Subject: Two things - Traveler's Freya Armor & An Honest Oppinion

Cin- ( ) posted Mon, 01 October 2001 at 10:04 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 9:05 PM

Hey Poserphiles... two things I wanted to ask you guys (and gals). First off, does anyone have Traveler's Freya Armor from Bbay? And if so, what're your thoughts/oppinions on it... I'm kind of thinking about getting it... It could be useful in an image I was tinkering with, and plan on going back to again... which leads to question/request number two... I put up images into the galleries, and I allow people to make comments (though not ratings... it would bother me if someone gave something of mine a low rating! And I really don't care if I get high ratings), and people post comments, but for the most part it's to say that they like it... I rarely get any comments on things to improve or someone's advice to make it better... which is helpful... I mean don't get me wrong, I LOVE when people say they like it... it makes me feel like I'm not just wasting my time... but I'd like to improve, and I feel like I'm getting into a rut lately... I put up an image yesterday that I was that happy with... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=91637 And I got a lot of positive feedback, which made me want to go back and work on it more, which made me look at the Freya armor... see it's all related. And thanks to the comments I got, I'm planning on going back into it and making it better... I'm not REALLY sure what I'm getting at, but I guess I'd like more feedback... so I guess I'd appreciate it, if you fine folks could go take a look at my gallery (fair warning, there are some nekkid people in some pictures), and let me know what you think I need to work on... and even what you think maybe my stronger points are... but bare in mind... I'm DELICATE ;) So try not to be mean.. :) Thanks, K-

first thing: don't know anything bout freya armour the other thing: how delicate? i think that's the problem... why people don't post ideas to improve, just "cool pic" ... i get pretty harsh when giving constructive comments, i just don't realise it! and since i've seen the "norm" here is to just post "cool pic" i've sharply reduced giving critiques... anyhoo, i'll check out your gallery later from home if there are nekkid pics :) (i'm at work now)

AprilYSH, I'm not really delicate... it's a running joke I have with friends of mine... I'm a rather large intimidating guy (6'5" tall), so I tease people when they get snippy with me, and tell them I'm delicate, and they should be nice to me. I have pretty thick skin, and I generally know if someone is trying to be constructive rather than just mean... it does bother me when somone says something just to be mean though.

I have the Freya armor from Traveler, I like all of his armor. They work well and are very nicely textured. You can mix and match them, and Traveler's work is always top rate.

I do not have the Freya armor, but I do have his Lady Knight and Horse armor. Everything is smart-propped and fits well. The bump map detailing is superb. Remember to grab the arm and not the armor when posing! :) Carolly

Carolly isn't that PhilC's knight armour? That is also an excellent product. I have all of Traveler's armour and you won't go wrong with any of it. I mix and match them and it's well worth getting the textures. They conform perfectly to Posette or Vickie2P4, and the new Vickie armour is execellent. Marque

When I use the leggings I do put a pair of boots on her, can't stand to see her barefoot. The boots are from a different pack, so just want you to be aware of that. I can't say enough good things about the armour, if you can afford it get it all...lol Marque

The only thing I think missing from the pack would be some kind of fur cloak....hint hint. 8^) Marque

Cin-, I'd rather give people constructive criticism than stroke their ego, but the fact is that most people here seem to get upset if you say something other than "Oh god this is just gorgeous" about their artwork. shrug

I like it when people point out things I may have missed or how I might improve. I may not always follow the advice I get, but I have gotten some that has dramatically improved my renders. 8^) Marque

Marque - Haha... I started to say that I'd bought stuff from Traveler before... but I had to go check, and I don't think I actually have! But I'm a member of the Bbay club, so I get stuff he's made every week... so that counts... ;) I know his stuff is good, but I was just wondering what other peoples oppinions were on the Freya armor since I hadn't seen it in any pictures or anything, I was curious. I think I am going to get it though (I just dunno when). Thanks for the pics too. :) Eowyn - I know what you mean... I tend to do the "Looks great." thing a lot, but I've tried to make a few comments here and there when I see something that maybe could make it better. You saw my Snowqueen picture, so you see what I mean about how when people commented on it, that it'll end up making the picture better once I get a chance to go back and work on it more... I mean, I really do like it when people like my work, and say so, so I hope I don't come off wrong... :)

I like when people give constructive crits. But it rarely happens. it's kind of disappointing for me. I don't mind the "cool Pic" thing, if that's all someone can come up with...but... I prefer something more substantial LOL! I like when peopel tell me what it makes them think of, but I don't like when people tell me what they "know" I am thinking. So, everyone I guess will like things or not that people say. I got very upset once by a poster (somewhere else) commenting on a picture about a certain subject. In this picture, I was leaving very much a feeling of 'what happened before this shot, what will happen after this shot' kind of thing. Someone told me that the picture was not an accurate portrayal of the situation. He needed more to feed his imagination. For, me, that is not a valid comment. So, what I am trying to say is that everyone will have comments they like and dislike for whatever reason...it's too simplistic, it's too psychological, it's not this or that. I think that's why people don't say more than "cool pic". They don't really know what will offend in this form of communication. people who know me well, know what they can and cannot say to me (normally just about anything)without/with an arguement (I actually like arguement but some people mistake it for anger if they don't know you) but those who don't know me, might be hesitant. And...that's...OK! LOL!!!

Cin, i left you a comment about your Snow Queen, after seeing this thread. And i do thank you for being a good sport. It looks like you are about to gather yourself up and go to your next level as an artist. i would suggest that you start playing with more adventurous camera angles and harder poses. Also, look deeper into the details of clothing fit and texturing and bump mapping. Do not be satisfied with corners on hair renders, and things like that (i saw some of those in some of your pics). Anti-alias always. Details, details. Look at pictures of other people you admire, and see what's different about those. One of the challenges of using Poser & 3D generally is to keep the people from looking like dolls. Now, messing with digital dolls is fun, and there's nothing wrong with it, but if one is serious about improving, art-wise, one has to reach further for verisimilitude, and that means introducing the chaotic imperfections that real life contains. A little unevenness in straight lines, a little clutter and mess and dirt. Real people, even gorgeous ones, are a little asymmetrical in their features and how they stand and hold themsleves. Nobody's shoulders are ever level. Feet do not rest symmetrically on the floor. Heads tilt a little. Left and right eyes are never the same amount open. There are small pores and scars on skin. It's not something one should exclaim at, but if they're missing, the picture doesn't breathe and live, however simple or complex it is. Keep posing!! hugs, Nan

if you want critism ask for it in the remarks area, that way people know you want it in the first place.

Marque, No, the Lady Knight is wearing plate over chain mail, with a slitted visor. Yours looks more like the Freya armor. Carolly

Right, but I also own the PhilC armour for the horse Vickie and Michael. 8^) Marque
