Hello, everyone.  Unfortunately, with this forum entry, I am bringing some unsettling news.  I was just alerted by a kind person that some of my models were stolen, and are being offered by a thief in the SecondLife marketplace, for what appears to be a crazy amount of money.  I'm not familiar with SecondLife, so I'm looking for information on how to shut this guy down.  Also, if you are a modeler, you may wanna look around for some of your own stuff, because this guy clearly has a lot of models in his marketplace, and is making money at our expense!  Here's some examples of the models he has stolen from me, and is currently selling in his SecondLife store:

Starfish Floor Lamp
Dirty Shovel (this one was part of a larger Dirt Grave prop I created)
Street Lamp
Bag Chair (he also modified it into a couch, but this is my original bag chair, including all my original textures)

He's got a few additional models of mine too, and tons of other high quality models, which I'm sure he did not create himself!  If you create models, it may be worth having a look in his store for some of your work.  If you know someone who creates models, please alert them to this guy's illegal actions:

This guy needs to be reported, and shut down immediately.  If anyone has any information on the best course of action in regard to reporting this behavior to Linden Labs, or if anyone reading this has contacts at the Linden Research company that might be willing to help, please let me know.  This guy is stealing, and making money off our hard work.

Well for starters the prices are like L$200.00, the L standing for 2nd Life so they have no real world value iirc. Checked it out once as I was going to sell my stuff there. They are useless in that format outside of the game. If you need help post in the copyrights forum, I think there may be a letter you can send somewhere in there. It's been a while since I was here regular and have forgotten almost everything but my music now.

Hi.  Thank you for responding, and providing some insight in the matter.  Yes, the models are actually being sold for real money.  Linden dollars, from what I understand, need to first be purchased with real currency.  The models can be sold with virtual or real money, as seen in the marketplace.  Either way, my TOS prohibits redistribution of the models, including sale of the models, in any form.  I don't mind at all if they are converted and used in the game itself as personal items by the user, but redistribution and sale are the problem.  Not to mention, there are other artists who are being stolen from in his marketplace, including some artists who sell here in this marketplace on Renderosity.  Someone told me that a merchant by the name of Stonemason, who is well known in this community, is also being stolen from by this guy.

At this point, I have sent two separate "cease and desist" requests to the perpetrator; one through the Second Life marketplace messaging system, and one through his personal Facebook account, which he publicly lists as a way to contact him.  I will also file a formal DMCA complaint notification to Linden Lab's designated copyright agent, as per the information on their website, at Linden Research, Inc.

I encourage others, who may find their works being violated by this thief, to do the same.  This is an egregious violation of personal asset infringement, on a large scale.

Hi there my daughter is on SL and she says that 200L is $1.11 for now. It is what I call monopoly money that you purchase with real loot to play on SL.

To complain and get them removed you will need your proof, contact Linden Labs by phone or letter, offending avatars name and link to product AND file a DMCA with them.

Do not contact the offender directly since they will only remove the item, then come back with an ALT persona and do it again.

Hope this helps, there is a lot of theft there, they even swiped a few of Xurge's things and they went after them too. Linden Labs will removed and possibly ban the avatars RL persona if they are chronic about it.
