Thanks.

I use it alot for some of the more exotic edge operations (spin, extend, etc.), the flex tool, arrays, and crazy extrusions. For sculpting, UVs, and poly painting it works well. Rendering and ui flexibility are very good, so too with the ability to create custom tools.

All in all I would say that Modo is an excellent all-in-one 3d package, probably the best. My habits keep me coming back to Wings3D as a base modeler probably because that's what I learned on (as with Poser), so my experience is that I usually do most of my thingies in wings and poser and turn to Modo generally out of guilt (laughter) or when I need to bring out the heavy artillery. Have to admit that I have nowhere near the facility with Modo as I do with Wings, but thats just personal idiosyncracy.

... forgot to add, IIRC you have some experience with Carrara. If you like Carrara then you will absolutely love Modo, with the exception of plant and terrain generation Modo can be seen as the perfect evolutionary example of what Carrara could be, (3d animation isn't a priority for me so on those terms I can't comment).

Modo's sculpting tools and UV tools are very good. UI is very intuitive, and very customizable.  the usual poly modelling tools are easy to identify and use.

i had Hexagon for 3 yrs before i bought 401, and i made NOTHING!  within 2 days of installing Modo , i was making simple props.

all in all, it is an excellent application.  :))

Modo is mainly a polygon modeller and renderer. For everything else you can get by if you're only doing simple projects but for anything complex you will need additional tools. Sculpting for example is not something you can do beyond a certain level of quality in Modo and you need ZB or 3DCoat or something similar. The same applies to things like character animation, dynamics, texturing etc.

there is probably a trail version you can have a play with, grab it spend as many hours as you can on it then decide

even the best software in the world is no good if YOU don't like it

[take blender as an example you either love it or hate it and if you hate it its as much use as a chocolate fireguard ]

Thanks!! smile.gif

me too, started in Wings, also.  more fun than chess, have to think ahead a few moves. lol

Blender is powerful, don't know why, i have trouble sticking with it, atleast for modeling, i think of it as a gateway to vray.

Carrara is turning into fun and relaxation, lol.  found very kind help with the first few hurdles.  still hitting hurdles, but can get through longer stretches before crying for help. lol
