Subject: Having some problems.....

I'm new at making conforming clothes. I know how to put handles on, but I don't know how to make the pose files for handle on and handle off. I'd be ever so grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

I fear you are not gonna get lots of answers.
Handles are a thing of the past, we have Weight- and Bulge mapping now in 2014.
Handles in conforming clothes are not required any more.

Handles where only set to "invisible at render".
There where no pose files for handles that I know of.

Ok, what's Weight and Bulge mapping? If you don't mind. I use Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012.

 Hello Cwolfe,

Weight and bulge maps , (both discussed in detail in the manual) replace the traditional sphere or capsule rigging.

One of the advantages is that you do not need to create "handles" any more in the newer Poser versions.
You can "paint" each Joint with the Joint editor in Bend, Twist and Side-Side to get the figures and conforming clothing to behave.

Poser 9 and 10 can "read" weight and bulge maps.
PP2012 and PP2014 can create weight and bulge maps. (one of the reasons they are called the PRO versions)

Also check the Smith Micro tutorial site for lots of movies about this subject.

Thanks Viters,

I appreciate the help, I've been using poser for just 3d scenes and things like that, but when Fugasi1968 came out with his conforming clothing tuts I decided to give it a try. I'd like to get better at it and keep up with the newest ways to do conforming clothes.

 nice info vilters! quick Q is it possible to transfer all joints in one go to weight mapped?

Yes, and it is covered in the video's.

Select your figure => Goto "Figure" in the top menu => Select => Merge All Zones to Weight Maps => Done

This copies all existing vertex Weights into Weightmaps.

**REMARK 1 : Your Weightmapped figure will NOT bend better or worce then before.

To improve the bending, and profit of the Weightmap possibilities, you have to "Paint" the Weight and Bulge maps to improve the Joints.
Do one side, and then mirror to the other side.

Before or after you are done, you can remove = Delete all Sphere zones to decrease the cr2 size.

REMARK 2 : You can also "morph" using the Weight-and Bulge maps.

Look carefully at the video's provided, and you will discover that JCM's are also a "thing of the past."
For clothing, no need for helper bones any more.

Poser9 and 10 can read Weight and Bulge maps.

PP2012 and PP2014 can create Weight and Bulge maps. They are the Pro versions.
PP2014" tools have been improved over PP2012.

Hi cwolfe, First, can I ask what figure you are making conforming clothing for?  If your figure isn't weight mapped, all this weight map discussion is not an answer to your question.

Secondly, you really don't need those handles......if you go to the Poser Figure dropdown menu and choose Clothing>BodyParts you'll see you bones there.  You can control the bones from the parameters menu with the dials once selected - bend, twist, side-side.  The "handles" you speak of are simply a visual representation to the user of the bones in the clothing.

As a user, I really don't like the handles because I always forget to turn them off and have to re-render to remove them.

I have long ago forgotten how to turn them off but I will be happy to research it for you if you want to put them in.

to answer the question you asked, even if handles are a thing of the past, it is often good to know how things were done, either just in case you want to do it that way, especially if you are making clothes for older figures OR simply because you are curious...

there are a couple of ways you can do this,

using a pose file written like this

{
version
    {
    number 4
    }
actor (handle name here)
    {
    off
    }

}

or with a python script called by a pose file
