Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 17 1:08 pm)
Not so good for animations. For those who want to create animations, motion capture is the way to go.

It is a 3D Posing input doll but it's not new - we've known about it for four years.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
I remember when we first saw this. Now that you've reminded me, I went looking to see if I could buy one.
At first it seemed they never succeeded in doing anything but a bunch of promotional news articles and videos. This store page implies they're in early stages and only offering a limited run

But then I looked on the Japanese pages and while I can't read them, I see a software tool that uses the doll and it has news from this year.
I'm trying to find evidence of anybody besides the company using it. Haven't so far.
You can buy it in Japan's Amazon web site.

@Acrionx
Wow, that's the best I've seen, looks very impressive providing they haven't done any sly edits, would really love one of those for Poser!
Of course, even when it does become available, you can bet it's for the "Max" and "Maya" crowd and you'd need to sell body parts to pay for it :-(
Really nice though, very impressive.
I don't see any practical use for this in Poser/DS sorts of environments. This tool doesn't provide any "new" capability, realistically speaking, that isn't already provided for in these applications. Further, more convenient, innovative, tech is coming out on the market or has more interesting applications. Taking something like the video/motion capabilities of next-gen consoles and creating applications for true "3D" virtual manipulation of objects within the preview pane, for example, would likely be better received and much more functional, as it doesn't have rigging limitations and such and other objects could be manipulated, besides just a particular sort of human rigging.
This figure would require rigging translations and limit sets for use in Poser/DS. In some other applications it might be useful, but I don't think it's useful for Poser/DS. It's "neat", but it doesn't break any new ground in terms of user capabilities.
@pumeco: Poser already allows you to import BVH files, which contains the animation data. All you need is a setup that allows you to generate those files. You can buy an Xbox Kinect motion sensor from Ebay for about $50 and there is a software call Brekel Pro Body that sells for $79 that uses the Kinect sensor to capture the motion.

"Only, tja, I heard about 750 dollar each.
Bummer.....
And utterly ridiculous for an input gimmick that does exactly what poser is designed for....
posing a poser figure!!
Seriously IMO, to buy this for poser would just as idiotic as buying a special over hyped $750 USD keyboard
to attach to my PC/Laptop and use it instead to input data into the various fields of a spreadsheet in microsoft Excel.
