Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 20 11:41 am)
What version of Poser are you using will be the first question you will be asked when you do get help. It's important to know that because the features of each version and how to go about getting what you want done vary from each version.
Secondly, have you checked on the Smith Micro website? There are an abundance of tutorials there that will show you how to achieve this. If you look at the top menu of Poser under the Help tab, there is a link there that will take you straight to the tutorials. They are all in video format and fairly easy to follow.
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
For # 2 if you are using Poser 9+ use the Object Menu --->Add Constraint. This will attach an object to an other object/part. So using as an example a project I did a couple years ago.
One of the scenes required a Ninja Crow to throw a ball at some Pirates. The scene jumped from a view of the Crows and the view of the Pirates. Workflow was
1: Added the Ninja Crow and applied a BVH of a pitcher throwing a ball.
2: Added the ball object and placed it behind and to the left of the camera.
3: With the ball selected go to Object Menu and click on Add Constraint. Select the right hand of the Crow as the object to constrain to. In the parameters of the ball will be a new dial set at 1. There will be an outline box that you use to move the ball into position on the hand.
4: When the constrain dial is at 1 then the ball will follow the hand. When at 0 it will move to the location set by the XYZ trans dials. When dialed to a value between 0 & 1 it will be somewhere in between.
5: As the arm of the Crow was pointed to the front most position I started to move the ball constraint dial towards 0. This has the effect of making the ball leave the hand and appear to fly toward the camera.
So try it using Andy and a ball and spinning the constraint dial to see the effect.

Hi, before I get started I'm a noob to this site and Poser so the answers may seem stupid to you who answers. Anyways I have two questions
When I am rigging a character I can do well until I get to the fingers for weighting than the selection tools get messed up (for example if I wanted to weight a finger tip I would need to select blank space in front of the finger tip and take guesses on where the selection would go) and sometimes when I make a selection it will go to the head or other hand or something and not the fingers
If you were doing a action scene and had a character need to throw something late in the scene so you would need to parent it to the character but you need to unparent it so it doesn't appear to be flying in air because your character is moving is it possible to keyframe a parented object to be parented one frame and not the next
Once again I'm a noob to the software and this site so I may be asking stupid questions.
