or you could follow the blender tut then bake! this maybe the best answer but probably also the most work ;-)

(was in a rush when I posted links but have looked on wayback when I got home but no joy )
in the freestuff the texture by fictionalbookshelf is pretty good has some probs at seams and edges but I have it tiling in blender so maybe with some time in paint proggy it can be sorted, I'm looking at armour for dogs so was wanting chainmail anyhow ;-)

I need chain mail without a high poly count. I could obviously just create a few circles to form the mail. That seems tedious and in the end, could lead straight to that high polycount I'm trying to avoid. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's where i am now. I have a breechcloth and right now it's just cloth. anyway I can make it chain mail?
