Luxxeon, ClaraIO is very good, and will work from all machines because it is in the web browser.  The model tools are good for free, but do not match the features of Blender 3D, so I only use for the Vray.  Then I found Vray renders are on limit if you do not upgrade to paid versions.  I will recommend only for modelling, if you are away from your average system and need to model.

Jeesh!  I never heard of half of these softwares!  I thought Blender was one of the only free ones out there.  I suggest Blender, actually, for anyone who wants to do 3D on a shoestring budget, because you can do everything related to 3D graphics and CGI all in one app.  It's also one of the best modelling tools in the business, not just among free software, but even compared to the multi-thousand dollar studio grade software!  That alone is amazing.

Sculptris looks very cool for sculpting, like Zbrush.  I'll have to try that out.  But then again, Blender has dynamic updated mesh sculpting built in, so there might not be a need.  I'll have to see how it compares!  Thanks for the links, everyone.

Very simplistic piece of freeware called "Sculpture Generator". Basically, you fiddle with the sliders until you make something interesting. It outputs in the .STL format, which you will need another freeware program called "Mesh Lab" to convert to .OBJ so you can render in whatever 3d software you want (I used Bryce in the example).

*NOTE - One slider on the "Sculpture Generator" I would make sure you notice is the "Grid Detail" slider, it increases the resolution of the mesh.
