Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Good evening all!

So, I fire up the browser this afternoon and navigated to my favorite 3d store and pulled up the What’s New page to start browsing through what new toys have come out in the past several days.  You see, this is a weekly ritual for me for almost as long as Renderosity has been around.  And I don’t just look.  My wishlist is often flushed out during sales (and quickly replenished) and the queue of products I have yet to install literally fill my desktop (where I leave them until I get around to installing and storing the zips).  Sounds like utopia, doesn’t it?

Well, it was, for a long time.  Happily upgrading Poser version after version, installing the latest and greatest content from some of the most talented 3d artist I’ve seen.  But something dark began to creep into my shopping experience.  Disturbing and not at all what I had come to expect from this great marketplace.   What started off as the occasional “sexy” pose set or slinky lingerie has blossomed into full-on, in-your-face, sexually explicit, ultra-suggestive poses, expressions, and morphs.  Quite frankly, it’s become overwhelming.

Up until now I’ve been politely ignoring it, in hopes that everyone would eventually get their fill and move on, but it just keeps getting worse.  I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was seeing the very first product on the What’s New list today.  Despite it being from a vendor who I have the upmost respect for and have patronized many, many times before I was downright appalled to see none other than VAGINA MORPHS!  And not just one or two thrown into a larger pack of body morphs but a whole product dedicated to VAGINAS and the adornment thereof!  Numerous morphs that’ll get your V4 ready for deep penetration with just one simple click.  Considering much more capable purpose-built products like that have existed elsewhere for years I’m quite frankly baffled and ashamed that Renderosity would all of the sudden decide that their moral and ethical standards are low enough to accept this sort of filth (no offense to the vendor who created it but you should have known better than to sell it here).  Before too long I'm sure we'll start seeing penis props complete with "throbbing erection" morphs for good measure.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a prude.  I have a vagina and I am rather fond of it.  And I certainly don’t begrudge someone wanting to make or purchase these types of products, but I would never have imagined that one could be able to fulfill that need here!  It seems Renderosity is having an identity crisis.  You claim to be a family friendly site yet nearly every product comes with half-dozen or more “Content Advisory” flagged promo images, some bordering on outright blatant over-the-pants sex.  You have products for Kids4 right next to sex/bondage poses, BDMS props, and now vagina morphs (coincidently, which would load no problem onto K4 thanks to Unimesh.  Can you say "Ewww"?).  I could say it’s a slippery slope, but it already looks like the store has slid completely off the hillside and straight into the brothel next to its blacksheep cousin site who it parted ways with all those many, many years ago for just this very reason!

Well, I’m taking my dollars elsewhere until Renderosity can pick itself up out of the gutter and quit intermingling children and other family-friendly content with nude women bound with ropes hanging from the ceiling with fully articulated boobs and vaginas.  Thankfully there are still several marketplaces that don’t feel the need to shove sexually explicit products in your face at every possibility.    I just hope that I’m not alone in my impression of Renderosity’s increasing sexualization.

Have a thought-inducing nite!

NotMyActualAcct

(I just noticed the vagina product is mysteriously absent now but the same product for G2F is still up so I won’t be holding my breath on it not reappearing later on.  And in case you missed the flood of sponsored adverts promoting it, you can now hang your figures with ropes, BDSM-style.  I'm sure glad I quit browsing this site when my grandkids are around.  Yeeesh!)

Rendo does have a habit of sending mixed messages, stating one thing just to change it a few months down the road.  i remember back in the day when they pulled all 'adult' type content, just to put it all back again if the vendor was willing roughly 8 months [?] later...

i'm no prude either, but some things here can still surprise me in terms of what the current acceptability might be at any given time...

and, though i may'nt be able to think of any real uses for a vaginal morph or prop beyond the obvious, there might be others that have a need for such a thing, and a need beyond the obvious.

for example, those beautiful rope packs you have in your post.  if those were ever made for V4, i'd be nabbing them up in a heartbeat.  not only do i find them extremely artistic and pleasing to my eye [i don't see them as sexual bondage anything], but i can see uses for such things beyond the potentially obvious like Cirque du Soleil type images, or creepy horror type images [think weird murder house]... etc.

i believe a thing is just a thing and it is through intent or use that defines it for judgemental purposes [good/bad, healthy/unhealthy, benign/malicious, etc.]

and in the time it's taken me to type this, i've thought of a use for a vaginal morph:  the birth of some horrifying alien creature or devil spawn, the sheer terror & horror on the mother's face as she leans up & over to see what slips from her body - but that's just me... i tend to like creepy stuff :))

[checking the Content/Language button in case 'vagina' is actually a naughty word]

I'm sure it would never occur to most people to load vagina morphs onto K4, and yet you made the connection. If you see smut everywhere you look, perhaps it's in your head?

2: There has been two genitals- products in the store recentley. There havn't been any for a while now. So you feel, you have to give a word of warning.

You are completley overdoing and constructing a problem, that is not there. By that way of thinking, better forbid pencils, they could draw much more realy nasty things.

Sorry, I don't believe that.

There might be websites out there, that realy go beyond any limits, but renderosity is defniatley not one of those. So sorry, I cannot understand your problem, at all.

I am sure that if thirty people respond to this you are going to have thirty different views on what is acceptable.  Agreed is does look a little strange that items like this are on sale at a time when, in a forum thread, it has been sort of accepted that a render showing a adolescent flat chested 'female' alien would break the TOS.  There was also the time when the 'other site' referred to could be mentioned but not linked to but then that made more consistent by not allowing links, even if that was not the intent.

One big problem here is the 'intent' for the product, even the bondage products highlighted distances itself from the possible sexual aspect in the promos.  Of course this does not stop anyone using the item in a sexual manner but I can see the artistic aspect in the product.  I can also see possibilities where the render could be used in a non sexual manner, like a render depicting the abuse of people by traffickers of refuges fleeing their war torn homes.  Such a render may not meet the TOS here, but it might elsewhere and it would be depicting what is happening to people right now.

I have shopped here for years but also occasionally at the other site because there is a lot there that, while the drive there might be sexually explicit, there are items that may be used in a non sexual manner that is not available at Rendo.  If you were trying to portray a dungeon for an illustration for a period novel there is far more applicable products there than at Rendo.  With this in mind it would be rather hypocritical of me to condemn Rendo for selling similar products, site consistency might be another matter though.

In fairness the OP was only voicing her stance in what she felt was a drop in standards and is entitled to that view, even more so if she is prepared to stand up for those views buy not buying.

I don't happen to agree but that probably comes from that fact that I have never understood why guns are allowed in the marketplace and not sex toys.  Then again I am weird, as it never understood either why people that chase a round sphere around a pitch are paid millions but people that save lives and care for others are paid what is an insult in comparison.  Also being fair to Rendo, they are only really reflecting society, which is my book is already screwed up.

I completley aggree, and I think, that model - and other casting shows on TV are more a danger to young adults, than pictures of a sex toy.

I recently caught a promo clip on UK TV for a show where the parents bling up their kids and showed a child that looked around six years of age having a spray tan.   I doubt the parents came to this state by looking at too many naked underage aliens, so something else is to blame.

Ach, what do you want?
It is the normal evolution of things anno 2015..

First , the market slows down.
Prices increase as the vendors want to keep their income with less sales.
This, backfires, as it always does.

And ultimately they return to what will sell; Sex and porn.

Circle closed.

All I can say is there's a reason my Prime membership expires today and won't be renewed.

It has nothing to do with "sex" stuff, but with the general lack of quality in the Renderosity marketplace.

Too much in the store that isn't even worth the $3.50 price tag.

Tired of wading through page after page after page of JUNK.

the vagina, has as much place in 3d art as any other body part, as always, it depends on the artist. It is not my thing but I respect art and the individuals right to portray things that make others uncomfortable. There are lines to be drawn of course, especially in this modern world. I don't believe that something as natural as the human body is on that line.

I do agree though, with the OP's observations. it does seem, at least on the surface, that Renderosity is being hypocritical here, especially since they pandered to the prudes many times in their history.  One rule for artists, another for vendors. So why not, split the site, have an adult section where people can buy / sell , and indeed show their adult content to their hearts desires, where every time you want to access it, you have to login with some form of age challenge.

Yes there are other brokerages out there willing to sell this type of product, but the vendor's exposure (no pun intended) will be limited to people who are actually interesd in that stuff. Don't get me wrong. I am sure there are many here willing to buy such products for the sake of curiosity or realism, or whatever else seems like a good reason.

But now, to something I found rather odd about the OP (the cynic in me strikes.). Why would a person make such a fuss over this, and then immediately, advertise said product(s) multiple times? I have to ask if this is a little shameless advertising by the vendor of that product. After all, now that it has now gained a measure of notoriety, people will talk about it, leading to curiosity, leading to...perhaps more sales. If not, I hope the OP forgives my cynicism :)

Vilters, no judge anywhere in a free society is going claim that an anatomically complete sculpture/model/simulacra in of itself without an aesthetic, contextual framing is obscene. And please god, do yourself a favor and don't lecture anybody on ART. I take the opinions of knowledgeable critics of high art with a grain of salt, let alone the cultural/ artistic evaluations of a guy that makes dresses for Roxy. Lol

But wait there's more!!!. lol.   Genitals don't bother me because people have been doing nude art for thousands of years. Monkeys and ape scratch their junk.. Oh I guess we do the same. Art is like everything else.  It's not what is created but how it's portrayed and the context that it's used in.  A vagina that morphs is less an issue than some of the sexual life style clothing that is shown.   For people with kids (like me), I wish there was a way to filter the sexual related 3D models so I can allow my son to come to this page.   Nudity isn't my main concern, but the bondage wear and clothing that displays a sexual life style is a bigger problem for kids.
I personally think a morphing vagina is cool.  Genitals are part of the body and I know that some of the 3d models that we use have been used on sites like WebMD and other health related material. A 3D vagina would be better to show to a health class than one out of an adult magazine. Context is everything.   Just saying.

Those bippys were on my wishlist, I hope I can still buy them here since I don't use Genesis that much. (Still can't quite get it to play nice as consistently in Poser as V4 & M4.) There's a project I'm planning on that could use a good bippy ... but I don't think I'll be posting it here when it's done. Well, maybe the "artistic nude" version, which entails a pinup type pose, not explicit TOS-exploding stuff. I know very well where to go for those sort of renders. ;-)

I think that is part of the problem, some Poser users only look at an item from the viewpoint of how they would use it and cannot see that there are other uses such as health related ones as you suggest.  What is more, lots of users never put there images in galleries so what they produce are not really anyone business than theirs. My reading of the OP was that they were not so much surprised that items like this were available but that they were surprised and dismayed that they should appear in the Rendo Market Place.  My personal views differ but if the OP was shocked they should be able to voice their opinion without personal attacks, disagree on the subject matter by all means but we should respect other peoples feelings.

Nothing here at Rendo really surprises me these days although I do notice that the moderators were quick to make their presence known, what a shame that, once again, Rendo cannot claim to be consistent.

Much of this would be solved if Renderosity had a way for members to filter types of products that they want to see. Like a check box where people can decide if they want to see nude or sexual related products. In additions those products should only be accessible by those members who are of a certain age.  If those features were in place then the OP would have never known that the product exists and this post would have never existed.

Can't argue with that in principle, my only concern would be could Rendo make the filters work correctly, based on the expertise with the rest of the site I do admit to having doubts.

@Primorge
To me, Miu Nakamura has that rare but naturally sinister look to her, and I'm always drawn to that, especially with Japanese and Korean women.
If you saw the film 'Tomie Unlimited' you'd know what I mean - she was perfectly cast in that and no mistake - she looks proper evil!

BTW, I know Chiaki Kuriyama from the film EXTE, not bad, and a very cool film :-)

Don't know what happened there, maybe they don't allow linking.
Here's Miu Nakamura again, I even named my Canon 550D after her seeing as both are Japanese (I always name my cameras).

Anyway, we better get back on topic!

I'm sorry but for the person who posted this thread..  no one made you look at the sample images that clearly defined "Content Advisory.   And the actual Vendors Visual is so PG vanilla, yet you were curious enough to venture a peek at the actual sample images provided.

For years, textures supplied by vendors have always erred on the side of caution in regards to Female Genitalia, while depicting Male Genitalia in all it's glory, now yes it's in a flaccid state but it does not take any more imagination to fathom what it will look like fully erect..  Personally I thought the POV images provided were tastefully done without any real up close and personal spread legged samples or as some of the old gentlemen magazines used to refer to as showing pink.

I respect your opinion, but to give up buying things from Renderosity  for a single item, or two, seems unrealistic..  Now maybe if you had complained about the general shifting of vendors posting an over abundance of items for DAZ Studio, I might sympathize with you,  but not for offering a useful tool as 1 click gen morphs for V4.

I don't mean to single Giana out but I found it quite fitting that the content of of one of the first replies to this post perfectly illustrates something that has always bugged me: selective outrage... or at least, adverse judgement. Anything sexual is totally unacceptable and dirty, yet horror themes involving torture, murder, extreme fear, etc? totally fine...? Just because you're into a thing, don't sit in judgement of those who are into a different thing. Given the choice, I'd rather see a depiction of sex than of murder.

Site Admin Online Now!

I agree with the OP. Things seem to be getting extreme. I saw one of those morphs, and I thought I was on the wrong site. It seems like most of the ads have a butt or breasts center shot, even when they're selling cookware or hair (for the head). People keep saying sex sells. I looked at the top selling products from 2014 sale and only 10% were sex related. Makes me wonder how accurate that statement is.

People say 'well everyone is doing it'. At the risk of sounding like my mother (and probably yours) 'if everyone jumped off a cliff would you?' I'm just saying imitating a lemming is not a good excuse.

As for the thumbnail warnings, considering that is used for everything from slight butt cheeks (no big deal)  to full nudity focusing on vaginas, it's not a great warning.

And yeah, I'll admit it. I can be a bit of a prude sometimes. I realize not everyone is. But maybe a happy medium needs to be found. I shouldn't be forced to elsewhere because a few people think all sites should imitate 'rotica. (no we haven't gotten that bad yet. I wouldn't be here if we did.)

Just because Renderotica fills a void for those who create material for many alternate lifestyles, does not mean that everyone there are deviants. Nor to say that all the props and art in their galleries strictly adhere to certain genre's, and nothing else.

To say you have not gotten that bad yet is hypocrisy...   Tell me, do really think that all the textures and clothing for the DAZ children and teens are only used by good God fearing artist for G and PG images? Can you say with any certainty, that some of your adolescent textures and clothing props will not be used by pedophiles to satisfy their perverted desires and share said image with other who crave such trash?

If you look closely within Renderotica, you will notice no textures of  young children or teens offered within their storefront, their gallery forbids images of children even when they are clothed. Their TOS forbids images of any character that looks younger that 20 in their galleries, and simply trying to post an image that could be considered borderline, could cause an artist to be banned from the website.   Some may cringe at seeing BDSM props, Shibari Props and poses, Kinky collars, and ballet Toed leather heels being sold here.

I cringe when I see children and young teen textures and outfits, knowing that in the wrong hands, they will be used for even more perverted acts like incest and KP.

Think about that before you start pointing the finger at other sites..

I hesitate to take the plunge, but here goes.

People have genitals - is there really a difference between portraying some and not others? I have been surprised at the lack of realism in figures on which artists have obviously expended a lot of time and energy creating realistic skin, eyes, lips, nipples, etc., so why not include the full monty?

As for the reactions, I am old enough to have lived through the sixties and the sexual liberalisation permitted by such things as the pill. Have these changes really harmed us, or simply freed us? Perhaps it is both and neither. For much of my life homosexuality was an illegal act (although paradoxically lesbianism was not). Do most of us really want to turn back the clock? I doubt it. In those states where such attitudes are espoused many of the people live in fear and shame and I frankly doubt if the rest are very happy or relaxed.

Please don't misinterpret my views. I am not espousing or promoting particular orientations, but trying to get us all to accept that without the bits over which some people are getting hot under the collar, in the real world we would not exist. So for the sake of accuracy, why not have them in the 3D world? If they are offensive to some of us then artists can cover them up with clothing, although I don't understand why people should be offended by normal, natural, ubiquitous anatomy.

And not to put too fine a point on it, how come images of zombies with blood-covered faces and bodies (often eating violently-killed people), or shooters with weapons firing, or poses of corpses, etc. are more acceptable than images of what at least approximately half the population actually lives with?

As I have already stated, I have purchased from Renderotica although I have to admit the fact that the poses and most the comics portray the women as the victim does not lie easy with me.  The fact that I do buy from there suggests at least that I am not a prude but in almost 11 years of using Poser I have only ever produced one nude render and that was, in part at least, to compare bending of a weight mapped and non-weight mapped figure.  I do buy some of the items here that regarded by many as 'slut wear'  yet a look in my gallery will show these are often not used alone but with other items of clothes or a body suit to portray a sci-fi type outfit.   As you say in most cases it is the use of a particular item, or the intent, that is the important factor.  Then again, when you go to Renderotica you really are in no doubt of the nature of what is for sale and the OP was voicing surprise that items that would be seen in Renderotica being sold here.  Whether you are offended by such items is a very personal thing and I do think there should be some way that everyone could enjoy and use the marketplace easily without seeing content that upsets them.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Sigh......

Does no one remain who remembers the days when Rosity and Rotica were sister sites? When there was no issue because -you- were responsible for clicking that link?

Dark? For having a simple prop/character that turns a virtual Barbie doll into an approximation of a real woman? Hardly. That was actually a little touch of light there for the creative folks who do nudes, or use nudity for a purpose. Or for medical purposes. The real thing doesn't have teeth...and the virtual one only does if the maker models them in. When they start posting Dolcette kinds of images, get back to me on 'dark'.

Where it -has- become dark is in the mad dash to offend no one....and therefore please no one. In the purges like what happened to the faerie crowd. The large number of free thinkers and experts in this program who have up and left for pretty much the same reasons. There is where things have gotten much dimmer than they were.

Oh. And Rotica is a great source of gribble if you need it. No one noticed a sci fi piece I did used 3 dildo's, a couple of sets of manacles, and a shrew's fiddle for all the neat, geeky stuff attached to the walls in that render (and no, I lost it years ago). Creativity is a great thing....if you apply it.

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity

@All
I think there's a lot of extremely good points made in this thread, but (yup, there's always a but) ...

Have to say I think that in general, Renderosity do things right when it comes to what they do and don't allow to be sold or shown here.  Renderosity is a business, and as such, it needs to push what is acceptable and to allow it, and I think they do a damn good job of that if I'm totally honest about it.  I once said to the then bosses over at DAZ, that their TOS must be costing them a fortune by being so prudish.  They clearly aim to be a family friendly site, and there's nothing wrong with that, but from a business point of view, they're dismissing one very important factor, and it is this ...

It's adults that own credit cards, not children.

For that reason alone, Renderosity has it right, cause unlike DAZ, Renderosity cater for both adult and family-based stuff.  If Renderosity became a prude, I reckon their profits would drop like crazy, they'd probably even go out of business if they tried doing that.  We all know what sells here and we all know why, so to remove them just so that the kiddies can hang around in a family-friendly environment, would be a bad idea.  There's DAZ for those people, cause DAZ have that corner of the marked well sorted.

My opinions of the three big sites are as follows:

  • DAZ feels like a semi-pleasant place, but also feels way too overbearing due to protecting their family-friendly image.
  • Renderotica feels like a very forgiving place, a cool and seedy hangout that is adult in nature, but still feels professional and respectful.
  • Renderosity feels like a sensible balance of the two, so a thumbs-up to them for that.

I'm permanently banned from DAZ, and while I miss the place sometimes, it takes only a few minutes of catching-up on the forums over there to get bored.  Everyone's so nice over there (but often it makes them sound so false).  It's like they've had their personalities sucked from them.  Then I come back here and it's like a breath of fresh air to the point where I'm often glad I got banned from there, I could never behave like they behave.

Here, we have people saying what they think, speaking their mind, posting stuff that they know will push other people's buttons, and then enjoying the reaction to it when it does.  Basically, on here, we have people being human.  It's why so many people threaten to leave but never quite manage it (myself included).  At the end of the day, if someone said to me, right, one of those three forums have to go, never to be seen again, so which one gets the chop?

It would have to be DAZ that has to go, because I wouldn't want to be without the liberal adult nature that Renderotica is, and I wouldn't want to be without the respectful nature that Renderosity has, which basically amounts to them trusting adults to be adults, and having the sense not to cross the line.

@Hornet
I agree with some of what you said, but there's nothing wrong with women being seen as the victim, it's just a staple form of erotica, and it's something the women get as much enjoyment out of as the men do.  Such things range from simple and subconscious things, right up to blatant domination.  A typical example of simple and subconcious erotica is that render Clarkie posted recently, with Roxie stood by the water dispenser.  He might not realise it, but her posing with her arms behind her back is a form of erotica and 'self-victim'.  She's not helpless, but having her arms behind her back subconciously makes her more vulnerable and victim-like.  With her arm beside her, the effect would be lost.  You'll often see women posed with their arms above their head for the same reason (to symbolise helplessness), or girls with short skirts placed next to something that could potentially get up that skirt.

It's all erotica and victimisation.

At the other end of the scale, there's something like Vadim Glowna's take on "House of the Sleeping Beauties".  I specifically say Vadim Glowna's take, because there's a few of these types of film out there, but this version especially feels like it's done right.  A film like this turns the term "victim" on it's head, because the women willingly accept pament to be given an injection that puts them into a deep sleep while they stay at a fancy establishment where wealthy men pay to share a bed with these "Sleeping Beauties".  There are rules though, you can only touch, pose, and kiss those helpless women, penetration is forbidden.

Who is the "victim" (if there even is one at all)?

  • The women who willingly offer themselves into this service for large amounts of money?
  • The wealthy men who are being charged epic amounts so they can look at a naked sleeping women all night long, in any pose they wish?
  • Is it worth it for the women, even though this is a professionally run, protected environment?
  • is it worth it for the men who get to play all night long with naked, sleeping beauties?

There's are a few of these types of movies out there, and I suppose the ones I've seen so far, are all good really.  But if you ever fancy questioning yourself about who are the victims, then this version, by Vadim Glowna, will really make you think.  In fact if you saw it you'd probably thank me profusely for pointing out such a well directed and beautifully shot film, one that really leaves you thinking.  Shibari, despite it's roots, is essentially just a different form of helplessness, it's a form of domination erotica, and there's nothing wrong with that when it's willing (there is no real victim).

Anyway, here's the trailer for "House of the Sleeping Beauties" (it's a German film, but the DVD has English subtitles which are essential for this film):

I don't get this: Every item here has to be nudity tagged, if there is nudity. No nudity thumbnails either. So what is the problem? You don't want to see it, then listen to the warning. You want to keep your kids away from that, then keep your kids away. (edit).

And trust me, nobody gets mentaly damaged from looking at genitals, kids won't either. Rendo doesn't have any porn stuff here, so everything is safe. So where is the point?

BTW, is thread opener still with us? (edit). Unsubscribing now.

I must have missed that mad dash not to offend unless you are referring to where other users are called idiots, stupid and so on.  You can have a debate and have strong views but some post with the very point of 'pushing other peoples buttons' and then sit back and watch the fun.  It seems to fill a hole in their life when the get bored and that is not an opinion it has been said more than once in the Poser forum. Having strong views on something, insisting it is the only valid view and then getting personal with those that have a different views is not adult or clever.

Well they say an internet troll is one who has found a means to express their sadistic tendencies in a basically anonymous environment. I think it's funny when lurkers start coming out of the wood work to throw stones, and then retreat, at whoever is getting the RPF gangbang at the moment. Like pilot fish.
