Roxie wants to share this conforming vest as a freebe but she cannot find the buttons that go with it. Can anyone help her?

Hey that vest is looking nice

Looks good, but can't you just use dummy buttons in MD rather than have them 'soft-calculated' or whatever they call it?
Or just add fake buttons on to it now that it's conformed?

Attention all builders, attention  all builders, attention all builders......

Did I jsut write " Attention all buidlers?

Yeah, i think I did; LOL.

Poser loves WELDED meshes for buttons, collars, and other stuff or they start flying around during some operations.....

In this particular case, the welding of the buttons has to be done to the UNDERLYING cloth if you want to add some opening-closing morphs afterwards. Not to the top cloth.

For static clothing, the buttons can be welded to the top cloth, and the top cloth welded to the underlying cloth.

You can add buttons using geometry or texturing/displacement.

Why not make buttons as separate props?  That way, when we roll the vest through the fitting room or something, it won't get deformed the way buttons normally do.

LOL! Thank you all. My intention was to ask if anyone knew about a resouce for buttons props of a type that would fit on this garb and that can be distributed in a freebie. Maybe I hoped, someone would graciously offer to provide them.   If none such is available I will have to use my own poor skills to make buttons myself.

I intend to add them as rigid decorated elements for the dynamc version and simply set-in-place for the conforming version. Structural or 'welded' connection, as Vilters rightly advocates will be easier with dedicated buttons but this would slow down release of the freebie.

Marvelous Designer indeed right now has no good solution for this. The use can 'tack' imported objects to cloth or avatar but this is not a structural connection that is exported.

Export the clothing object file to Blender and weld the buttons on in Blender?

Using Blender for me would mean first having to learn Blender. I would love to do that, once. I do have (other) tools for this, no worry. I was just looking for models of buttons first.

Don't know if any of those could be reduced enough to serve. Or if it's even the sort of thing you're looking for. This one looks pretty nice to me (but I wouldn't know... don't make clothes):

Poser comes with a primitive prop cylinder -scaling can make it a disk - a transmap can provide holes.- displacement can provide contour/rim - all your product would have to do is call the Geometry instead of containing it.

piersyf ( ) posted Tue, 23 December 2014 at 10:28 PM

Err, I'd go with a primitive hemisphere, flatten as much as you like or leave as a full half sphere. Half sphere buttons work for that vest, come in all sorts of colours from pearl to antique brass. Being hemispherical you can add any displacement map you like and have fancy buttons with anchors, coins, coats of arms, all at the addition of a single material node...

You may need to reduce poly count, but that's easier than starting from scratch.

Here's one I made a long time ago. Consider it public domain.

Great! Many thanks for all your replies and inputs.

I will try, choose an appropriate method and proceed to finish the freebie.

OK I just uploaded the .zip.

AFAIK everything is there: Flat UV's separate materials, standard morphs. Some poke-thru was seen in extreme body torsion but hey you have the morph brusk for that.

When it comes trough: enjoy you all.

Welcome, welcome, welcome, and many thanks for supporting the Poser figures.

Ok had to take it down and resubmit because I forgot to include the geometry file <BLUSH, hides under desk, then bows humbly>

Sorry those who downloaded.

OK, new version with geometry is back available in Freestuff

Just a note on "Buttons."

I haven't looked at the file, but on the subject of "buttons", at least as far as Poser dynamic cloth is concerned, they should never be welded/joined to the underlying object's actual geometry, as suggested above. (At least, inasmuch as I understand the reference to "welding." Including it in the same group isn't an issue, but connecting vertices is.) First, doing so may violate natural geometric law... :) Second, it's just not necessary with Poser's Cloth Room. Give them their own material name and, for dynamic clothing, classify them as "Rigid Decorations" or whatever classification is used there. (I don't deal with Poser's dynamics, much.) The buttons will then retain their original location, relative to the underlying geometry, even if that geometry deforms, and will not deform, themselves.

For conforming cloth, buttons included in the same group as the cloth are going to deform using Poser's standard joint system, but some of that can be mitigated a bit by making sure the buttons have denser geometry. They'll deform during extreme poses, but the deformations may not be extremely obvious. (They'll still be detectable, though.) Constructing them so that they resist deforming along the likely lines of rotation is a plus. But, it's usually not worth the effort to tweak them like that - They're just buttons and Poser conforming cloth isn't exactly "life-like", anyway. IIRC, there are some buttons, or "a" button, available on ShareCG. Alternatively, constructing a simple cylinder, giving it some subdivisions, raising an edge or two and, if desired, even drilling a couple of holes in it isn't a difficult thing to do.

PS - If you want some "buttons", let me know and I'll make some for you. Give me some reference pics for the sorts of buttons you want and I'll make one of each that you can use for whatever you wish. Also, let me know how heavy you want the geometry. ie: Whether it's for detailed, close-up, work or just normal rendering and such. (I might just make a few and plop them on ShareCG or here or something, anyway. They can be useful things to have around.)

Morkonan ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2015 at 6:27 PM

Pumped out a few buttons for you or anyone else that needs them. They're at ShareCG, at the moment:

http://www.sharecg.com/v/79150/browse/5/3D-Model/Very-Basic-Buttons

I'll also upload them here, for funsies.

.obj format, includes a low-res button for Poser low-res, distance renders that uses Poser's default smooth-shading to render a fairly circular button with very low geometry. The rest are made of moderate, but still fairly low, geometry, suitable for mucking about with as base objects for clothing buttons. Each has two material zones, front and back, if anyone cares about that sort of thing. UV Maps included, for what it's worth. All quads, IIRC, in case anyone's software has to have them.

Enjoy!

(If you ever need anything specific or of better quality, let me know. If I have time, I don't mind making it as a freebie.)

Thank you very much.

The vest is done now, but the buttons will no doubt come to good use.

If you need a custom button or something like that, just drop me a PM and I'll be happy to oblige.
