Subject: Ha, ha! Ooooops, apparently I was a bad boy...

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Tue, 17 March 2015 at 3:50 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 5:39 AM

So, I popped over to the DAZ forum to post a note about the "'Tis for the GLORY" weekly exercise/challenge and see if anybody could come out to play.

The post was deleted after 10 minutes. A distilled example of their corporate culture...

But, it's a free country and I didn't post this to DAZ bash.

I only mention this so if any of you would happen to mention the GLORY challenge, just don't put a link in your message.

The more, the merrier I say. And the more folks that participate, the more we learn. Tally-ho!

Many people who attend the DAZ forum are visitors curious about Renderosity but do not dare to take part in it to not displease with their “Master DAZ”.

Steve K, Ooseven, me and more others let us like Carrarators for all that has relationship with animation and appreciate Renderosity for its contribution to help impassioned of our

preferred software without having the “police” of the site which you dictates what you should not say or think.

DAZ forum is often very interesting, but the policy from another age which manages this forum is lamentable.

I've struck up a conversation with someone there to see if we can have a meeting of the minds.

I used to be able to pick up the phone and call several people over there from the president to the products manager. But, there was an exodus about 2 years ago and everybody I interacted with is no longer there.

Times change.

There are surely young wolves filled of personal ambitions and without brain wich took their places...

Ok, DAZ let me know what I did wrong, I mean how I could improve my posts.

Hopefully we'll see some new faces in the 'Tis for the GLORY challenge!

? or was there another one, that's a fantastic render by the way, great viewpoint, maybe there should be a few little humans gathered round to add perspective?

@headwax. Simply put, DAZ doesn't allow links. I think it's comical because, and this is directly from the individual deleting the posts, mentioning Renderosity.com is ok and mentioning the Carrara forum is ok. Here's why it's funny: If it's about limiting competitive exposure, not having a link actually forces visitors to see more pages with product advertising when they visit. Oh well.

I agree with adding people for scale. I'll have to revisit that image. Ran out of time to play and wanted to get it posted questioning/viewing.

Waves and says "hi!"

I've got an idea (actually several), but whether I shall have them done by Saturday is another matter (out tonight, possibly out tomorrow, yadda yadda...). But I shall see what I can get done at lunchtime. First time using the ocean primitive. I shall also need a waterfall. Not quite sure where to start with that one - possibly some kind of emitter and lots of metaballs. Again a first.

Do you want WIPs?

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 19 March 2015 at 8:46 AM

Hi Tim_A,

WIPs aren't necessary but always fun to see. For a waterfall, I'd build a simple shape with the vertex or spline modeler and then then let the texture maps do the work that adds detail. (I did something like this 'Tis for the GLORY 1, a tornado - you can download the file if you want to check it out.)

Just make sure to post in the actual GLORY thread.

Looking forward to seeing it!

Mark

Hi Mark, My first post here at Renderosity! I've not really frequented this place much, until I saw you appear on the Daz forum! I wondered where you had disapeared too!

I like the challenges......virtually no rules ...unlike the Carrara challenges , whose rules take about 15 minutes to read then I am not eligible 'cos I do not want to make some stupid spline object!

If I ever enter , my entry will be a month late because that is how long I take.....

(Edit... I tell a lie apparently I have made 4 posts? )

Nice to see you around Stu! Hey, don't over think/over work these challenges. They're just an excuse to play and learn new things.

However, if you are going to work on a pièce de résistance we can add rules and give you more time. You know, an artist must suffer for their work...

stusutcliffe ( ) posted Sat, 28 March 2015 at 2:37 PM

No, its ok keep the rule tally low. Every work I do is a piece of resistance...ha ha .   Another blank day...... well at least the kitchen stays clean.

I was going to post some things in a /the/ my gallery today, but not quite figured it out properly ( plenty of rules there!) I think my thumbnail wasnt miniscule enough, so I got cross and gave up for today.
