Yeah, pretty cool. It'll also be bundled with Luxrender 1.5(?) (if you were wondering how that increase in render speed was achieved by an interface). What's even better is that is also headed for Carrara, so big outdoor environments in Carrara using Poser and DS content with the same render engine, so in theory you won't know which platform you produced the image in. . I'm cautiously optimistic...
Morkonan, yes, it's an order of magnitude faster. Actually, we can get even faster but that is for another demo :)
About the other post, yes, Lux 1.5 is embedded and shipped with Reality 4.1. Reality interfaces with OpenCL and automatically determines the right configuration and parameters for your system. It's going to be very, very easy to use.

Paolo, I'm considering a reformat soon and I'm very tempted to go for this once I get the new installation up and running.
What you said about it auto-configuring sounds great, but can you advise on whether or not I'd be better off leaving the SLI connector in place?
My system has two old GTX460 cards, and there's a little bridge connection (a physical one) that can be used or not. How would Reality prefer the system do you think, with or without the SLI connector in place? I should point out that I don't use the system for games, so that's not important, but if it makes a difference to Reality and rendering performance, I'm quite happy to leave it off because I read somewhere that having it on can actually impair performance with some things.
If you know which way Reality would prefer it, to get better performance, I could set it up as such before I started a new installation.

I don't think that there is any difference in how Reality would work with that. The cards are probably too old to be used for OpenCL acceleration. Keep in mind that what I showed in the video used only the CPU, there was no involvement of the GPU. This doesn't mean that the GPU will not be usable, it's just that it's not a requirement. The 10x acceleration was done in the CPU.

OpenCL is a framework that has been invented by Apple to make it possible for programmers to use all the CPU and GPU cores to accelerate program by using parallel processing. It has nothing to do with AMD and CUDA.
OpenCL is an open standard that is now managed by the Khronos Group, the same consortium of companies, including Apple, Microsoft, AMD, nVidia, Samsung and others, that manages OpenGL. If your GTX460 supports OCL 1.1 then that's great. How much RAM do those cards have?

One thing that I forgot to mention is that OpenCL is fully supported by AMD, nVidia, Intel, Samsung and many other companies.

Actually Apple has a history of using standard protocols and technologies. You might have also heard that they are going yo open source the Swift language, which is one of the most amazing languages we have today. Swift is a huge step forward in application development and it will be available soon on Linux as well.

About the OpenCL can you do test with OpenCL(CPU with GPU) and post the results ? And in OpenCL will be Reality/Luxrender supporting too SSS and other features of Poser/DS? And can you try render only with like most of us do have 4core/8 threads CPU(I've 6core/12 threads) and what time will be ?

At this time I'm working on finishing some other issues and doing some testing of the GPU features. I will post more results as soon as I can but I am focusing on getting the program stable and to release it as quickly as possible.

Sounds cool, but they're all trying to get in on Linux now, even Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 (for free) for the new quad-core Raspberry Pi,
no doubt hoping they can eat their way into Linux territory. Unfortunately for them, I won't be installing Windows on mine, nor will anyone who is wise :-D
Anyway, thanks for your help with this, it does look cool and I look forward to playing with it soon (and I love the way Lux handles light calculations)!
This first thing I'll be doing is trying to get it to do Anamorphic (stretched) bokeh. I read it can be done with Lux, so I'm hoping I can get it to do that somehow through Reality as well, probably by sticking a 'cutout filter' in front of the camera.

Does this mean the Mac problems are resolved?
The Mac issues are still there. The acceleration that I showed is in the CPU, it does not depend on OpenCL and so it works fine with both Mac OS and Windows. OpenCL is available on Mac OS but the drivers are still broken and so GPU rendering will not work except for the simplest of scenes. That does not preclude Mac users from using the new acceleration because it's all in the CPU. With Reality 4.1 you will have three ways of rendering:

Thanks for the heads-up, GIMP is my 2D editor of choice and I didn't even know about that plugin. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work because when a scene is Anamorphic, it's the whole scene, not just the enlarged glowing parts of the bokeh, it's absolutely everything that is out of focus that gets a stretched defocus, and the more out of focus something is, the more stretched it looks - that's probably one of the reasons it looks so awesome, because things in the background look 'grander' than they actually are.
Anyway, I could go on non-stop about Anamorphic but this is Paolo's thread and I don't want to hijack it so ...
