Subject: beginner needs help with posing V4

spacechimp ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 2:16 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 2:33 PM

Hello I know this is a really stupid question, but I am getting really frustrated ,when I dress victoria 4  in poser 2014 and then pose her all her clothes and hair falls back off again. I am sure this is a simple problem but I would be grateful for any help!

Did you conform the clothes and hair to V4?  If the hair piece is a prop, it will need to be parented to her head.

Thanks hborre the problem is I cannot find the parent to button in Poser .

May I suggest ... and I'm not being a jerk here, I'm really trying to help.  Go through the manual and the tutorials that come with PP2014, it will help you sooooo much.  Honestly.  The program is very user friendly once you understand its structure.  For a quick answer, "Parent to" is in the figure drop-down, then you follow the hierarchy to the head (for the hair).  "Conform to" is also in the figure drop-down menu.  But items in PP2014 can be dragged and dropped on the figure they are conformed to.  Be sure that the clothing item is made for Vicki 4 first, especially if you are a beginner.

ho-hum...
I still remember from the time when "I" started with Poser, how enigmatic and unpredictable all the strange new functions were. At times I was totally lost and thought of giving up!
However, it was a stupid assumption of mine that a program as complex as Poser could work "load-click-make art". Instead, I read several thousand web pages od tutorials, forums, and spent uncounted hours in the Poser program itself, trying, failing, trying again ad nauseum...

Please understand that you won't get a simple "walk-through" to your question - it's impossible! If you look around in the forums, you'll stumble over countless threads that deal with exactly this problem.
READ them, try out what you find there, and learn! Add bookmarks for threads/websites that appear to be useful, but above all:
KEEP EXPERIMENTING!
You can't destroy your computer if you do something wrong; worst thing that can happen is a (rare) reboot!

There's an old song from the band "Deep Purple", it's on their album "The Book Of Taliesyn" (1968!):

If you load a figure you probably want to conform it, and thats on the top menu.

If you load a prop you need to parent it to  a body part which you can do with the change parent option or by opening the hierarchy editor and drag and drop the prop onto the figures body part.

Manuals and starter tutorials will help. Its a steep learning curve but give it a few days and you will be flying along.

Why do you need hair and clothes anyway ?  V4 naked , bald in a temple with a sword is the normal first picture for all poser newbies. ;-)

pikesPit ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 5:24 PM

But that would make it a "BNVIATWAS"!
From what I saw hitherto, most "NVIATWAS"s have hair styles that would take poor Vicky two days to style - and then, add the time to practice sword fight! :D
;)
However, I only can emphasise the other part of your post re. the learning curve. We all started like this, didn't we?

DeathMetalDesk ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 6:00 PM

Is that a gerbil speaking to a guinea pig?

Lol.

pikesPit ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 6:17 PM · edited Fri, 01 May 2015 at 6:28 PM

Not a gerbil to be precise.
It's a "Jerboa" - a "Desert Rat". British 7th Armoured Division sign, WWII. Knowing history doesn't harm - Google is your friend... ;)

Oh, OK. It's an old gerbil then.

Thanks to everyone who answered You have solved my problem when I drag and drop the clothes they conform automatically, now I can actually get on with doing a scene. I know what you mean about watching tutorials and manuals , I am watching the Rendero ones  they are excellent but they skipped this problem.Anyway I feel stupid now I had gave up on poser because of this LOL. Really grateful for all the help very kind of you all and yes that is a Guinea pig !!
