I got some problems when I render a pz3 Szene, and open a existing one or a new one (e.g. prefered Szene).
The lights are not working anymore after I had open a new one, or a new one (e.g. prefered Szene).
I had deleted the preference folder, no changes.
I had installed SR2, same result.
Any hints?
The only changes I made in the last time is a new flash version (15.0.0.189) and the automatic Firefox Updates.
Thanks for youre help.

This problem is fixed in SR5, use the download manager to pick it up
Has anyone else run into this problem?
In the Poser 9/Pro 2012 Cloth Room, all cloth drapes properly over the Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 figures.
In the Poser Pro 2014 Cloth Room, all cloth drapes properly over the Genesis 1 figures, but not the Genesis 2 figures.
If so, how did you correct it?

Do you have all the files installed so Pro 2014 will acknowledge Gensis 2?

if it worked fine before an update, and now doesn't after the update.... wouldn't you think the answer is "yes"??? Wouldn't you think it is something in the update that broke it?

That sounds about right to me. I fought with 2014 for nearly a year- all it did was hang and crash. I finally went back to Poser 9. I seem to have bad luck with the even numbered programs.
So I'm waiting for Poser 11 or 2015.
Do you have any plugins installed? Maybe they and the Updates don't mix and that's affecting everything else.

I had some custom GenX morphs enabled on the Genesis 2 figures that were not on the Genesis figures. I tried disabling them but, that didn't help.
*Anyway, with or without the GenX morphs, Genesis 2 worked and still works in the P9/PP2012 Cloth Room. *
I guess I'll keep looking.
Thanks
Asking if you have the latest support files from DAZ is a valid question. I was there a week ago to find that things had changed from my original downloads.
What update broke the Cloth Room for you? By the dates on the posts you folk should be on SR5.
G2M and G2F work fine in the Cloth Room with the relevant updates from the relevant companies. I've just run 100 frame sims on both with no problems.
I finally broke down and bought Poser Pro 2014 (well really the Game Dev.'s version), as they finally had a great sale. Anyway, I can't believe no one has noticed this (neither users or SmithMicro personnel) after five service releases (apparently), but ...
** The "Skip Frames" button is backwards.** When "ON" the playback of animation is smooth (i.e. it shows all of the frames). When "OFF" it is skipping frames (and thefore NOT smooth.) This is the opposite of how it should work -- and did work in all previous versions of Poser. You can verify this is occurring by watching the frame counter as well.
EDIT: PS, I realize this could have been introduced in a recent service release I suppose.

Actually, I was having this problem from the first installation. I believe it had been corrected by SR 3.x but, it came back after installing SR 4.x.
I tried re-installing the program from the DVD and testing the cloth room after installing each service release. For me, it is still not working correctly and I am on SR 5.x.
I just recently discovered that if I select the entire Genesis 2 figure by keeping all the body parts selected and NOT ignoring the head, hands or feet, the cloth will drape correctly.
Since I have to do this ONLY for Genesis 2 and ONLY in Poser Pro 2014, it still seems like a bug.
If I am the only one having this problem, I guess I am being punished for something?
Sr5 just broke what sr4 fixed in an sr3 issue i was having with inner and outer joint shpere zones appearing next to the figure instead of being visually where they should be for what they are effecting......
Broken. So broken.
Don't know if its a bug or just something they forgot in PP2014. The Library isn't "minimizable" anymore and the icons for all the library objects don't appear in an array like they did in PP2012. is there a way to fix that? I don't like having to scroll down through all the little icons to find what I'm looking for.

You can adjust it with the options bar at the bottom of your library. you need to click it for it to pop up to use the options.

OK, have had Poser 2014 on and off again three times. Full removal full install. Using the manager and manually from .exe files.
Gave up on Poser 2010 for a re-install. Got crashes. NP, 2014 will more than match 2010.
Can't seem to get things right no matter what I do. This is approximately what happens, sometimes I get a full library of content but nothing works.
Program (x86) and Program receive files or parts of files. And other stuff is buried about other directories which is confusing.
If there is any step by step to do this all manually that would be great. I'd really like to get this running so that I can then tackle a complete
re-org of my purchased content.
Thanks

Oh, windows7pro, on an intel i5 with 32GB RAM GTX 660 running off an SSD. All clean install from scratch. Built a goshbox to replace my gawdbox.

While not a bug, for those who have not purchased Game Dev but are considering it, you need to allow the app to phone home at least once every six months or it will deactivate.
SMS changed the system requirements page between yesterday and today but are trying to claim it was there when the product went live in August of last year.
Just a heads up for those who might not be aware of this. There's more over at the "official" forum at RDNA.
A suggestion. I have found the resulting light from object based lights in the IDL settings to be more effective in my renders than the traditional light set ups. Now there is one problem ... I may not want the actual light to be visible and of course that is contrary to the purpose of the object based light in the first place. I would like to see the effects of the object based light be an option coming from the traditional lights ... say in the preference panel. then the effect would be there with the versatility of the original lights.

Hi guys
Hopefully this is in the right place.
I'm a little rusty with Poser and new to PoserPro 2014.
I've just loaded the Genesis 2 female and done a test render and got the result below :o)
Any ideas what it is and how to resolve it?
Thanks

i cant find my "library files" on drive c anymore.....i got a new laptop thats very fast so i could make things for renderosity, and its windows 8, i installed poser pro 2014 and now when i save an object or a pose or something it shows up in my poser library inside poser but in my poser files on the hard drive, in drive c/smith micro/pose pro/runtime/libraries/ theres just an empty folder that says"collections" wtf. THERES NO LIBRARY FILES AT ALL. so i cant make anything now..can someone help please?
Here's a real PITA when using the SETUP ROOM: ============================================= Try it for yourself: Load a figure with morph channels. Some of them should be "hidden" or "EMPTY-". V4 with the Morphs++ pack would make a perrfect example, but it works with any other figure, no matter whether DAZ, Poser, or whatever flavour. -> Now take that figure into the Setup Room. You don't have to do anything there, so just return to the Pose Room. Look at your figure's parameter list now: Every single "Hidden" and "EMPTY" morph dial was turned visible (plus some randow other dials, like xOffset etc, or origins dials. In a figure with many morph channels (like a fully laden V4), this renders the figure unusable because from now on you must wade through an endless list of empty morphs to fing the one dial you need. My workaround is to save the f** up figure as temp, and then hack the changes done in the Setup Room nanualoly into an intact version of that figure. A fix is urgently requested! (P.S.: PP2014 on WinXP Pro 64-Bit, but I believe that the same problem already existed in PP2010)
It happened again, but during a different operation: I was working on a hip morph for V4, while at the same time adjusting weight maps to make the morph work nicely with the weight maps. After some time I noticed that once again, every bloody parameter dial was turned visible - but this time, in the hip actor only. So something along the way must have triggered that: - created a temporary group in the hip, applied a magnet to it, spawned a morph target. - deleted the temporary group, then continued working on that morph with the morph brush. - edited the weight maps in both thighs (side-side movement) - switched to and fro between editing weight maps and the morph. - used the group editor a couple of times to flip the normals of the hip - used the "mirror morph" command frequently. At some time along all these operations, the hidden morph dials must have been set to "hidden 0" So I'd suggest that SM checks each occurrence of "hidden 0" in the code, and investigate. Since, to my knowledge, there is no way to set a dial visible/invisible from within the program at user level, any occurrence of "hidden 0" shouldn't be there except for newly spawned dials (and only for this dial). Cheers
