Subject: render skin is no bump

I use ps do change victoria skin texture map,
but after rendering no bump,especially hands, toe s which should has bump.
and skin very smooth which is like plastic skin rather than human skin.
By the way,is there any ways to adjust figure skin so that can be render well?

I am not quite sure what you mean when you say you have changed the victoria skin texture map.  If you mean the image map that is plugged into the Diffuse_Color on the poser surface in materials then this will have no impact on the bump of the skin.

To have bump on the skin you need a suitable map plugged into the Bump on the Poser Surface.

You dont say which version of Poser you are using but if you are using one of the latest versions with Sub Surface Scattering then EZskin2,a free script by the amazing Snarlygribbly, (alternatively you could use EZMat that has the EZskin built in - there is a sticky on this forum) would be the eaiset way to adjust the skin to render well

 

 

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Dating all the way back to the P6 User's Guide, there is a quick set of walk throughs on how to create grayscale maps that can be used as bump maps using the texture map of any figure/material zone.

Check the documentation folder for either a User's Guide or a Quick Start Guide.  Also check RDNA's tutorials.

It really takes much more than just manipulating a texture map.  Bump maps should really beseparate grayscale images with added fine details to enhance the texture maps.  Simple conversions will not provide the necessary effects.  That is why you see noise nodes added to texture maps in the Material Room to bring out some details.

Also, displacement must be activated in the render settings, otherwise you will see no bumps or displacements in your final image.

I agree with what all the others said.

However, if what you mean by changing texture is using a bought or free character designed for your figure that came with material settings and all you did was double click on an icon to apply the materials then it maybe designed to look 'smooth'. This is especially true for cartoonish style textures. Or it could be a fluke that the bump/displacement wasn't figured in properly. However if the the bump is there and you still are not getting the desired results try doing what the previous comments suggested and creating your own bump map.

 

Can I ask which version of Victoria are you using in Poser?

I use v4.2 texture into photoshop to changing.

and I use v6/v5/v4 /dawn which by daz ,and into these too photo to changing

but after changing just no feeling of skin

as you know you can see your feeling of skin

all meaning is that let skin well.

but sometimes when doing tattoo in the texture ,in photoshop tattoo is small

while in poser/daz tattoo is big.

I could be wrong but I don't think you need displacement turned on for bump maps to work.

Oops!  My bad. You're right, displacement render setting is not necessary for bump maps alone.

file_73278a4a86960eeb576a8fd4c9ec6997.jp I think Atpo means in his other post, that the skin scales for the tattoo are not right, he textures them at a large size and in poser it appears small and out of scale. This is due to the uv map of the models. they are out of proportion. You can only correct that in a software wich has projection paint mode( deep paint 3d, zbrush, bodypaint3d). I think he has number 1 and wants number 2 in this picture i made quickly to show you. The scales on number 1 are not normal, the tan line is wacky and the tattoo and tummy is stretched, while on number 2 there is minimal to no stretching( due to projection painting).
